Just found out my 1993 trailer that I bought a couple months back is actually a 1986. :(

I new the guy was a bit shady, but without a VIN, I went by his registration info. Only good thing is that it is in decent shape for a 1986, if it was a 1993 I would say it was in worse shape. ;)

Found the air tank leaks and the brake cans are seized along with slack adjuster, about what I figured it would be. I am trying to make an informed decision on the trailer I want to buy tonight, if it doesn’t have working brakes, I am just going to fix this one.

After talking to the trailer place, I think swapping the entire axles will be cheaper than trying to upgrade the existing ones, still isn’t cheap, but it also gets the job done with less work. I don’t want to commit to it right now, so I guess I will buy the other trailer and hope it works for me.

No VIN uncovered, info was from the axles, they are dated 1986, hard to believe they would be used on a 1993 trailer, but maybe?

I am not too concerned about it, after looking things over, the frame and deck are mostly good, the axles and spring hangers are essentially junk. I will be essentially building an updated version of the trailer, then I will have to register it as homemade since I don't have a VIN. No big deal for me, trailer is for local use and DOT doesn't usually care about the VIN, just the fact that the trailer is up to snuff and doesn't look overloaded.

I have just spent another couple hours working on Perk's lights, this issue has been plaguing me for weeks, the headlights work, the taillights/marker lights work, just not at the same time, you had to chose one or the other, not a good situation. I started testing all the relays and reviewing the circuits, nothing made sense, I drew a chart, marked out voltage or ground, or nothing for each pin on the relays, even more confused. I watched youtube videos, read some articles, still nothing clicked. I started drawing my own diagram and could not make heads or tails of what was happening. I thought there should be a ground at one point, but I had 12 volts, made no sense, so I opened up the dash and this is what I found.........

4d8e4c46a241a260db7128242b830678.jpg

This is the interrupt switch, so you can flash tail lights without losing headlights when someone flashes to let you know it is safe to pull in after a lane change, completely disconnected. :(

This is what happens when you have two people swapping jobs midway. Oh well, it is fixed now and I will have most of the relays put back together this afternoon.

Yes it is, I thought I was going to be chasing a wiring nightmare forever.

Next I have to get the trailer lights wired up, I know those work, I just need to put a different plug on the end, fingers crossed that doesn’t turn into something bigger.

Had a '95 Jeep Cherokee, tailgate lock solenoids leads reversed.. Locks doors, tailgate unlocked. Simple fix, once I figured out what was going on..

Who knows on how long a mfr takes to use a stockpile of axles.. I bought a enclosed trailer, the date codes on the tires were 3 years older than the date of mfr of the trailer, and yes they were the OEM tires....

Use to deal with NCIC issues back in the day......

Got the trailer last night, good thing I fixed the lights, it was after dark before I got home. This trailer is in much better condition, a couple spots need welding, the lights need to be fixed, not sure if it is the wiring or actual lights, but I will figure it out.

For the rest of this week I would like to get things setup in the shop at TH, would be even better if I could get the pallets at the warehouse organized so I know what I have. Still need to get the rollers situated at the SG, that should take a few hours at a minimum. Next week I would like to start listing some things on eBay as well.

Talking to my buddy yesterday, I really want to get the engine swapped into Perk, seems to make sense that I do the engine and transmission, plus the front and rear end along with the air ride suspension for the rear and cab all at once rather than taking the truck apart three times. This will involve some planning, but I think I can make it happen. I am thinking that it would be better to do this summer rather than waiting for the winter, this way I can do most of it outside.

Trailer needs some cleaning, a couple patches on some spring hangers, and a good coat of paint. This is of course after the wiring is sorted out. Right now I am planning on fixing the lights and welding the suspension brackets, then using it. Not sure if it will be a permanent trailer for me or if I am going to just use it for a little while and sell it.

I am sealing up the fuel tank for the track crane, bought some stuff from Eastwood, I think it will work well judging by what it did to my hands. :( One of the gloves ripped, so I got a little on one hand, then when I took the gloves off, I got a little on the other hand. Just a few spots of silver, no big deal, washed my hands and now the stuff spread, I have some silver and some dark staining on my hands. Good thing I don’t live in California, I would probably drop dead before lunch.

This is after using lava and a scrub brush, it seemed to spread it out further and it is in the skin, I tried scraping with a knife and it did nothing. :(

80d4e1a033ed4cc4d213ae0d2a25bc36.jpg

Like I said, I think it will seal the tank well. Draining out the last of it now, they say 96 hours to set, but it is cooler, so I will probably wait longer.

The bucket works fine, but it isn’t weather tight.

That stuff on your hands reminds me of that POR-15 I tried back in the 90's. Took a couple of weeks to ware off.

Hopefully it will work for you better in the tank then on your hands.

That would be pretty cool for sure.

