Tomorrow will be a big day for figuring out what is happening over the next couple weeks. I suspect that there will be a lot with Perk and the new dump trailer. For the little work that I will need to use it for, I probably will just take the tailgate off if it looks like it will become an issue before dumping the loads. I definitely need to get some tires on it and the new tarp/mesh cover. Main thing is to get Perk so the dump trailer works.

That looks like an old trailer. Who made it? East Manufacturing?

10 yds is probably close but maybe more than what you can really haul. Im kinda winging my estimates here, but my family has single axle dumps with alum bodies and they haul 10-12yds. But they don't have a big heavy trailer to deal with. You have a similar size truck (chassis, drivetrain, etc), but then add the trailer so I think you'll be just under that.

The dump is made by Hill, 1986 vintage, looks like the tub would hold 30 yards or more. As long as I have the gears, I can haul up to 69k total combined on the current chassis. Need to weigh Perk first to find out where I stand. Have been thinking about getting a set of portable scales so I can mess around with my trucks as needed, but right now I need to put that money elsewhere.

Looks like I want to find 4.30 gears, that will keep my top speed about the same, but will significantly increase my low end torque multiplication. Current gears are 3.55, I have some 3.90s and that may end up being where I go for now, depends on the scrap yard and what it costs to get a set of 4.30s. Even 4.10s wouldn't be too bad, but I guess it will depend on what is available.

I would loan you my four scales and alignment pad but the scales only will do 2000 lbs a pad and willing to bet you would turn my aluminum alignment pad into a pretzel when you drove Perk on it.

There is a guy that has four that are rated for 25k each in Red Hook, he won't ship them though. Good deal too, might have to take a ride, at least I could go in a car for that trip.

That seems about right.

My series 50 runs 75 mph with 4.56 gears and 10 speed OD on low pro 22.5's

Is that an app you are using?

Spicer website, search spicer ratio calculator and it should pop up.

Damn Fords, the 550 is not running right, no oil pressure on gauge.

My buddy is coming over with a manual oil pressure gauge. Couldn't be no oil pressure or it wouldn't have even started, still baffling.

Looks like tomorrow will be another adventure, going to have to take the burb to Massachusetts, should be fun trying to get 900 pounds of transmission in there. Guy has a lift gate, wish I had more people, then someone could take pictures.....

After that, I am headed to Connecticut to meet the guy from NY with the truck scales I bought on eBay. Then headed home, may have to make a pit stop to Cheesecake factory, haven't had any of that goodness since last year. :(

Sadly, I am sitting here looking at the fully charged drone, wondering why I am doing all this running around and not just playing with the new toy? :(

Can we get some pics OF the drone, while we're waiting for pics FROM the drone?

Hope the oil gauge issue isn't too serious. The fact that it starts has to be a good sign.

It was just the sending unit, so no big deal, we are set for next week to do the injectors, glow plugs, and glow plug harness. Then I think it will be in good working order. The injector controller has been replaced, we are also going to do a trans spill and fill as a precaution, no clue when that was done last, if ever.

I looked at another trailer yesterday, it is a very strange one, probably will buy it, but I think it will be a flip, could make some money on it. Once I have the deal done, I will post the details.

Has been sitting for about 4 years, but it is in really good condition, I am sure it will need some tinkering, but what trailer doesn’t? ;)

I am about ready to head out on my road trip, decided to take the 550, wish me lots of luck.

Already in Connecticut waiting for the scales, looks like he won’t be here for a while, I might take a nap.

18 speed was in decent condition, but it will need some cleaning and paint. The guys were some happy when I showed up with the 550 instead of the Burb. They both were like.... does that crane work?....... then it was like YES!

The only issue is getting up and down off the back body. I need to rework it so there are steps or something.

Met with the guy from NY and got the scales, really heavy duty, they will be a nice addition for sure.

Had a spare minute to look at a “Tru-Hitch” setup that I have been eyeballing. Guy ran through the functions, I have to take measurements to see if it will fit Perk or not, but I may end up buying that, then I will have my own wrecker and that could be dangerous. ;)

Meeting with my cousin for a quick lunch, then headed to look at those forks for the knuckle boom.

Bought the forks, might have gotten hosed on them, will have to mess with them some more, they don’t seem to self level like they are supposed to. Definitely haven’t been used in a while, so might take a bit of time to get them functioning properly?

