Back when I was 250 and overweight, the BMI said I was morbidly obese, I lost 25 pounds on Atkins, so I know it works. Unfortunately for me, two of my favorite things are carbs and sugar. I do need to get my priorities straight.

Speaking of carbs and sugar, at least I have a water. ;)

Fat is really tasty too. I haven't missed sugar too much, but I do pretty well with recipes so maybe that's the trick.

I am also just under 6 feet (1.82 m) and I used to weigh 265 pounds. I managed to lose weight and I am at 187 pounds now.
I also love sugar, soda and carbs. I love Coca Cola and exactly the type of food that is bad for you.
The best thing I did that really helped me a lot was eating in the morning and having a snack every two or three hours. A kiwi, a banana or a low fat yogurt really helps.
Also eating some oats and cutting down on soda and bread.
The most important thing is to avoid reaching the point where you are very hungry because that's when you will eat like crazy and that means eating a lot very late in the evening.
I hope you will be able to lose weight.
Great thread and great pics on the top of the world. You must have a lot of courage to be able to do this type of work.

Cheers

Lots of it, been removing abandoned equipment from our towers, I still have two more towers to remove coax from. I am setting it aside for when I have little going on, then I can cut it in half (lengthwise) and get the copper out of it. Should be relatively painless with the vertical bandsaw. Once I have assessed the warehouse clean out, I may have to start prepping it for scrap, I don’t want to end up with too much to store. No sense in tripping over it.

Thanks Bogdan, I have tried the small meals and it didn’t work for me, I am going to give intermittent fasting a shot, my GF has wanted me to do it and sureshot just recommended it.

It has an OD of about 2 3/8” and the copper is not very thick. Once you cut it in half, you smash it with a hammer and the black jacket pulls off, then you peel the foam out. There is an inner and outer copper section. Last time I did this, I used a table saw, the bandsaw should be much nicer.

Partial office day today, then off to the shop for second shift. ;)

I need to get Clark out of the shop, but I would like to get a few more things done before I do. I also have to prep for a job on Wednesday, that one will be a bit better than the last few, we will be using a crane with a man basket for most of the work.

I have been on the 16/8 "fast" for decades during the work week. Works well for me. I just call it skipping breakfast as I'm not trendy. Not being a morning person makes it easy, I'm always running late in the morning, so no time to even think about food.

I am at 18 hours now, I am going to eat now, as I think this is a good time for me to eat, too late and I think it will mess with my sleep. I will be working towards 36 hours and possibly further.

At my heaviest I was close to 240 - then I worked in the Czech republic for 4 months ate a lot, drank a lot of beer and dropped down to 215. Within about a year I had gained it all back. Then I went and worked in Panama for about 3 1/2 months and dropped back down to 215 BUT this time I kept it off. I found that sugar or even worse fake sugar like high fructose Corn Syrup was the culprit.

Since then I have managed to drop down to about 195 by not avoiding fat, bacon, meat etc . . . but keeping an eye on sugar.

I have also found that corn syrup solids really sends my system into weight gain.

When I really started dropping weight was when a dr put me on the South Beach diet. You first drop all carbs then slowly add back in decent carbs. When you first do it you feel like you could eat a water buffalo but still feel hungry since your body is craving the sugar. After awhile I was at a friends birthday party and had some cake - my stomach kind of freaked and it was painful. So now its easier to avoid sugars and carbs!

To me the key is finding out what works for YOU.

The explanation behind the fasting makes the most sense to me, I have eating snacks all day and then having two meals, so essentially my body never stops storing fat. By fasting it should reverse this a bit and over time I should lose weight. My body type is what they call a mesomorph, I respond well to building muscle, so maybe fasting will have a good response too. I think the weekly regimen could be 24 hours and I will just eat lunch, that way I have a chance to use some of it before going to sleep. I know when I swapped dinner for breakfast, it helped because I was eating less at night.

Sugar will definitely be the hardest part, carbs are probably second to that, but I am sure I can do the fasting, it is easy and costs nothing. If I only ate once a day, I could also buy more tools!

21 hours, I expected to feel crazy hungry right now. I will just do 24 hours or a bit more for the first week, then see how it does for longer times.

Bev lost some oil. :(

1fea1e369b34674646317fade8956522.jpg

Couldn’t have been a much worse time or place, rush hour, partially blocking an intersection. No go, puddle of oil.

I guess it destroyed the housing, took the threads out on the high pressure HEUI pump.

Went 24 hours today myself.
I'm not sure going past a 16\8 more than once a week will have the desired effect as your body will become more efficient at digestion. Then you end up yanking every calorie out of all your food.

