This is going to be a awesome repurpose of items or a wtf was I thinking. I wanna build a vise but not just a reg vise but a repurpose vise. A all in one vise which is also a press.
Exhibit 1 uploadfromtaptalk1391740737146.jpg
Good vise base turns and jaws turn bad jaws don't open far
Exhibit 2 uploadfromtaptalk1391740821129.jpg
Good big vise wide jaws opens far.
Both of these are cheap chinese vise.
Exhibit 3 some parts and pieces to start vise idea. uploadfromtaptalk1391740945847.jpg
I like to combine vise 1 and vise 2 and make it super strong. This is basic idea. This kinda idea so far.uploadfromtaptalk1391741974195.jpguploadfromtaptalk1391741989062.jpg

snow day at work, i work for the phone company so im always looking around while im driving and every once in a while i run across some things people let me buy or look around....little bored so i figured i would post a few of my quick projects. not exactly garage related but repurposed

family had a barn torn down and after asking they said i could dig through and take whatever i wanted or could use

this is the stack i came out with i thought i could use

ruffed together

put together and moved upstairs.. this thing is heavy!

second was an old pulley that i had found on craigslist.

start

hanger i made out of some scrap flat and round bar

refinished and hung on the wall

picture frames made out of left over old tongue and groove flooring and glass from an old window i had replaced.

sorry for the long post its going to be a long day at work :willy_nil

Really nice work. Especially like the bed! Only concern would be how many splinters the wife would get!

i like the gaps, no matter what you do i would consider getting a glass(best) or lexan(better) or plexi(ehh..ok but will scratch easily) top

Thanks majority vote gets it... i will go with gaps. Also i am going to make a top for it with glass and maybe a metal support or stand of some sort to hold the glass. Thanks!

Wow that would have been worth a lot more if you left it as original as possible. Maybe some used two byes for the top.

Hey twenty8tudor, I like that! I have one as well as long as an extra set of wheels. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3301881&highlight=bruner+ivory#post3301881

Is that oak? I am thinking about using a longer axle shaft so the wheels sit outside for better looks.

And I agree, the gaps look better!

yes its red oak that im using on this one. The wheels outside would be a different look havent seen any like that before... sounds interesting for sure!

I am all about trying to keep things original but this was way to far gone... the picture makes it look good. all the side boards were broken in two except for 1 end board. and if you would set a roll of quarters on the top boards it would fall through..and only about 4 of them went all the way across.. I figured i would use new wood for the entire thing to make it match a tv stand/trolly project that i have in my head that i am starting on before long using an old hay trolly/hoist.

this is another that i picked up a while back...scored this one for FREE :rocker: the wood is in way better shape so i left it be just cleaned up the wheels so i could put it in the house. only downfall of this one is its way bigger then the other one.

lettering i did in a lacquer spray paint so i could get it off there easy if need be. lettered it after an old feed mill in my local little town that was torn down a LONG time ago

Might be worth more to who knows, but useless at the same time.

But then again we do not know if he has the original wood. If he does that would be known as having it both ways.

I'll steal this pic.

I seen a guy put some lawnmower tires on the back of a cart, and welded a hitch on the front, and made a little lawn mower trailer. I thought the idea was great for hauling yard tools/ project stuff around the yard.

That gives me a good idea to make up something for the garden. I have a spare set of big lawn mower wheels laying around.

finished the cart up last night for the most part... still need to work up an idea for a top for it but its good enough to go into the upstairs now.

start

never tried this but used a propane torch and scorched the wood first to darken the grain of it....then after applying the stain i set the stain on fire and let it burn off and wipe smooth. gave it a neat color i thought.

end

Its all I do. The cart was a hurried deal that worked well it got used a long time, then scrapped/converted to utility replaced with something else I found I liked better.

The SP cart was originally for the plasma which was a perfect fit. I since got rid of 2 carts in the lineup. saved a lot of congestion.

Turned an old AMC Hornet grille that was damaged from an overheat into a light fixture for my shop using an $11 motion sensor light.

Too big, too many slots and holes, too heavy. No edges to clamp to.

I agree, but you really wouldn't have to worry too much about clamping considering the gapping slots throughout the goliath piece of steel. IT'S WAY TOO HEAVY unless you have the equipment to move it around!!!

It would be great perfect if you wanted to get into the wagon wheel business. You couldn't ask for a better jig;).

Here's a few things. Some small pallet planters and another arrow. Arrow was made from some embossed aluminum that I removed from the skirt of my mother in laws mobile home when I rebuilt her deck. Then of course there's Igor the serpent...

So we did a major renovation of our kitchen and this means good things for anyone with a garage! Wife says she wants new cabinets, I say no problem I agree! We in fact really needed new ones, the cabinets are solid wood but very old and had at least 4 coats of paint, the last a horrible shade of green. So I gutted the kitchen and moved the cabinets to my garage, reconfigured them, added a bar to the lowers, used the uppers for storage over my work bench and after slapping a coat of blue paint of them, (if you look at my build thread, is an addiction...) I now have tons of storage, and a place to hang out with friends. Not to mention my wife got her beautiful new cedar country kitchen!

Nothing too major , but it makes drilling a perpendicular hole to a hidden tang knife through irregular shaped handle material.
Its actually a clamp for attaching medical equipment to a bed.

I picked up this old Craftsman sander and case for 2 bucks.

The case is now a wall cabinet in the shop.
My wife has been asking for a space to keep her stuff for the dog.
brushes, clippers, medicine etc

No matter where she put it, it always seemed in the way.

Re-purposed this Ford valve cover and an unused power strip into man cave art!
Adding the aluminum backing plate first thing in the morning and up for sale she goes.