As for the stuff on my hands, I figure it is with me for a while, probably a couple weeks just like the POR. At least it isn't like that "great stuff" insulation, that is awful, actually need to use a knife to scrape it off.

I thought it was going to rain today, but it looks like not until late tonight, so I am trying to get a few more outside things done, I really want to fix the pressure washer, then clean up the Lista cabinet and get it ready for use. I just moved the track crane out, the fuel tank will need to sit in here for a bit, but this afternoon, I am going to put it down in the quonset hut so it is out of my way. I still have diesel fuel in the OGMC burb tank, need to get that emptied out, then move that tank too. The biggest thing inside right now isn't really the big, the rods for the tower reinforcement project, they are taking up a lot of room and I can take them outside, they need to be painted and installed still. I keep forgetting to look at the tower and see if they are white or orange, hopefully not a split (pretty sure they are in a solid color and not at a split). One more of many things on my to do list that I want to turn into a ta done list.

Unfortunately not. :(

Today was a really long and busy day. Got a lot partially done, hopefully I can get more done this weekend, my back has been pretty sore since last Saturday with moving all those rollers around.

Still sore, taking an early evening, need to do laundry.

Yesterday I went to the tower site and figured out that the reinforcement rods are going to be painted white. Also had to put a tarp over the Dodge, truck has been at the tower for 15 or more years, but now some kids decided to smash all the windows, brake off the mirrors, and jump on the roof until it caved in. Not happy at all.

Then I had help getting one of Dad’s forklifts apart so the rams can be fixed, then I helped my buddy with his truck and ended up getting home at about 9:30. :(

This morning I worked with my Cousin to get the wood that they sawed into banded bundles.

23b882c09fd7d130e9a335fb155b2098.jpg

Then I had errands to do, I was first refused service because I was wearing a mask at the UPS store, then when I went to deposit money in the account of a guy I am buying a truck from, Bank of America says they have a policy that a non account holder can’t deposit cash into someone else’s account. MFERS.

Then I helped setup and level a plasma table at my buddy’s place, had driver issues, hopefully we can get it working next week.

Crazy stupid about Bank of America. (Maybe it needs a different name) I think you can tell when banks have too much money when refuse to accept more.

You’ve been a really busy guy lately!

I told my bank they can let anyone who wants deposit money in my account, but not to let them take it out. So far no deposits.

I have trouble depositing my rent into a CHASE bank account for my landlord (my sister holds the mortgage on my place). It has something to do with Bernie Madoff and banking scams. Still *****. They do allow me to deposit a check into her account. Funny, at the bank in a more wealthy area, they hassled me. But if I go to the bank in a lower income area and stand in line with everyone who has ROLLS of cash to deposit and only speak spanish, I don't don't get hassled. Interesting huh?

My bank told me because I withdrew more than $8k in cash in one weeks time they would be reporting me to the government. WTF it's my money. AND one of the withdrawals, they almost didn't have enough cash to pay me. WTF. they told me I needed to "order" large amounts of cash. I made sure EVERY person in line or at a teller heard me asking them why they didn't have enough money to pay me out and why they were reporting me. LOL it got really quiet in there for a few minutes. And I got to go talk to the bank manager too! in his office, with the door closed...

My bank asks me to call ahead if I need over $5k, but it is usually do to the fact that I want hundreds, twenties are almost always available to pick up the slack. Weird on the reporting, I thought $10k was the threshold? When I bought Perk, I had to got to two branches to get $18k in hundreds.

Back is still pretty sore, *****, it is beautiful outside and I feel like I am going to crumple. I am going to take it slow today and see how things go, generally when I go to any of the shops, I end up overdoing it, but I am going to try. I have a lot of tools to put into the tool box I moved up to the Hill. I keep trying to think of things I can do that won't aggravate the situation, only thing I can come up with is cleaning or office work, not thrilled about either.

yeah, I actually knew that $10k was the federal threshold, $8k is "bank policy". Thing I got cranky about was the bank manager could not show a piece of paper with that policy on it. Not even in the fine print for setting up account or anything.

I understand the lack of physical paper money too. But again, they don't say anything on paper.

I have banked there for 40 years and I didn't like how they treated me. But I shouldn't have been surprised, businesses of all types no long care about the customer/client. Hell, anymore they don't even care about their employees either.

I feel for your back pain. I have intermittent neck and lower back issues. I totally know when a flare up is coming on. I try to watch how I move my body or how I do things. But ****, sometimes there is no options for a task.

Seems the no option comes up more often than not.

Banks are funny things, I found the bank with the fewest branches, love them, they know me by name at multiple branches and treat me like a human being not a number.

I decided to try the Amazon return at the same UPS store that told me I had to leave because I wasn't wearing a mask. Half the people inside weren't wearing masks, no one said anything, I looked at the written policy they had posted, nothing about a mask requirement. Now I want to find the guy that told me to leave and give him a piece of my mind.