The transmission is inside and ready to be cleaned up and looked over. Probably going to paint it blue like the frame on Perk.

The trip was a success, 550 performed as it should, mileage was pretty much what I thought, 11.1, I will say that this tank had 18 miles of around town and some crane work thrown in before I left. I am now going to keep track of the hours so I can see what the usage versus mileage is, but that will take a couple tanks of fuel to figure out.

I need to take some measurements on Perk to see if the Tru-Hitch would be viable. I don’t have any pictures of it folded out, will pull a couple from the interwebs so the operation makes sense. These are what it looks like folded up and that is my main concern, when it is in operation it acts just like any other trailer.

Tonight before I left the Hill, I had the garage door opened and I saw a little black and white kitty, it came in the shop and decide to hide under some of the cabinets. I spent a while trying to get it out, finally had to pick it up and carry it outside. Cute little kitty.

Yes, had to grab it by the scruff of the neck, it essentially went limp and I quickly brought it outside. I had to keep blocking its path off, it kept trying to go towards me and further into the shop. I tried using a broom to push it out, but it would dig its claws into the concrete and was really hard to move. I didn’t want to hurt it and have it spray inside the shop, so I was pretty gentle. It was not afraid of noise or anything and it only showed its teeth once when I had it cornered and was trying to get it out with the broom handle. It would tap both front paws on the concrete trying to tell me to go away, it really was kind of cute. I think it lifted its tail twice early on, but thankfully didn’t spray anything, that would have sucked.

I've seen those forks in action for years delivering building materials and the self leveling action seems to always need a little manipulation of the boom at the first "pic" attempt to find the c.g. in relation to the top rolling lift point. It always gets drug towards the forks while entering under your pic, then find the sweet spot. Smooth roller operation is (I think) the best you can do. I haven't actually operated a set, but it's pretty simple to observe what's going on there.
I think you'll find them handy in most situations and avoid dragging a forklift around for most things.

Cute one! looks like maybe a young one, this years crop maybe? Looking for it's first adult home.

I have heard, if you have a resident skunk, then you won't have snakes or a mouse problem. They are in the weasel family so they eat most small animals and also insects and grubs etc. They get to know you and everyone just lets everyone alone. You do need to make noise when out and about to let them know you are there and they don't get startled and mis-fire at you. With your abundant selection of mostly mobile trucks and trailers parked and stacked everywhere at any given time, your new buddy is sure to find a domicile she likes. Just name it and call out to it every time you are out in the yard to let her know you are around.

I had a coworker who said she had one under the front porch of her girlhood home for years. No one got sprayed.

I had them under my last house, it was no slab, just 10in crawlspace on grade. They were fine until they had a party and made a ton of noise and wouldn't be quiet. I stomped on the floor, it got really quiet, my two dogs worriedly looked at the floor, looked at me, looked at the floor and then left the room. That's when the smell hit me. It had sprayed under the house. Smelled for months. At work people just got used to me being a little skunky. I had no mice though.

The skunks moved out and sublet to raccoons. They were really hard to get rid of, kept trying to dig new entrance holes. Sounded like they were digging a new rec room down there. Very destructive too. skunks don't vandalize like raccoons do.

My mom had a skunk as a pet when she was growing up. It just wondered into the yard and stayed. They treated it like a cat. But it never smelled and was domesticated. She thought it was a lost de-scented pet... But it was back in the 1940s, so she admitted she didn't remember it too well.

What would really be cool, is if you could get a badger. They are great to have around.

I have lots of animals around the Hill, lots of turkeys, deer, ground hogs, wood peckers, some type of dog (I think a coyote), now the skunk is joint the crew.

Power is out all around, been chasing generators and issues all morning.

My right shoulder is smoked, I may have pulled a muscle or something, it is killing me and I can’t lift it much without feeling like I want to cry. :(

I wanted to take Perk over to get the hydraulics figured out, but I don’t think I can shift right now due to my shoulder, I am going to take the afternoon off and see if it feels better tomorrow. I really need to get the hydraulics working, I wanted to demo that concrete building and so it would be fine before the tower comes down, might not happen, but I wanted to try. I think it will take me three trips to haul it away, I am limited by weight pretty badly. I figure the building is probably 60k pounds, then there are some slabs there too.
