I was going to get a plasma cutter, but with the amount of blood donors needed to keep one running I decided a torch was better.

I also got an email back about the plasma cutter that won't do me any good, they told me to refuse the shipment and when they get it back, they would refund my money. I was shocked, but who knows, they may still charge me something, the customer service rep didn't say anything about restocking fees though. I want them to at least charge me for the shipping, regardless, I am ordering the handheld torch I will need as well as any other supplies from them in the future.

I am off like a prom dress at the hotel party after prom....

Not a bad idea. I drove a mobile maintenance/repair truck for a yearish. Setting it up is going to cost BIG.

It really won’t be too bad, I had one setup in the past and basically still have all the stuff. It will take a while to get things where they will work for me. It is also not going to be a winter vehicle.

Come now Kirk, this is Strouty we are talking about. I would be surprised if he didn't have enough stuff around to outfit 2 service trucks. :lol_hitti

Yes, same truck, this one happens to be a 2002 GMC with the fancy grill and headlights. I am going to make it look pretty and run well. Unfortunately the engine is in pieces all throughout the truck, this is also the second one I have had that has almost no rust, except the floors are rotted out just inside the rocker. Should be a relatively easy repair, especially since I have a few solid donor trucks.

I am headed to the SG now to drop off Perk, then I have to drive the Maroon burb home, hopefully the transmission doesn't take a complete dump on the way. As I remember it slips between first and second, but once you baby it past that, it shifts fine again. Tomorrow is going to be an early one, got to beat the frost. ;)

You sure that is a 2002? I thought they switched the HD trucks over to the new body style in 2001.

3500HD trucks kept the old body style through model year 2002, the gas versions had the 8.1 at that point instead of a 454. This is only for these, technically a P series chassis that was rated at 15k GVW, essentially an F-450, but GM flavored. I will be making it a 4x4 eventually, it will be a mixed breed, with F-550 front and rear axles. ;)

Getting lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, one of my favorite non local to me restaurants.

My Saturday trip to pick up the army trailer and loader parts got canceled, going to work on the shop at the Hill instead, I was supposed to do that today.

Big score on the P85. What parts will you be making on it? I know the quality of my projects took a big jump when i started CAD/CNC on them.

I would like to make some simple brackets for the lights that I want to install on the Muv-All trailer, will still need to bend them, but I should be able to make the parts so they are ready to be bent. Then I wanted to make tags for my lifting chains. I am sure other things will pop up, at this point I don’t really know what my capabilities are or how to draw things, so it will be a learn as I go type of process.

It is such a tease that I am at the Salvage Garage with the plasma cutter, but I need to leave. :(

Maybe this weekend I can get to assembling things, definitely next week.

Helped my Brother unload a dump/chip body he bought, his truck is in pieces right now, so we used Perk. I am all worn out, just want to go home, so that is where I am headed now.

I am cleaning at the Hill, just sorted out some hydraulic quick connects that I bought on eBay, lots more stuff to shuffle and put away, going to attempt to get to the SG later this afternoon. I need to start working on auction stuff, two weeks from Monday and I can start bringing it over, Dad has been convinced to take a bunch of stuff as well. There are a few things that I really wanted to be listed prior to the auction, but I may not get to them, I happen to have a lot going on right now.....

Slow going, even though most of this is temporary trying to figure out what goes where still *****.

I am going to try and make enough room to get the Blue Burb inside, then head over to the SG and unload some things, then work on stuff there for a bit, then, well who knows.

I think I only used 6 or 7 drawers today, tomorrow I should be able to get things cleaned up a lot more over the next couple days. We are getting a cold snap on Monday and Tuesday, so I want to try and get inside things done to stay warm. ;)

I took the long way to the Hill trying to find some pallets, got three decent ones, will need more for the auction stuff. It is chilly this morning, supposed to get cold tonight with some possible snow showers. I am pretty well set so that I have lots of inside work to do, that way I can be productive and warm at the same time. ;)

Fingers crossed that the Blue Burb will be back together (and running) today, at this point I can't rule anything out. Once we get it running right, I will do some of the cosmetic stuff and the stereo system, I really don't want to waste my time until it has proven that it can run for longer than a week or two without significant issues. I guess if I keep doing repairs, at some point there won't be anything left to repair, right?

