Strouty You sure have some COOL $#!+ there, is that a C70 square body? I used to drive one, I liked it alot, Is that military truck a 6X6 or is one axle dead? I am sure you covered this but this thread is almost 500 pages and my memory is changing, and not for the better! I see that ambulance is still there, I don't want to poke that bear if that is a sore spot, And you have 1/4 of the entire 37th Generation(?) of Suburbans. I am JEALOUS as #e!!. Sorry to bring up another tender spot but what has gone on with that house you were trying to procure in a couple of these pic's, New siding on the front and missing windows on the side? Are the playing with a full deck? Too Bad that didn't work out for you. On the other hand the rest of the game of life seems to coming into alignment for you, that is a bonus! Harry

The 5 ton is a 6x6, no dead axles.
Ambulance is supposed to be used for pieces of a toy hauler/hotshot body.
Burbs are never a sore spot, you can’t own just one, they get lonely.

What’s the story on the Ford with the knuckle boom? I don’t recall it being showcased.
That was what started my knuckle boom issue. My brother sold it to me, then I went looking for a truck to put it on, not a Ford fan, especially that body (yes I know I have two in the yard). After using it for a while around the yard, I decided it was too small for what I wanted and that is when I went looking again. Glad I did, I really like the winch setup that Perk’s boom has. At this point, the Ford knuckle boom is a yard truck, technically my brother owns the truck, we did some trading, I bought the GMC top kick to put the boom on, but since that is a high pressure liquid propane Injection system, it isn’t as easy to fill and it has a leak (the Ford is also propane powered, just standard vapor). I plan to convert the top kick to a regular gas engine at some point, then the truck and boom will be useful.
Last night the wind was so bad, it opened the garage door a foot or so at the Hill, the floor is soaked, part of the metal roofing has torn up and is flapping in the breeze. I don’t have any way to reach the roof, so I guess I will be getting the bucket truck earlier than expected. New priority plan, fix roof on shop and stove pipe chimney for house. I think I will take a trip to the SG and see how things look there as well.

Insurance company says $500 then they base off depreciation, so not worth the claim. She was understanding about removing it for the winter. I tried to explain the entire fence was the same way, she wanted it flush with the ground, and she didn’t want to coat or paint it. Got 14 years out of it. I think we should have gotten more, but she also backfilled mulch all around the posts and the bottom of the fence. I am sure that sped up the process substantially.
I want to make up a galvanized fence with wood panels, but we aren’t sure we are staying there, so I do not want to put that kind of effort into things until we have a better idea.

I wish, but the house we live in has a “big lot”, almost an eighth of an acre! The fence needs to be a fence, the GF is understanding that it won’t be until spring.
I am back over at the SG loading up some bulky trash so I can hit the dump tomorrow, got one load from the Hill today.

Got a few things together for tomorrow, need to make another trip to the dump, then have to hit the tower site to clean up the last of the mess. I also need to hit the scrap yard to get the little dump trailer emptied out. This all sounds relatively easy, but there are a million pieces to make it happen, then there will be all the interruptions, plus my to do list that didn’t get done today, so........

Got to look at a job this morning, one for my friend's company, will be using Perk and the extendable trailer to haul and lift 50' beams. Should be fun and should be the first real money Perk has made, assuming they get the job.
I am off to the dump, then I think I will go to the tower site and pick up the rest of the scrap/trash from there. The transformers are staying in the shed for now, still don't have any answers about how to dispose of them.
It is dry, but cold outside, trying for a productive day!

Met with a rep from the local POCO, they told me the transformers were a weird voltage that would not have been used by them, so they couldn’t take them, still going to check to see if they can help me to dispose of them. Fingers crossed.
Took the rest of the pile of old radio equipment, had to dump it up at the Hill, will need to sort it a bit, not sure if the scrap yard will take a lot of it without a lot of prep on my end. Probably talk to the dump and see what they would charge to take it as is. I just need it gone and the money comes from the Family Trusts, so no real skin off my back.
I am gathering up some more miscellaneous steel, then I have to pull the oil pan off the old 6.0 Diesel engine so I can get that gone as well.

Little trailer won’t fit everything, so off to dump it, then grab lunch, then I can finish things when I get back.
Will need to unbolt a few things and get some of the radio equipment out of the mix, then I can get rid of the bulky stuff and the radio equipment can be dealt with later.

