I rescued this stump from my firewood pile to use in metal shaping.

Old leather belt screwed to the stump gives me a place to hang my hammers.

What are the dimensions on that Drew, it looks real handy and great to look at too!

I'll have to check it. I just picked the biggest chunk in the pile and stripped the bark and formed the bowl shape in the middle. The stump is mounted on a harbor freight moving dolly. When I'm not beating a piece of metal into submission I throw my leather beater bag on it and use it for a stool.

I would suggest if you want to make one, make sure you use a hard dense wood.

I don't know it this counts 'cause I didn't make it but I did repurpose it.
I thought my nice gerstner would look bad on a metal base, so the search was on for a nice secretary desk. all were to tall or to narrow or to expencive or had a hutch attached. took me a month to find this one. the hardest part was finding one that the top was a foot deep. it works for me. its functional and I think it looks pretty classy.

Heres some pallet racking shelfs I got for free. I routered two slots on some 4x4 posts, and turned it to a heavy duty trellis

Do you mind sharing a bit about how you finished the trunk? It looks awesome.

I kept it soaked in tung oil for couple days in hopes that it wouldn't split at the end grain. I've had it inside my shop for the last 2 years and so far it's ok. I give it a "once over" every now and then with the oil.

Old popup camper into utility trailer. Works really well for light bulky stuff that needs side support. Appliances, mulch, furniture, ect. There is a fold down ramp in the back that you can't see in the pic.

Here's another one. Old sign post, office chair, hub, rim. Too comfortable actually.

This started off as a filthy old paraffin stove (which is very expensive as a fuel here now!). and was converted to a lovely table lamp.

Here's my latest:

I had a customer come in that had gone offroading with his 2009 Toyota Tacoma and hit a large hole....Did a lot of damage, including break his aftermarket aluminum rim completely in half. Now, I wouldn't normally do this, but the guy was just plain awesome, and was definitely a gearhead. And when I say awesome, you know those stand-out types when you meet them....Well, he called me halfway through his truck repairs and asked if we still had the half of his rim that was still attached to his old suspension....I told him we didn't, and he seemed a little bummed. Well....In fact I DID still have his rim, and because he was such an awesome guy, I gave him this as a "Thank You" for bringing his truck for us to repair:

Unfortunately this is the only pic I have, before I actually finished it. It also has a "seconds" hand not shown.
I also removed the hands, painted them white, and repainted them with a couple of coats of paint....to make them glow in the dark.
This is what happens at our place when you are a standout awesome customer (let that be a lesson to you all!)

I've posted this before in an auto part repurpose thread but I guess it's fitting here too. 63' Impala rear end with a 79' Dodge bench seat, it's now my garage sofa. Used 4x4's (this was before I got my welder) and casters to move it around.

I hope he didn't want the rim for a warranty attempt.

Snagged a bunch of storage bins from ACE Hardware a while back. I bolted four together, built a base and put on some casters. Works pretty well as a bottom box.

Two metal cabinets from an auction. A wood bench top from another auction - which is 5/4" thick. 10 metal drawers from a destroyed Durham cabinet.
Screwed down 4 steel receiver type square tubing.

The drawers hold a lot of tools that I use at the work bench.

there are a lot of nooks where I can put my manual scrapers, brushes, and hammers (where the drawers don't fit.

Added some round stock from some very old granite comparators, I pull these out to hold my 48" surface plate when I'm using it for bluing (scraping).

And when the bench is loaded with ****, I can pull out a couple of drawers to hold more things.

I made the light frame (for the new T5 lights) from scrap metal and a re-purposed triangle of iron from somewhere.

Here's my contribution.

Took half of an old tool pouch, threadded an old ratchet, web strap thru it and cinched it to the top of my gas bottle. Keeps all that little **** that you need to do any fabbing. Paint pens, contact tips, welding plyers, extra grinder wheel bushings, Tape measure, Tri-square, etc.

I don't have any close ups, I'm at work now and this will have to do.

Works great.

I completely forgot about the magnet holders for the "swatter". Yeah, they are for "tuning up" stubborn iron.

That one on the right is one of HF's finest. No kidding, that one is called a drillers hammer and it is one of the best hammers I have ever used. That thing has distroyed several cold rolled chisels over the last 20 years. There is absolutly distortion on the face that hammer. If it gets lost I'm getting another ASAP.

Took an old curved leg Craftsman table saw stand and a Champion Spark Plugs logo creeper and turned it into a end table for the living room. The creeper was the perfect size, trimmed about 1/4" off of the middle three cross slats that go underneath and it rested in there perfect.

This is different from the stuff in this thread because I'm repurposing something brand new, but it is what it is.

I wander into a dollar store once in a while. Today I noticed these things and had an idea...

2dqlp29.jpg

$1 cheapo steel wire organizer.

2qbd6bm.jpg

Freshly cut up.

21logle.jpg

Holding some of the stuff from my pliers drawer. Going to go back and buy a few more.

I was at a job site and they had some desks with broken metal legs they were throwing out. I took them home and removed the legs and mounted them under my work bench. the tops slide out as a work space and the drawer opens for small item storage..

PS don't mind the mess.. I'll get to it eventually.. LOL
