Cant explain it really RJ, but it's like walking up to a table at the flea to someone selling sockets for $20 each...........all you can do is shake your head and move on.

I have personally witnessed the Twertsy backlash for those who ask ridiculous prices for tools at flea markets. :fawk::Violent:

I'm waiting in a parking lot in Ft. Worth, TX for another S4 jack pickup. I have the high ground covered.

Awesome! And still has a lens....

You must be the king of S4 jacks by now. How many are in your collection?

Does anyone have any information on the BlackHawk model S3 jack? This one belonged to by great-grandpa and has performed faithfully until recently. I am hoping to restore it, but can't find any rebuild kits or info.

Somewhat, it's pretty common to find them missing or just painted over.

(4) S4 with lights.

You gotta show off that line up....

See post #229 for some 1934 ad info here:

Don't know how lucky you'll be finding an "off the shelf" kit for this jack however, you might try contacting this company for some assistance:

Good luck with your restoration...

I hadn't considered it before but powder coat is a more durable finish.
It may not be as shinny as the automotive paint job that i get on my stuff but mine is all show.

so with that said I'd think powder coat if you plan on using the jack would be the better option

here is my next Blackhawk project.
I saw this board on Ebay and bought it
Then the set of punches showed up so I got them
So I'll be cleaning and painting this week while waiting for the board to arrive

Nice snag on the board and punches. I'm sure they'll be on display in short order...

Vintage 3/8" drive Blackhawk stuff is tough to find and collect. You're coming along nicely!...

I've got a fairly complete 1950s 3/8" set ready to go, but I cant seem to come up with a nice box for it.

Logically, it should be scarce. Judging by Blackhawk literature, 3/8-inch drive should be as scarce as 1/2-inch drive. Obsolete, even, with everyone using 7/16-inch drive instead! A world of Nuggies and Nuggets. :)

Should have my missing 3/8 socket coming. Snagged a whole set of "3/8" drive (really 7/16) off eBay cheap this morning.

My very small collection of 3/8” drive Blackhawk. I have others marked “New Britain” I believe. They are identical to this style.

The new britain stuff is taller and no date codes, but otherwise very similar in appearance.

I spent the day cleaning up the punches. I disassembled the porto power and polished the oil plugs and handle and blasted the ram and removed all the dings in it. Both the ram and pump will be painted tomorrow.
I expect to see the display board arrive tomorrow.

Here is the punches and polished pieces sitting in the original case

Normally, I have seen the aluminum framed jacks with some additional web stiffeners on the upper forward side of the rear caster housings. I don't see these on your jack.

This might have been a problem area for theses jacks with the aluminum side plates. If that's the case, you might have an early production aluminum framed S4.

A little work on the S4 today. Return springs came in from McMaster Carr. The new springs are 8" but they have more turns then the original. I would have rather had a size closer to 13/16" then 3/4". Should i try and remove the rust from the cylinder?

Jack was very low on fluid and after filling it raises and lowers just fine. I'll see in the morning if it has a leak.

Um, Chief Wahoo was smiling, too. After almost 30 years of protest, intensified in the last three, the Cleveland Indians just removed the logo from everything. And dozens of other sports teams and corporations are the subject of similar protest and controversy. Regardless of right or wrong, neither of which I am arguing here in this post or on this forum, there is no way in hell that image would ever be originally designed and used today for the marketing of tools or anything else. Most Blackhawk marketing would be suspect. For me, that obvious politically incorrect aspect, by today's standards, adds to the collectibility.

Indeed. The native American community frowns upon everything from cigar store Indians to our beloved blackhawk mascot.

On to something that actually matters.......

My 7/16" drive set arrived today. Not only did I fill my 3/8 socket hole and complete my bomb set, but there were 2 3/8 sockets, which mad another complete set. Happy as a clam for $60!0c7fb7775dc8842d4198146d92226b44.jpg

I can finally contribute to this thread. I just picked up this awesome set at a yardsale for $25! All Blackhawk except the stud puller, which is a Walden, the seller said it was his dads from the 1950's. All in great working condition.
