Thanks guys, the elevator is actually really small, tower is about 9’ wide and over 1500 feet of elevator. Usually when they get to 1200 or more an elevator is fairly common. This particular tower used to be the worlds tallest structure, it was built in the 50s.

That tower could move a few feet off center, but it is not very perceptible, smaller towers tend to move a lot more and it is noticeable. When building towers, things get really wiggly.

Glad to hear your surgery went well. But 1500 feet up on a tower!!!!:shocking:

My nads are tingling just thinking about it. I get nervous at any height so your profession is one of those things I'm glad there are people like you that can do it. If left to me that light bulb would never get changed.

Sorry to hear about your dad and hope he can find the way to slow down a bit and let you take the lead.

I will have to say, I am less than optimistic about the surgery results, my smaller eyebrow is pointing upwards and my eyelid is sliced down the middle.

Yucky. [emoji20]

The light bulb stuff reminds me about Pensacola Lighthouse. It's right alongside the Pensacola Naval Air Station, home of the Blue Angels. Used to be that the Angels would buzz the lighthouse before landing. Creating a shockwave that blew the light bulb. After a while the CG tired of changing the bulb started billing the Navy for the cost, which is significant, around $2500 each time. This only works most of the time. Still when they return to home base after a tour, in spite of warnings by hierarchy, there goes another couple of grand.

Thanks 1/2 cup, they said it had some deep roots and would have gone into my eye most likely. Glad I got it done.

I think I’m going to have to come up with a better story than “I had some cancer removed” when people ask me what happened. Maybe something like “polar bears look cute until you get too close”.

Soooo... now you have a big L on your forehead … uhm... won't say what that means.

Glad you got it early. I have a friend with a glass eye... and it is never aimed correctly.

We used Lobotomy Surgery with my wife. She held her tongue out a bit and I commented on the only issue since … has been the drooling at night... during the day it mostly dries before it drips. Hers was more on the temple...

Hey... just realized... it will raise that eyebrow... so you will look confused at times...

I know I'm making fun of you but hey... I am trying to harden you to what is to come from the people nearest you.

I'd just say "You should see the bear!" Seriously though, my wife has had two melanomas removed and one left a 6-inch scar on her chest. She claims it's a botched **** lift.

Ouch. That should heal up pretty good. Just tell people you're Harry Potter.

Get some vitamin E or whatever other scar softener stuff they sell for it to help it go away.

I don’t climb as much as I used to, but I have had to change the light bulbs on a 1600 foot tower in the dark several times. Very awesome experience when you are up that high to watch the sunrise.

Here we are at 1500 feet, the TV antenna (stick) is another 100 plus feet tall, the light is on top of that.

Here is a TV antenna from another tower.

OHHHH HELL NO.... my *** is puckering just looking at picture. I would have 2 or 3 harnesses on tied off in multiple places.

I’m glad surgery went ok. Are they gonna do and reconstructIon or just let it heal and see where it goes?

I had some cancer in corner on my eye and part of the bridge of my nose. I had to have a eye surgeon do surgery because it was near eye muscles and nerves. My right eye lid doesn’t open fully at times.
It’s been few years since surgery all is good and have no issues from the surgery except eye lid droops alittle.

I need to get a lease signed tomorrow, so I have to leave the house, hopefully won’t scare anybody too badly. The only thing that really hurts is when I sneeze, it is so painful. We also have a crane coming Friday and Saturday, so I will have to be a bit active, may even need to climb on Saturday. The hard hat will be the hardest part, it will be on part of the wound.

The hard hat I have has a chin strap, so it can’t fall off, not sure, but I think that may end up being the worst part. I will be at the site for a bit today, so I will have a test fit.

The bag balm should do that, I was told I either had to keep vaseline on it, bag balm was my choice and they said OK. Luckily, the temps should be pretty low compared to what we have had.

Driving wasn’t too bad, once I got my sunglasses it helped make things better, apparently I was squinting a bit. Had to swap trucks, load up a few things, getting lunch with the GF, then headed to the tower site to see what has been accomplished in my absence. Then we have to sign a lease for another site and I will go home after that.

Strouty, haven’t stopped by in a while. Good to hear the procedure came out ok, and ggod luck with your Dad’s health issues. Been there, done that. Always a difficult path to negotiate, good luck with that. I saw the pic of your new RC chassis, have you done anything with that yet?

And lastly... please don’t post any more tower height pics. I can’t scroll past them fast enough to keep from getting a little woozy. Just don’t.

Haven’t touched the RC stuff yet, but will be in the shop a bit more in the next few months. This winter will be a fun one, at least inside the shop. No promises on the tower pics, :)

I should share my one and only RC car pictures with you some day. Currently I have to charge the batteries with a hack as my fancy charger got a bit messed up somewhere along the way... but everything works well enough to function.

Be safe today Stro... stay near earth...

Your picture of the tower elevator reminds me of back when I worked at company that installed fuel tanks for generators.

I was doing a site visit at a tower site for a new tank install. The tower operator told me they'd be up on the tower and to hang around.

I was pulling up to the tower, I could see the elevator coming dowm, perfect timing I was thinking.

I was walking up to meet the guy when 2 guys were in a full sprint towards me yelling something I couldn't understand, didn't matter I turned and ran back to truck until I could figuire out what was happening.

There was a huge wasp nest on the bottom of the elevator and although the wasp didn't really do much on the way and down, they took off once the platform was back on the ground. These guys were lucky to just barley be able to get away.

I still think about this every time I drive past and the what ifs if the wasp decided to attack way up where they were.

I was watching a guy paint the side of a water tower from a bucket truck, all at once he was spraying paint every where, he had found a bee's nest and disturbed it and they were attacking him, They just couldn't fly real good with the paint job. They were falling like a cloud of fog.