As you know 6.5s can drive you crazy with their weird quirks. Do you have a decent bench seat for a 95 regular cab pickup? Been looking for one up here and can't find anything. Every Bucket truck I've ever had has had the drivers side of the seat ripped up by what I assume is screwdriver in back pocket

I am not sure what the condition of the two seats in the "new" trucks are, but both are bench seats. I will have to take a peek and see, one of them had a seat cover on it, so it is either in really good condition, or really bad condition. ;)

Right now I am just trying to clean off all the flat surfaces, tools are going on top of the tool box or in bins next to it, hardware is getting put away, miscellaneous supplies are being somewhat organized, then the random **** is going into drawers labeled "MISC". I figure having it out from under my feet is better than nothing and I will know what drawers need to be sorted since I labeled them. I still have several empty drawers, I just have to figure out what is going in them, they are all up pretty high now. I can't wait to get another couple sections of the Lista Storage Wall done, won't be until after the auction stuff gets delivered. I have found a few tools that I thought I lost, still missing a couple sockets, but so far I am finding the missing tools as I go.

So, Blue Burb is almost back together, I forgot to put the drain plug in before we put the radiator in and my Buddy assumed that it came with one, well now we can't figure out what is going on, it appears to be blocked off. I am worried that it is some sort of temporary plug, but we are convinced that it is sealed from GM (it’s an AC Delco radiator). Rock Auto says that it doesn’t come with a drain and you have to buy it separately.

Update, we dug at it with a pick for a while and can’t make anything move, at this point it is full of coolant and has been run for about 10 miles, no catastrophic leaks or anything. It does run a bit cooler than before, still making plenty of heat, so not worried about that aspect.

The reason the block heater didn’t work was that it was touching the block and shorting out, luckily it tripped the breaker rather than arcing through my cylinder wall. We changed that out, then changed the crank sensor. It seems to start better after being hot, so that is an improvement. There is a new leak, looks like the range sensor (neutral safety switch) on the transmission is leaking, so I ordered the seal and a new sensor. Going to give it a week or so before I do much of anything but drive it, I don’t want to waste any time fixing things that may not matter.

so I ordered the seal and a new sensor.
I spent yesterday helping a friend sort out an issue he was having with one of his dump trucks. It was throwing a code for excessive exhaust back pressure and had no power. We cleared the code, disconnected the exhaust piping from the turbo and took it for a ride. Had plenty of power but threw the same code. My friend said that he had replaced the exhaust back pressure sensor, so that could not be the issue. I asked him about the sensor and he said he bought it off Amazon for $40 because International wanted $160 for the same sensor. We swapped out the Amazon sensor with an OEM sensor from another truck and the problem code was gone and the truck had all the power he wanted.

Sometimes OEM parts are worth the cost.
Food for thought.

I bought a GM Sensor and seals, some stuff is discontinued, so I have no choice, even then, I try and find the company that made the OEM part rather than finding “OEM quality” (NOT).

Backing into the driveway, steering wheel binds a bit, then snap, broke the air bag clock spring. I also have to address the ABS system, pretty sure the pump is junk. So those are the next couple projects. 😞

Short list for Blue Burb is now longer:

Clock Spring
Change steering wheel
Change climate head
Replace blower motor and resistor
Change wiper blades
ABS fix all issues
Oil pressure switch permanent mount
Range selector on transmission
Test block heater
Radio/speakers
Remove snow tires
Steering stabilizer
Starter and battery cables (this may be the reason for long crank)

Probably more…..

In 35 years of fixing personal cars. One thing has become CRYSTAL clear to me in the past 5 years. Everything outside of OEM is JUNK! I've been maintaining several personal vehicles.... GM, Audi, Mercedes. In EVERY situation, that aftermarket **** fails or ages rapidly. I just did front wheel bearings, brakes & 4 new O2.s on the 08’ H3 prior to the kiddo getting his license.runs like an LS top and stands on its nose now. I don’t like doing things twice.
