No problem.

Blackhawk was using Langenau as a supplier at least as far back as 1926. They made the attache style cases that the Q.D. sets came in, too.

Pic 1 is a zoom on the clasp - in embarrassingly bad need of some restoration! - with the identical Langenau < > Cleveland logo on the box for the Q.D. No. 18-A set in Pic 2.

Thanks for the compliments.

Otg, That turned out nice......Congrats!

At the same time? Or later?

Hard to say, perhaps different suppliers were used at different time periods. The 77L box is from the early 40s and is stamped MBC.

The Bullet box with this set has a different configured latch than the set I posted earlier. No manufacture's name/stamp on the latch or box.

With these boxes, I've noticed two different latch configurations and three different "Nugget" decal configurations. I used to assume that this particular configuration latch set-up and inner decal was used on early production (Bullet style) boxes however, the original tools with his set all have date codes from the 50s.

That's the Langenau <> Cleveland marking. EDIT: Since I have 20's boxes made by Langenau, and CRTDI has an early 40's MBC box, it does mean they were using them interchangeably. That's interesting.

Been adding some wrenches to my early nugget box. Late thirties, not sure who was making these boxes.

Tons of drool worthy Blackhawk being posted. OTG, that latest set you got is beautiful. CRTDI, very interesting latch on that last bullet box you posted. The tools that came in mine are '47 and the box has the Langenau<> Cleveland latch.

This is not a new find. I am posting it because Todd just picked up the MTF version and we've been talking about them, and he can't readily get to his Blackhawk version right now...

Thanks! I was just trying to find this again.

I'm in search of a badge that I could beg, borrow, buy or steal to reproduce for the front of my blackhawk box that is missing this item. Any help or leads are greatly appreciated. You can PM me if you want or post here. I am willing to work out a trade or cash deal if you have any ideas. Thanks guys!.

Eek! That's a "medallion" type badge. Certainly not going to be an easy get.....I have 3, but they're resting comfortably where they belong!

twertsy & Oldtuleguy, yes I did not think it would be easy to get one. My mold maker would be able to mold off an original to cast in another base metal to make a copy. I am currently attempting this with the winged BADGE. Your original would be returned to you unharmed, Of course, I don't expect you to do do these for nothing OR at all! I understand how things can go wrong. Just trying to get things repaired and restored on some of my stuff. I just have to ask because one never knows…

I hope to show an example soon of the winged version as cast.

And yes a 3d scan could work BUT that is not the process we are using in this case. That' beyond my scope.

I had a 3D scanner......it was absolutely horrible. Had to scan in complete darkness and it still only captured about 60% of the object after 3 hours and multiple restarts on an object the size/shape of a golf ball. I'll have to check and see how they're attached but if it's a simple job I'd be willing to help you out. I'll potentially be at the shop tomorrow if it rains like hell tonight, otherwise, I'll be golfing!

I believe that there are materials used in making molds that could be used to take an accurate cast of one of these badges "in place." The original badge would have to be clean and pretty smooth in order to release from the mold, unless a flexible material was used. I have heard of such a material, but cannot identify it.

I such a cast was made, then a sample badge would be made from it, and enhanced to remove imperfections. The resulting sample would be used to make the production mold.

Guys, the mold process is a heavy rubber type. I can't explain it much more that that but it is of a high degree of quality. I've used this company before and they do great work and this guy is willing to do my small run, I just have to be more patient on delivery as it would be tagged onto other castings to facilitate the process. The original winged badge I have is actual stamped, not cast so these new ones won't have the same feel or heft. But I suspect will look the same when installed. I am casting in the screw heads so that one can mount them with an adhesive or drill out the screw heads and put real ones in. Your choice. I'm shooting for something that is better than nothing first, before I get picky and start comparing it to the original and if you can tell the difference. As far as I know there is no "concours de elegance" for the blackhawk toolbox line.…AS YET! :)

You better have a look at Ebay. Lately, Blackhawk tools are selling for prices that would make them the Concours d'Elegance of the tool world.

They have two threaded posts in the rear, and small nuts holding them on. Email me your address and I'll send you one for testing. [email protected]

Well, I'm extremely disappointed. I thought I was fully prepared for the moment I finally secured a bomb box. Sadly, I'm missing 1 piece, 35112 3/8" socket. If anyone can assist with an extra, I'd appreciate it!7bf25f633f1fb7f189fb41274969f6dc.jpg

Nice set Todd! I don’t have the socket you’re missing but I’m always on the hunt for 7/16 drive as I’m missing more than one. I’ll add that to my look for list and let you know if I find it. What’s the date on the pieces?

Not half as sorry as I am for opting for a coffee refill before completing the purchase on that bomb box!

For those of you not aware of the story, I missed this thing literally by seconds. lol

Woah. That's on the brink of idolatry. Just kidding, it tells a story, right? I'm sure it will be in someone's shop by the end of the week. [emoji38]_hitti
Wish it were an advert piece for hand tools. If so, the wallet would be emptied. While I have several Jack's, I'm not inclined to pay that for it. That's a piece that belongs in Don Long's shop!

Agreed. And it's sold, so we may soon find out!

In today's PC world, a tool company would never get away with a totem pole jacks display unit like that without catching a whole bunch of social media flak!

If it is worth the money, which it obviously was, why object to a reserve auction?

Cant explain it really RJ, but it's like walking up to a table at the flea to someone selling sockets for $20 each...........all you can do is shake your head and move on.
