The red trailer looks to be a nice setup!!! Hopefully you don't have to do much to the actual trailer. It appears to be in pretty decent shape. Just curious on the price on that one....

I paid $15k for it, not my typical buy cheap, never fix, price, but I felt like I have to have at least one trailer that can pass a DOT inspection.

Strouty - Kentucky made a really nice trailer. Hauled around variations of one of those in that livery for about 5 years. Was an owner/operator for Mayflower back in the early 70s.

oak floor, lots of vertical track for e-track like attachments. Belly boxes were where we stored the ramps and other stuff. Lots of doors for access. Should have a full set of lights on the ceiling.

Was a lifetime ago.

Oh, it has a bottom, we are closing in on the basement. The forklift wasn’t a planned purchase, it was listed wrong and the guy did not have any info in the description, should have been double the price, so I pulled the trigger. If it doesn’t work for me, it will be easy to make money on.

Ron, the moving van will be a huge asset in about a month. I need to clear out one of the Conex boxes so I can build my fancy shelving system, this will allow me to do that and more. It is a much longer trailer, the seller said it was 51’, but I think it is 53’, either way, it is at least 10’ longer than any of my other storage trailers. It is not perfect, but it is dry, rear door needs a bit of work, the lower corner was damaged and the hinge is messed up. Shouldn’t be too bad to fix it, it doesn’t need to be perfect either.

Right now I need to get the new trailer registered and functional so I can pick up the new forklift, shooting for a week from Sunday. I think the path of least resistance on that will be to take the pony motor and pump from the other hydraulic tail trailer and basically make it function as a portable hydraulic pump. This will allow me to use it for other things as well as the trailer, allowing a truck without a wet system to not only haul the trailer, but also be able to use the hydraulic tail as designed. Depending on what goes on tomorrow, I may pull the pump off the older trailer and get it inside so things can develop in a warmer space....

I am going to try and pick up the moving van trailer at some point in the next week as well, it will most likely be after dark on a weekday or on the weekend too. I suppose I could just run back and forth on Sunday and get both the trailer and the forklift, all depends on the weather.

I want to see a video of how that ramp works.
#Metoo can't figure out how this one works
If there is another hinge point just behind the rear wheels I can see how it works but can't see the picture clearly enough on my phone to confirm there is that hinge point there so a video will clear it all up

The other thing that I am starting to realize is that Perk will be in the current form for probably another year before I have version 2.0 completed. I plan to upgrade the transmission, wet system, change the rear end gears (again), and add a toolbox or two, these upgrades should make things much better overall. I will swap the hood over and change the front tires, but honestly, I don't think I will paint the hood, seems like a waste of effort at this point, two tone orange and white should look great!

If the forklift was that good of a deal, I would focus on getting there ASAP to pick it up!!!

I remember when I got a smoking deal on my Piranha iron worker, I got there as fast as I could with my trailer and cash.... Even tho I was slugging along with a sore throat/cold.

With the flakey buyers and sellers these days (thanks Facebook and craigslist)... I could see the seller changing his mind and selling it at a higher price.....

It does look to be a decent forklift... If you get that home, maybe some of the other projects can head down the road .....

Mine isn't quite as nice as that one, my hinge is at the rear tire, so not as low of an incline and I don't have the second ramp to get to the top of the trailer.

one of the youtube channels I watch had one of those type trailer the worked on. Underside and how it works is shown in the video. Cylinders lift and lower the deck, and another little cylinder drops a frame in place to hold it up in travel mode.

Strouty can you put a load on that deck part that flips up and still have it fold and unfold properly? Or do you have to keep the actual load completely on the other part?

Whatever you put on there has to fit ahead of the ramp? as you have to start the ramp up in order to get the section to fold under??

Not really, it can be on the main tail portion, but there will be instances where it would be necessary to pull forward, fold up the tail, then back up a bit to get the load where you want it. It is not much different than a dove tail on a regular tag trailer, you really don’t use the rear angled portion of the trailer, especially with an excavator.

There will be instances where this new trailer won’t be ideal, but it should cover me for most things that I do. Equipment with tires should be easier to deal with that tracked equipment, but it is easy enough to drive past the hinge point, set the tail, then back up if needed.

Sorry but I can't keep track anymore!

Is the forklift on the trailer the one that the engine you thought would work in won't? Did you sell it or just shuffling?

I was just showing pictures of various things on a regular dove tail trailer for a comparison. That is the forklift (Benson) that needs an engine and might get sold if I can’t find one that will fit.

I took a peek at the hydraulic pony motor setup and it looks like it should come off fairly easy. I also looked at the donor motor and it is a little larger HP, but I can’t imagine going from a 13 to a 16 will be an issue.

When I get done, it will be portable for future uses.

I am almost feeling motivated, 27 degrees outside, basically already warmer than all of yesterday, we are shooting for a hot day in the mid 30s. In fact that would normally feel great, except last week we had two days in the 50s and almost 60s here, so it just feels blah to be in the mid 30s now. :(

I have to take the plow off the Ford, remove the sanders, put the tailgate on, then I can start the real day. At the Salvage Garage, I have five things that need to start, hopefully without any issues. Then I am getting the hydraulic pump off the trailer, after that Benson is going outside since it is clear I won't be putting an engine in it anytime soon, no sense in wasting the shop space. After that I can move a few things around and get the pressure washer out so I can steal the engine out of it for my hydraulic pump project.

On a bad note, the SG is essentially going to be landlocked pretty soon, almost all the roads are posted, so there will be no coming and going as I please with big stuff. I am going to most likely have to put the moving van at the bottom of the Hill. At least the Hill always has good access, that town never posts the roads and 95 has an exit not too far from me. As a preemptive strike on all the curious questions, a posted road means that you can't drive any vehicle registered for over 23k pounds without permission from the local municipality, they do this when the frost starts to come out of the ground so you don't damage the roads. It usually lasts until May. :(

It is always something, the new NEST thermostat at the SG was not functioning as expected. Thought maybe the furnace had an issue, nope, had to reset the thermostat, working now, but I think my main issue is that my internet is constantly on the fritz, going to have to have spectrum send a new modem or something. I got here late, so I decided to eat lunch here and then try and get as much done as possible, it doesn't feel too warm outside, there is a breeze that cuts through you.

I braved it, it wouldn't have been too bad if I had cleared things off yesterday, had to kneel in slush for a while. It sucked because there was one bracket that I just couldn't get to with the torch.

I ended up cutting the diamond plate decking out around it, in the end the frame for the pony motor wasn't even welded to the bracket. :(

About ten years ago...

Now for some better than bad news. The issue with Benson and the engine width may not be as bad as I thought. It looks like I may have measured correctly, but I added instead of subtracting on one part of my equation. I still will need to rework the frame and counterweight, but it doesn't look like I have to cut into the suspension and rework that too. I am going to pull the engine cover off, then try and dangle the engine over the space just to see what things actually look like. I am having no real luck finding the proper engine and I really don't want to try and find another 4x4 forklift, they are hard to come by, at least for a reasonable amount of money.