I only do a 24 about three times a year as I get too busy at work to bother eating. Always on a 400 or 500 mile travel/work day.

I just ran across this thread while waiting for the keto pizza to bake, for dinner. 7 months ago, I weighed 185 or so and am 5 foot 7 inches at age 37. In high school, I weighed around 165. After 7 months of the keto diet, I'm down to 163.5 lbs. and I have lost a bunch of fat.

My diet is full of fat and plenty of salt. 6 months ago I also got my first smoker, an akorn direct heat unit, and eat lots of meat. Every day, I have salad for lunch with Italian meats or ham and and various types of cheese along with yogurt and cheese sticks for a snack. My other snack k throughout the day is fat bombs. Some are coco power/chocolate and coconut oil, mint, nuts, heavy whipping cream and a sweetener that is natural but not sugar (no carbs). My coffee I. The morning gets lots of heavy whipping cream poured in and sometimes coconut, peppermint, or other flavoring/extract added.

My stomach does far better on this diet. Before the diet, it was comm5for me to have an upset stomach or to have to hit the bathroom too often or on short notice. I have been able to do construction work again, where before the diet, that type of physical work left me in far too much pain. While I have arthritis in my neck and lower back in one disc at each place along with none spurs in my neck, the amount of pain I have is much higher than others with similar problems. A long time doctor of mine said he has seen the same thing in other patients who eventually were diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

The keto/ low carb diet is supposed to be great for reducing inflammation and helping the brain function better. It is working well for me, compared to my previous diet of eating anything I wanted, in moderation. I still have pain every day but I have managed to get much more done while on the diet as I don't flare up as easily and recover faster from physical work.

For 17 years, I was a painter/drywall/finish guy and also learned many other trades. You won't catch me doing anything above 20 to 35 feet and definitely wouldn't catch me up a tower! I limit the high work as much as possible and let others handle it.

It is cool to see photos and videos of tower work as I admire people who can handle it. It is interesting and terrifying to watch all at the same time.

CGT80 - thanks for checking things out, I am still researching what I want to do, the fasting seems like the easiest way to accomplish what needs to be done. I know I need to change my regular eating habits too and the keto diets seem to be a good place to look.

Kev - from my limited research, it doesn’t appear to maximize you calories until you don’t have enough fat stores to use, then your body would go into more of a starvation mode. Doing the 24 should be enough to burn extra and not freak my body out too much. Will be doing a lot more research for sure.

Bev is going to need a new HEUI pump, Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injector, looks relatively painless to change, but until all the bolts are out, let’s just say I am not keeping high hopes. I have not priced used yet, but remand seems to be about $1000 with the core charge and I probably will lose the core due to the threads, but that is only if they catch it I guess.

That ***** on having to be towed... ug....

I had to do some googling to see what that is.... So it's basically an oil powered pump for pressurizing and injecting diesel fuel, correct?

That is exactly what it is, it is acts as a bit of a fail safe too, no oil pressure, no run.

I am trying to find a local pump, looks like it is my best option at this point.

All my parts and the towing will total $2000, if I get my core charge back, likely not due to the threads on the housing being destroyed, it would save me almost $250. Bev is worth nothing not running, so she is going to get fixed, this time..... ;)

Had half a day in a man basket, set all the antennas, need to finish the connections on Friday, but it is supposed to be close to 40, so I will be glad to do it. Today was like 15, with 20 MPH winds and I had to have my gloves off while putting 7/16" hardware onto the antennas, while balancing the antenna, plus the only place to put the stainless hardware was in my mouth. Nothing like having really cold metallic nuts in your mouth! :wtf:

Parts should be in this afternoon, will try and get things disassembled tonight, that way I can order anymore parts needed so I can finish Bev over the weekend. The only unknown at this point is what I will need for the air compressor, it needs to be removed so I can replace one line that has been updated, considering mine is the original line, it makes sense to do the major lines anyways. I am willing to bet there will be more things to do that I am going to figure out as I go.

Office day today, not for me really, for my Dad’s company, I do get paid and right now any money is going to help out. At least I have most of my Christmas shopping done.

Last night turned into a late office night, picked up the parts for Bev this morning, looks like I will attempt the repairs today, that way if I need more parts, I should be able to get them.

Got the major parts installed, decided to not change all the oil lines, way too much work for Bev, still had to go buy 2 more special O-rings from CAT. Should have her back together in a couple hours. Fingers crossed nothing else was damaged, will be changing the oil and filter as well as the fuel filter. I was kind of mad that CAT didn’t paint the HEUI pump, I didn’t want to paint it in case something goes south and I need to return it. Might spray it out after I know everything is leak free and working.
