My Walden reefer ratchet also wishes it had a plug.
DOH! That's it. Found it in a 50's cat. Goes to the RF49 rat. Thanks, 3. What a weird mix. There were two other Bonney pcs in the case, but they were part of their standard midget set: a V17 sliding tee and a V18 extension.I think the drive plug is to a Bonney refrigeration ratchet.
Slew, if you're Walden reefer rat is not brand conscious, I'll send you this one. I don't collect refrigeration tools. My Walden reefer ratchet also wishes it had a plug.
)Thanks. Funny thing is I was a little late to my flea stop #1, and the first thing I see when I pull in is a crowd of scroungers picking through a bunch of old garage stuff at one of the house close-out guy's spots. My dismay quickly turned into glee when I spotted this box. I couldn't believe someone didn't grab it just for the near-complete chrome SK set, which included deeps (see Pic 1). It was a little covered up when I got to it, so maybe it was overlooked, or nobody wanted to touch it because the box was so roached (see Pics 2 & 3, before a little clean-up)! Either way, I got lucky. I only wanted it for the Williams NM-110 Driver-Extension I could see by its knurled handle poking itself out of the SK glare! Turns out that it also contained a few Williams ALLOY V Superrenches and a Bonney V-17 sliding tee and V-18 extension (see pic 4).Nice pickup Lugz!
Your rat is a Bonney, right?
As long as I have your attention, I'm also wondering if anyone recognizes the box, because I don't. It's not SK or Bonney. Is it a Williams? It looks to have been red originally. It's a mess. Someone lined it with something, possibly tape, that is deteriorating, and that's a strip of tape on top, too. It's roached. But if it's Williams I may try to save it even though there's no decal.
If you mean the Bonney box, thanks, Otg. I agree. I'm going to remove the stubborn remains of whatever it was a former owner tried to line it with, though. And the strip of desiccated tape on top. I have never seen a box like this before. The design is well-conceived the way the overhang on the closed lid completes the rectangle on the two ends formed by the spot-welded supports on the edges and corners on the bottom.Has a nice patina!
It is. It's a Gray branded version of the Bonney 4098. (They were a subsidiary for awhile, in case you didn't know that...) Sweet ratchet. What's the ratchet with the composite handle!?The GRAY I found in my buried in dirt floor of shed when I bought my house 20 years ago...[ ]...They said it was a '40's vintage
The older ratchets in my garage. The GRAY I found in my buried in dirt floor of shed when I bought my house 20 years ago. It cleaned up well and received new innards. Local store NOVO PRO store got me the kit. They said it was a '40's vintage
Send it back to its Bonney brothers, I don't think anything will make the waterwheel kerchunker in the Walden nice enough I'd use it over my Plomb 1/4s.Unfortunately, I didn't know you needed one, and I just offered it to Ole Slewfoot, who expressed a need for his Walden. Your rat is a Bonney, right? He hasn't said, "Yes!" yet. So you may be in luck. (In hindsight, I should've known that any drive plug, regardless of the size, would be in high demand!)

I would suspect 1935 on that 71-N, Unaiu.

Here are a couple of ratchets I picked up at a swap meet last weekend.
Hornet 83900 3/8" drive.
Dayton "CHGO USA" 3/8" drive (no other markings found)

Welcome to GJ, Gerry, and thanks for posting those!
I picked up this JCPenney flex head tune-up ratchet (made by S-K) for a buck at a swap meet a couple months ago. It had a broken pall so I looked for a rebuild kit on eBay a couple weeks ago and found this: an S-K 45171-2 repair kit with thumb wheel!
I had no idea S-K had a thumb wheel option and I have to say I love it!
Does anyone else here have one?
