Strouty, was Christmas/Santa good to you? Did you get a matched pair of tilt cylinders for one of your fork lifts in need? Burb parts? Come on we are dying with suspence here! All kidding aside, we all genuinely hope it was "epic" good! Harry

Edit: we will be "demanding" a full recap though, you do know what we are like. 😊

I don’t have too many enabler Santas, so other than gift cards that potentially could buy those types of things, I got normal stuff. My shoulder/neck wasn’t and still isn’t great, I have been slow to start today and Christmas was a do nothing day. I hope everyone had a decent day as well.

I am glad you had a do nothing day, you deserved it, You put in a lot of hours during the week and deserve a break.
You are to young to be burning the candle at both ends, it will catch up with you. Slow down a little, the work will be there,
Get a younger helper to help and mentor. You have a lot of knowledge to pass on and it will pay dividends in the future.

Having forced time off is not fun, my neck hurt bad enough I didn’t get to do much of anything. It is feeling better tonight, tomorrow I have to pick up the crates of 24 volt lights, so no real choice. Today was a bit of paperwork, but honestly I haven’t gotten much done in the last three days and that stresses me out more than getting some time off recuperates me. Always a catch 22, even when I plan time off, it inevitably turns into a mess that makes me think I shouldn’t have taken the time off.

Yeah, I get it with pain.... I've been fighting a back ache for two weeks. It's been finally getting better, but its been a slog. ***** when there are things a guy wants to work on..

A couple of things helped some for me: heating pad, some ice packs and a TENS unit. The electrodes on the back and some heat seemed to help the muscle spasms settle down. It's still not 100, but at least I'm able to move..

I've thought about the inversion table that 86 has talked about, but so far have not bought one.

I try to stretch the back out each night, but I must have missed a night or two and the stress set in and jacked it up. I can't even claim to have lifted anything heavy, but in years past I had...

Regardless, hopefully the pain can subside so you can get back to moving...

The wiring harnesses are specifically made to fit an MRAP, but they have a lot of extra wire that is plenty long enough to make work in other applications as well, if I use some junction boxes I could cut apart some of the harnesses and use them for just about any scenario. I haven’t measured all the harnesses yet, but the side light harness has about 20’ of main cable, then 9’ in between each molded splice for the next light. Everything is made up very well, I do wish there were more rocker switches, but no big deal.

Strouty two things.

Are those lights mil-spec? They look really nice and a good addition to whatever you put them on.

I’m really needing a forklift fix about now. Anything happening with the all terrain USMC units?

Thanks.

They are all military spec made by Grote, they are much nicer than the **** you get on Amazon or eBay. I think there is almost as much value in the harnesses as the lights, not even sure how to break down the cost, it was a bit under $3k for all four boxes delivered, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the harnesses, I was worried they would be way too specific to an MRAP, looks like they made them so they could be used in other scenarios as well. I plan on adding my own fuse panel with relays and switched for the lights, probably take me a year to get them all functional. As for the USMC forklifts, one is pretty much fully functional, the other needs some things before it can really be used. I think they are both here to stay and I will be selling some of the other forklifts.

25000 bulbs!

I have 6 pieces of equipment (all 24 volt) that need lights, then I will have to decide if I want to use a converter on some of the 12 volt equipment. Trying to find a reasonably priced but dependable unit, looks like they are either $10 or $400 for some thing that can handle a decent amount of amps. The lights only draw 1.4 amps each, so you could put plenty on a 20 amp setup. I think if I open all the crates I can get everything into two crates. That will cut down on storage, I wanted to start with one of the new military forklift, the wiring they have is a bit of a nightmare because of the way they switch the lights on.

My neck was feeling pretty good until I had to do some paperwork, DOT ****, they want you to use all these portals, except them seem to change them on a whim, so now they want me to link two different ones together. No problem, except they tell me my username doesn't exist, well it did the last time I logged in. Waiting for a customer service ticket so I can figure things out. We only login once a year to do the required steps to keep us in their good graces. It is totally ridiculous, we do not even drive 2,500 miles in a busy year, yet they treat us like we have twenty trucks and drivers that drive hundreds of thousands of miles. The last form I filled out told me to round to the nearest 10k miles, so am I supposed to put zero?? It looks like they are trying to tie everything together with our "login.gov" account, don't get me started with that. Then when I do paperwork for the feds, the state doesn't actually get a copy and they ***** and make me send them a copy too, I know everything is public record because I get hounded by DOT scam artists all the time, they try to get people to pay them to fill out the free forms. They charge $400 for one form that takes 30 seconds to update online. The government has to make it difficult so they can justify that budget. /Rant.

Just getting out of the office now, at least it is drizzling out and I don’t really want to be outside. Now I have to go pick up some supplies and go to the Salvage Garage to condense the lights.

These forklift extensions arrived yesterday, they are 6.5” wide and 96” long, not sure how they can sell and deliver them to me for $175 (there was a $20 coupon, so $195 w/o it).

I just had an argument with my Dad about one of the tower sites that he wants to sell, there is a foundation that was never finished by "us", a couple years ago it came up in a structural inspection and Dad "fixed" it. He essentially made it look right, but did not do anything to it structurally. He is now furious that I want to "spend his money" on soils tests so an engineer can design a new foundation around the existing one, basically use what was there as an extra layer of safety. This has been discussed with my Dad, the engineer, and a few other people, now all os a sudden Dad is saying stop everything and he will fix it. I keep trying to explain it is a liability issue for us and he keeps saying there is no issue, to me this would clearly be negligence if something were to happen to the tower in the future, especially if we sell it as is and don't disclose the issue. I am really not sure what he is thinking, but he says we will just fix it in house and it will all be fine. I told him I won't be involved if that is the case, he said "no problem, you aren't needed anyways". Got to love family. :(

The military lights have three part numbers and three descriptions, tow of them look exactly the same to me in the daylight and in the dark. I guess I will have to actually install them to see if there is a difference, they call one a spot light and the other is an auxiliary light. I will be curious to see if there is really much of a difference. The flood lamps are a much wider pattern, also the ones that I have the most of. I got two crates consolidated down to one without much effort, I wouldn’t ship them the way I have them, but for storage it will be fine. I hadn’t added the wiring harnesses yet, but they did fit well.

Write up a letter to add to the file that it was brought to the attention of said owner, etc. Have engineer add his notes and recommendations....

In order for said owner to remove the letter it has to be resolved properly.

Ug... fun times in the family business....

I am an officer of one company, but this tower is owned by another company that I have no control over at all. I am sure it will be all my fault per usual.

Not sure it would be your fault legally but the family part probably. If it’s his decision there isn’t much you can do about it. I tell customers what they should do IMHO, whether they do it or not? If it’s serious I note it on invoice or by email

Last week I was looking for some 4” wide forklift forks and one of the people that I had talked with measured theirs and they were 5” wide, I told them they wouldn’t work for me, no big deal. Today they messaged me and told me they were going to cut them up, was I still interested and I told them that I can’t save all the old forklift forks, some have to go to China to make cheap stuff for Amazon to sell. Apparently he thought that was funny and told me that since I made him laugh, I can have them if I want them. I might be taking a quick road trip for some forks. ;)

The electricians are coming Tuesday to swap my electrical panel over, that means I have a big mess I have to clean up first. :(

Been putting things in here for a couple weeks, most doesn’t belong in here or was an easy place to get it out of the weather. I guess I am going to have to actually deal with the scrap wire and copper now.