My electrician says getting rid of the transformers is easy, rent a storage unit, put them in it, don’t pay.
Does your town/county etc do a yearly household waste drop off day? Have the GF tell them she found them in the grand parents shed while doing estate clean up.
I would suggest you not use one of of your fancy boom trucks to deliver them to the county drop off place. Better to use the GF's car, more realistic for the household back "story"...
Funny story: my old boss's grandfather was a hard-rock miner. Turns out he stored a crate of dynamite in the garage. It was there for DECADES. During the clean out of that garage, they had to call the bomb squad out to come get it. Apparently it was quite the exciting event.
My boss had fond childhood memories of "fishing" with Grandpa. He actually would do the dynamite fishing trick. It was a different and simpler time, those old guys are surely missed.
I think at this point, too many people know about them, they will have to be disposed of properly. I just want to get it done, honestly don't care how much it costs, just don't want to be the one that has to deal with it anymore. Even after the scrap, I still have a bunch of stuff that needs to be disassembled before anyone will take it. Lots of capacitors and things that no one wants these days. I was thinking of putting an add on marketplace for free, must take all, but I am not sure I want the person that is willing to take the stuff at my properties, I feel bad about saying that, stereotypes and all.
The last scrap trip was almost $36, so we have a $75 dollar day!
Electrician ended up at the Hill to get all the can lights in and to get the water heater working again. They are almost done and the water heater is making heat again, be glad to use hot water to wash my hands.

I did some searching on the web. It does look like you will need to use a commercial waste company. Try safety klean/clean harbors, they are big, know how to do it right and are listed as a state of Maine approved waste handler. Use one of your companies and write it off as a business expense? What company owns the property that the transformers were found on?
FYI. there are always small companies that buy property that has old **** stored on it. This is why a phase I site assessment is done when buying commercial property. I seem to recall that this property was in the family, so a phase I was probably not done. In the end, it is usually the current owner who is on the hook, because the state can find you.

As a last resort, you could try the EPA. But I’d stay away from that for as long as you can. Even when you’re doing things correctly, you don’t want them sticking their noses in.

No one local has any idea what to do with them, clean harbors rep actually told me that if I removed the oil they would dispose of the transformers. WTF? I think the only way to do it is take a sample of oil from both and have them tested. Once I have paperwork, the big disposal company will help me, but not until after the oil is certified by a lab.

Stay away from the EPA. This is a state issue for you not federal.
The state or county must have someone who you can contact. They deal with this kind of thing all the time. Odd that the clean harbors rep didn't suggest who you could contact. But you are a little guy so not a lot of money in it for them.
Try this link on the Maine state website. You need to figure out what type of waste you have (I think hazardous waste not universal waste). There is state contact phone number listed:

Make sure you use a Maine certified lab for the testing method you need. When you talk to the lab representative, make sure they know where the sample comes from (transformer oil) because testing oil is VERY different from testing water or soils etc. Again, the bigger labs may not want to deal with you, but be careful of the little labs saying they are certified. As an example: the labs are certified by testing method and may not be certified for PCBs but are certified for metals.

When you decide on a lab, they should send you a sampling kit with the proper bottles to fill and the paper work you need to use (chain of custody and shipping labels) to return the samples to the lab.
Make sure you name each transformer (you said you have two?) uniquely and that the bottle labels and chain of custody (COC) all match (these are legal documents). Mark the actual transformers with the unique "name" you decide on. I suggest "TRAN-1" and "TRAN-2" to keep the length short. Laboratories try to limit sample names to about 10-12 characters. This is because if one transformer is clean and has no PCBs, then you only need to dispose of other one as waste. BUT if you mix them up, and dispose of the dirty one the wrong way you will create a big issue for your self. And since you won't get your lab results for at least twenty days, you don't want to forget which is which.
The lab I spoke with said do NOT burn oil with PCBs, it will be bad, very bad.
They both have serial numbers on the tags, so I would use those to name the samples. I don’t want to get too involved with the state yet, if I can’t deal with this for a reasonable cost privately, then I will enlist the state. I just have visions of the land being classified as a hazardous waste dump and them wanting to test everything to confirm any issues.
