I found a camshaft in the local GM scrap bin, I think it's from some sort of LS. It's almost completely hollow, and I'm considering building a lamp out of it. Any other ideas?

The only thing I can think of (besides tables and lamps) would be to have a 12 hour clock motor turn it so the camshaft raised and lowered numbers to be some sort of clock...or something of that nature that actually used the cam lobes to actuate something. Whatever it would be, would probably need some sort of "magnifier" so that a half an inch of cam lift became 8 inches of lift or more.....so yeah...a lamp sounds good. :ROFLMAO:

I reckon this is repurposing. I picked up this metal cabinet from an online surplus auction, never seeing the inside. When I picked it up I found out it is a Do-All bandsaw cabinet. Cool, but not usable in the shop. So, cleaned it up, painted it a whimsical teal, and put it in the mudroom. Mail slots for the kids who have moved out but still get mail at the house, boot storage for the daycare kids my wife takes care of, umbrellas, dog stuff, and more.

I was driving in the general direction of home, when I saw something that caught my interest. It was one of those sit-on garden carts. It was on Curb-Mart and free. I took it home and repurposed it into a gas welding cart.
When I think of it, repurposing things appear to be my "High water mark."

Strongly recommend red LED’s, not just for vibration survival, but the Folgers can is a thermoplastic & white light through red plastic will be pink.

Yellow / amber is correct for the front.

But of course, around here, you'd never get stopped for that unless the police were looking for reasons to pull you over. Honestly, I don't think they even care if your trailer lights work at all, judging by what I see on the road.

I am aware that other states are more strict, require inspections, etc.

And, as a matter of pride and safety, I prefer to have my lights to be correct and functioning.

How is your creativity and innovation? I've got the speed bag frame below (no bag and missing the handle) that I picked up from a gym swapping out equipment. I am not interested in putting on the bag, but I'm wondering what things it could be used for. The rebound disc slides up and down on the rails, using the screw in the middle.

Let's hear whatcha got, that is at least somewhat serious.

Building a raceway for my dust collection hoses. Didn’t have any 10’ plus pieces of 2x4s, so went checking the tickle trunk. Found the ceiling mounts that were from a vertical blinds tucked away. Had some 12” wide pieces of plywood already cut from another project. This was great as I didn‘t lose any width and won‘t sag in the future.
Grandson thinks it is a great raceway for his monster truck trials. IMG_0808.jpeg

Thanks alot:mad:, now I'll never get rid of stuff "just in case". Sometimes I think this thread will be my downfall to de-cluttering.
"Tickle Trunk"?...it must be huge.

Whatcha gonna do with that Styrofoam packing material, could be useful for something, someday. :ROFLMAO:

Regardless, well done.

Your grandson is correct about it being a great raceway for his monster trucks. As for whether it becomes a great raceway for your dust collection hoses..well, we'll be the judge of that when you give us all the photos and installation descriptions we now expect from you since you have our attention.;)

I do have a problem when it comes to chucking stuff. When I do have a project like this one, I come up with a rudimentary idea. Then I take a stroll through what I have squirrelled away. Hate to say it but most times I have something that will work. I’m kind of scared now as my garage at lake is ready for interior work, electrical, insulating and vapour barrier. Once completed I’ll have more room for treasures. Only problem it is 2 hours away. So I have to stock it with tools and other necessities. Oh ya and a beer fridge.
The styrofoam needs to be cut up for another project. The pieces you see are smaller but hopefully can be used. Only problem is I need to make a cutter. First 2 prototypes didn’t work to well. So went to YouTube for info. Third try should be a winner.
Okay once the raceway is up I’ll come back and you can give it a 👍 or 👎

Good monster truck raceway.

Tickle Trunk. Had to google that one. English minor from south Alabama it wasn’t in my vocabulary.

I too keep stuff just in case. The biggest argument my brother and I had was after dads death while cleaning out dads shop. It’s still ongoing three years later but I digress. My father could and did build anything. He viewed broken or discarded it’s as materials inventory. My brother viewed it as junk. Had to get my brother to quit throwing stuff away simply because he didn’t know what it was.

The Mrs. and I were out and stopped for lunch the other day. Had to park behind the place. I noticed they had some scrap resturaunt equipment back there so when we left I went for a look see.
This stainless steel shelf was hanging onto a busted up door of whatever it had been by one screw.
Of course I grabbed it.
I got The Look of course as I put it on the floor behind the driver's seat.
Yesterday I put a couple of screws in the back of this tool cabinet and mounted it for oil cans. It is right in the corner of my shop, just above the lathe and only a couple of steps away from the mill, bandsaw and drill press so very handy location.

Wow, you easily get your shorts in a wad don't you?

You lost me when you assumed that everyone knows what the hell a 18165 is along with the mention of battery protected battery.

If you can't handle that perhaps you should stop posting. It's not a ****, don't take it so hard.
Yeah, Maybe I should stop posting.

Here is what I did with a camshaft for a lamp.
