I think the mud is going to be bad this weekend, we are supposed to get rain, couple that with melting snow and warmer temps and you have mud.

I do feel better about getting things moved out of the shop, it was really nice to be able to walk in and see the other end of the shop for a change. Tomorrow morning, I have help for a while and will clear out the office. I want to attempt to lift the big drill press, not sure if my forklift can do it or not. I know the hydraulics will pick the weight, but I don't have any counterweight, so the machine may be too tippy and that drill press is fairly top heavy.

Man i hate working in mud. the north side of my leanto is very bad right now, we moved a bunch of barrels yesterday BEFORE the rain hit and it was bad. I hope you miss the rain and just get the warm.

We are supposed to get some rain, I am ready for the mud, right now, it is better than snow.

Moved the file cabinets out of the office, so when I have some time, I can start the electrical outlet rework. I am also fixing the ceiling, but in order to do that, I essentially have to destroy it. I have a mouse issue and the only way to fix it is to add blocking so they can't get in. I don't think I could stop them from getting into the shop, but having the noise of them running around in the ceiling is about as close to insanity as I want to get. I am thinking I will move my can lights as well, now that the desk is in a different position. I could upgrade them to LED as well, that will help in the summertime, less heat. Lastly, the windows need to be finished off, I haven't figured out what I am doing with them yet, but anything will look better than no trim.

This is some dye stain I used a few years ago on Baltic Birch plywood. I really like how the blue pops once it gets clear coated.

That looks great, I need to get back to my desk top, but I have a temporary setup and really have not had time to mess with my stuff. I am learning a bit with my GF's bench, she wanted to just use waterlox and I am not sure I like it. I figure it is her bench and as long as she is happy with it, I am happy with it.

Looks like Friday and Saturday may be more shop time, we will see, my fingers are crossed.

Need updates Strouty! How's the weather over there? We have a few days of snow coming in. Very cold for April here. High barely breaking freezing this week.

Been chilly here as well, but I have been on the jobsite working through some erosion control issues. The shop has taken the back burner again, the office needs to be finished, and my car decided that it did not want one of the cam seals to hold oil anymore. All fun stuff!

Looking at the recent photos of your office, I'm wondering if you really need two doors. What if you blocked off the "end" door and just kept the "middle" door?

You could add a desk where the end door is, and keep your existing desk where it was (under the window). That way, there is a single corridor area accessed directly from the middle door. This seems more space-efficient than your new desk position, which seems to require more "corridor" space (where the chair goes and where you walk up to the desk). It would be easier to explain with a diagram and hand waving!

With two desks, one at each end of the office, you could have one desk for the computer and paperwork, and the other for electrical/electronic/assembly stuff, for instance. This second desk could have shallow shelves above it (where the door is now). The other side of the door would also then be blank wall that could have shelves, etc.

Of course I'm just going by your photographs. The physical reality may make what I'm suggesting impossible.

Ah, that *****. I've been sidetracked too. Tractor wiring took a dump among other things.

Rob, I had planned on taking that "end" door away, there is an overhang just beyond that and it will become a storage closet for all the supplies. As for the desk, I just had it on the end and it was not very functional, the way I show it in the pictures, there is actually much more room. The entire office is less than 6' wide, but it is about 15' long. I think of it like a galley kitchen. Ideally I would just make the entire space larger, but I do not have the time or motivation to do that right now.

86, I can't escape trouble even at the job site, the mini excavator keeps having starting issues. We think it is the low coolant sensor or wiring that is the culprit, but it is not consistent enough to diagnose it, so I really feel your pain!

I hope to spend a little time at the shop this weekend, it may only be long enough to move my GF's project to the house, but I figure anything is better than nothing at this point. I ordered the tools I need to fix the car, but I am not sure I am going to get to it anytime soon. At this point I am actually thinking it is time to buy another one.

The far side of crazy.. but sometimes Australia
In the meantime.. some amusement from a job I did a few weeks ago.. Tower took a lightning strike, 6 ODU’s later (all over 70m) it was functional again..

The workshop is taking shape quite nicely, keep it up but don’t eff your back up in the process.

The amount of grounding they do for the sites is amazing, especially when you consider if lighting decides to strike, it doesn't care how much grounding you do!

I have only messed with my back once so far this year and I knew it was going to happen, luckily I got over it pretty quick.

I will be at the shop today and should be able to get a few things done. The new burb is the real reason to go there, I just want to get the mirrors swapped out and maybe the stereo if there is time. We will see, looks like I won't even be there until 3PM, but I am at the mercy of my cousin, he is dropping me off so I can drive it back.

Is there a ground grid under the towers?
I worked for a regional power marketing agency building and updating high voltage substations. The entire substation including 4 feet outside the fences sat on a grid of copper to dissipate lighting strikes.

They do a ring for standard towers, the AM broadcast towers usually have a large mesh, but that is for more than just lightning. AM towers, the entire tower is the antenna and if you touch it while grounded, you get burned.

The ground mat in substations is 4-0 bare copper buried 18" under ground in a 4 ft square grid. On top of the copper is 18" of fractured on 4 sides 1-1/4 rock. Don't wear tennis shoes in a substation yard, it hurts. The whole idea is to remove step potential, the difference between one of your feet and the other.

I would assume the current flowing up your legs would fry your balls. :willy_nil

My memory might have safety factor error involved.

Yup, some will get interpreted wrong for sure.

The best ones are taken, but I am trying to make something that is good and easy to understand.
