It's funny to see you say you couldn't find it. The main purpose of the other Sticky was explicitly to help prevent that. It contains an A - Z List of links to popular threads to make them easier to find no matter where they are.

As for whether the Blackhawk thread should be a Sticky or not, that's not really for me to say, is it? I'm just one of many users. And you're a Supermod!

If you're asking for my input on it, I will say that I find it odd seeing it as a sticky, because it's just one of several of the most popular threads on the Vintage Board, and among those, not even the most popular.

Hence my curiosity about the rationale.

was thoroughly surprised/ excited to have found 6 Blackhawk sockets this weekend, even better was getting home and finding the GMC engraved on the sides of the 4 3/4 drive sockets (someone really spent their time too)... second pic is before and after cleaning, pic 3 is the 4 GMC engraved sockets, pic 4 was all 6 together (and yes one was engraved simply "UP")

Excellent grab. That 1 3/8ths double hex socket really saw some heavy use.

Nice. Late 30s or 40s, if you were wondering. Guessing 40s as the drive opening is not scalloped. Are they plain steel finish? Are they date coded? It would be a "-#", e.g., "-5" placed just to the right of the branding.

Boy howdy did they ever and had fun doing it. Some owners markings manage to enhance or at least complement rather than mar vintage tools. I would include those in that category even though they're imperfect and inconsistent. The pride and passion are there.

I worked in a shop with a guy named George Michael C______. He made an electrode of a Chevy Bow Tie with neat GMC initials in it and burned (edm'd) it on some of his tools. It was actually pretty cool.

Walker steel horse jack stands circa 1940s. I resorted about half dozen of them already.

Agree on Walker jack stands. I think somebody on this site restored S-4 and 2 of those jack stands. It's been a while - I think they were cherry red. Don Long?

Jobber? I just made contact with the last blackhawk pres before they sold to Kansas jack then Snap-on. I'm hoping that he has some good publications that I can get copies of.

It's move in day for my Red Rover stack. As I was building complete sets, I found myself with a healthy supply of odds and ends. This is box #1 freshly emptied into their new home. Once I get everything moved over, I will go through and put things in proper order. This rig will be put into light service on all future junk adventures.

Some of you may have seen me post the following to @MR.X earlier this morning in the Snappy thread, just because it happened to be the latest thread he posted in.

Hey, curiosity question. What is the source of your username? Marvel character? Resident Evil character? Just common term for mystery man? Or vintage tools related? I know, you've been here since 2010, and we've had many, many exchanges, why ask now. I was doing some vintage tools research, ran into some funny literature that I had completely forgotten about, and I want to see if you already know about it and just never mentioned it, or if I'm going to make your day.

He PM'd me, and while I enjoyed his answer, what I am about to post was not his inspiration.

I think I'm about to make his day.

This is a special booklet that Blackhawk published in 1942.



I forgot it had it. I was doing some research on tool company marketing mascots. When I remembered the Mechlins and started paging through it again, I almost fell off my chair.

Note that all of the Mechlins are wearing OD green mechanics coveralls except one, in a tuxedo, cape, and top hat.