So far I have done nothing to hurt my back, I am in the office placing some orders, then I am going to work on cleaning up the shop a bit, I also need to get a list of things together that I need for the new trailer rewiring, might need to take a trip over to the SG and see what supplies I already have.

We used to bank with bbt, but they are horrible so we closed that account and went to the credit union. No problems at all so far.

Banks can be a pain in the ***, we regularly have issues.

Backs are an other issue. I am in screaming pain due to no activity. My knees back and hips. I skate to keep in shape and at this age not being on ice for two months is killing me. There is really no activity that uses the whole body like ice skating or playing hockey.
The last time I was off this long was when I broke my tibia pleatau ski racing. Even after my knee replacement I was on skates at 2 months

I wish mine was sore due to inactivity.

Got a list of things to deal with in the next couple weeks, this month is going to be a bit more stressful than normal, I have a ton of things going on and then the closing for the official purchase of the SG is on the 26th of May.

I think June is going to be a relief in some ways, at least if all the things get accomplished that are supposed to happen in May.

Top priorities are:

rewire trailer lights

install radio in Perk

reinstall door and dash trim panels on Perk

install larger hydraulic tank and cooler on Perk

get the parts truck from Mass

get the cool trailer from NY

Take a break............

Kind of need these things done by the 15th, too much going on the second half of the month, so I have to rush a bit.

Was the Dodge usable ? Pi$$ed me off seeing the destruction, had similar happen years ago (my first 4 wheels - a '31 Model A pickup I drove the last two years of HS) I had it parked in back of my dad's work - kids broke all the glass, did in the radiator. Cameras at the tower site?

No cameras, dodge was running and driving, just needed a battery and some air for the tires. We start it up every other year, haven’t plowed with it for a while, just haven’t had the same amount of snow.

I made some progress, but definitely overdid it. I am going to do a couple more things, then I think I will head home and chill out and try not to overdo it tomorrow. I don’t think this will be the permanent layout, but for now it works well. Once I can get all the steel out of the shop, it will gains me a wall that I desperately need. In order to do that, I need an empty conex, in order to have that, I need to empty a conex and transport it up here. Thinking that will be a June or July project.

3ab40716e89f31356271d2385ccc3f73.jpg

I have to cut away more of the wood shelves so I can tuck the Lista box in, it will look better once that is done, really need to get rid of all the wood shelving and just install something better suited for my application.

This side is a mess, need to paint those rods and get them out, also need to get that fuel tank done for the track crane.

I guess I lied, still moving things, still have a sore back, but I think it will be nice to go home feeling like something got done, also worked through a plan for cleaning up my mess. There is a bunch of stuff that I am not ready to install, or to mount, or configure, so I am bringing it into the house, well the mud room, will make things ten times better in the shop for the time being, then as I need them I will just have to go to the house for them.

Still going.

Crappy thing is it looks like my orange electric fork lift has a bad battery, I am going to try charging it again with the trickle charger, but I think I may need to bring the big charger over, it charged at least 24 hours and only ran for a couple minutes before it decided to stop working again. All cells had plenty of water over the plates, so I upped the amps and will let it charge overnight again. If it isn’t one thing, it is always something else. :(

Stouty a couple of suggestions.

Just buy another container, have it delivered where you need it. Then take care of the project you have planned for it. Where are gonna put the stuff you already have in the existing container. It'll get in the way and be more frustrating than spending some money.

Go ahead and just jerk those wooden shelves out of there and put in what you want.

It looks like there is a bunch of space up high in that first pic with the stepladder in it. Can you slide some pallet rack in there?

Pallet racking is next project, supposed to get some local, but I haven’t chased the sales guy, it is nice used stuff and it hasn’t been outside yet.

The conex is tuff, I need to unload things anyways, most of it was either headed for the Hill or was temporary storage, probably could have it unloaded in a few hours since most of the stuff is on wheels. I can’t justify another $3500 for a conex right now, I have too many other projects that money needs to go towards. I also need to move it, just so I can have the experience of moving it. The extendable step deck trailer should haul it, but I want to do it no matter what. Need to test out the trailer and Perk for that matter. I want to figure out a way for me to load one without having to hire out any help, been doing a bit of research and I think I can make it work, Perk can only pick one end at a time, so I figure I need to make some legs that allow me to lift the front, then lift the back, then back the trailer under it. I need to be self sufficient. ;)

Almost done with shuffling things, looks a lot better, but once I get the tool box loaded up, I have to move things around again and clean up the layers of dust, it is gross, but today I just wanted to see what was possible.

I took a partial load down to the Quonset hut and this load is going into the house. The batteries are the worst part, but I am not ready for them yet, they are going in Bev, but the battery box needs to be repaired before I install them. Luckily the batteries in it are good enough to use for warm temps.
