Nice setup JB, I have often considered adding storage to my 60gal upright. I built a "black pipe dryer" for my setup, and even in our humid summers I can paint without any issues.

Outlaw,
Thank you, I'm partial to it as well, not as polished and pretty as some setups, but relatively easy on the budget when spread out over a few months. The black pipe dryer your refer to is that simply long runs of pipe before entering the main header?

Wow JB, that is some big time air!!! I like your set up! And the names!!!

Joe

Thanks Joe, I will let you know how I like it when I get a little time using it with the blast cabinet. Maybe I need to get my potato cannon back out and dust it off. :)

JB,

Here is a picture of what I built. I have only had moisture come out of the second drop 1 time. All 1/2" pipe, it's mounted "off" the wall for airflow, and I put a fan in front of it during heavy use.

All,
I received my hydraulic hoses in the mail yesterday, ordered Tuesday morning and received Thursday. Great shipping speed from all the way in New Jersey via usps! Now if only I could figure out why my receipt online was $11 less than what they actually charged, that irked me a bit. I installed them this morning:

I think its a refund, so you can purchase baby wipes to clean the oil off your face. If the need should arise again!:yikes::lol:

That red on the ketchup tank, almost looks professional?:dunno:

JB, we all make mistakes. Its takes a man to admit them and honestly I enjoy listening to them. I said a long while ago on my thread I was gonna post the good, bad and the ugly. Its not always nice, neat and clean. We screw up, we make mistakes, we do stupid things. Our threads take people on a journey and through that journey we all become friends and poke fun at each other. JB, I enjoy your thread, I enjoy your honesty, and look forward to your posts.

Nice looking setup there Outlaw, I'm glad it performs so well for you too.

I wouldn't have minded it if was $11 off, but they charged me $11 more than the original receipt. I asked about it and they said it was because the hoses wouldn't fit in the medium flat rate box and they had to use the large. Oh well I guess.

Professional, nah just high gloss! :pimpflash

Thanks Taumac, I'm sure I'll have many more mistakes and will even share the ones pertinent to garage safety. I'll have more to come but am in a waiting game for parts now. I'm about to be able to hang the gas tank in Herb's Hearse.

All,
Downtime is never good, I start getting ideas like buying a 2500 GM truck to snag the 6.0 LS and 4L80E trans to put in the Trailer Park Edition Barbie Dream Car, and I have a spare turbo from the B.B.B. laying around too.

Good to hear cause I know I can't be the only one that's ever been outside in the garage in a T-shirt and shorts flip-flops no gloves welding and grinding on stuff. Hot ambers flying all over. One drops on your foot and you start hopping around trying to get it from burning your foot and more important burning a hole through your good flip flops. After 2nd time you think well maybe all go put shoes on but say "F" it and I'll just be more careful which includes stepping farher back so ambers won't hit your feet. LOL

Nope, never have I ever done that, never used a grinder in short and burned a hole in them either. I also don't have socks with burn holes in them from weld embers hitting them because I was wearing shorts either. I've also never gotten poison ivy on my hands and taken a leak.

Oh wait, yes I have, I won't do that again!

Oh wait, yes I will, but I'll try not to. lol

I guess you don't drink when you weld?

I DO!!! I have to hydrated. It also helps cold down the 3rd° burn you got on your hand from grabbing a piece of metal you forgot was hot. LOL!!!

A bottle of water on and keeps you hydrated also helps put out the flames from the paint or material you caught on fire. LOL!!

Herb,
I'll have a few drinks from time to time, but just water or Gatorade when welding or other dangerous tasks where I need to have my head in the game.

Taumac,
That brought back another memory, one of the first things I welded was back in high school. I was working on a go cart with a friend and we needed to weld a bolt on. Welded it out, pulled off my welding glove and grabbed the bolt to see how strong the weld was. :shocking:

Yep don't do that again!

Still waiting on some gas tank isolation material to show up before I can make any further headway on Herb's Hearse. In the mean time I have been working on installing the lighting for the lift permanently. I won't spoil the surprise just yet, but it will be pretty cool when completed.

Now it is story time...
Last week we noticed a few lights in the house weren't work, the HVAC was acting up and none of the 220 in the house would work. I did some troubleshooting and determined 1 of the two feeds into the house was dead, 0 volts! That mean half of the breakers in the breaker box were dead and nothing on 220 was going to work. I still had full power to the W.H.H.H. so I knew something was bad between the pole where the power split off and the house. On the other leg I actually had 134 volts which is higher than is allowed. The next morning the power was back on and fine both legs right at 130 volts. However that night while sleeping it went off again.

Here are the splices in question:
attachment.php

The red circle was the bad connection, the green arrow goes to the shop, the yellow arrow to the house, and the other line is the feed from the transformer.

I called the electric Co-op to come check everything out on their end. Turns out the transformer was bad and was feeding 136 volts per leg to our property! :shocking: That could have been bad and was getting to the point where things start to fry. Luckily the only casualties were possibly some CFL bulbs which are being replaced with bright white LED's. :bounce:

Well good news is now I was getting 122 volts on each leg which is great. The bad news was I was still having power issues. I knew an electrician was going to be crazy expensive and I didn't know if there were even any that had a bucket truck or the ability to climb the pole in this area.

Luckily I have a lot of brothers and the one that lives the closest is actually a lineman and has his climbing gear!

attachment.php

He stopped by the house yesterday can got right to it. In no time at all he had everything back up and going, he seemed satisfied with the outcome:

attachment.php

Here is the bad connection:

attachment.php

Yep I need to clean my desk, but we are back in business and I can't express enough my gratitude for his assistance.
:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

Lastly the HVAC was still having some issues about not coming on when it is supposed to, I think I found the fault, ordered the part and replaced it, it was called a limit switch with a temperature setting. Don't know why, but it was replaced without pictures and is working now as well.

Feels good to be back to normal again.

JB

Well done JB, that was a Relatively easy fix!

Bob,
It was really easy for me to fix, I just had to make the call, run and grab a few things from the W.H.H.H. and watch him work. Then the "pain" of spending $30 for his gas. Yep it was well worth it, no telling how much I would have had to pay someone else. Now it is time to start thinking about some underground feed lines.

Thanks 1/2, of anyone I know that follows this thread I would have guessed you'd be the most familiar with what I was dealing with. He had some tools with him that were very fancy and expensive. I couldn't talk him out of them though sadly. :(

Lineman for a brother. Wow are you lucky! Do you have another who is a dentist?

Good job on the diagnosis and not just waiting for something to give. Keep it up and we're going to have to start liking engineers. Some. A little.

Andy,
I'm lucky to have some talented brothers outside of their normal jobs, but sadly no dentists. I have this one who is a lineman, two that are math teachers, one who gets me discounts at Lowes from 4 states away if needed, and the "baby" who starts college this summer. He plans to go for engineering and maybe even the oil industry :shocking: so keep an eye out I may have a helper in a few years.

So speaking of brothers, I've mentioned one of them is rebuilding a '68 Camaro and the baby bought a '66 Mustang. The one with the Camaro is also a math teacher and a fellow teacher asked if he and the baby would be willing on rebuilding her deck, she would pay material and just a little labor but also GIVE him a '65 Mustang. I could handle that for a weekends worth of work. He is also the same brother who falls into a cow patty and finds $100 and comes up smelling like a rose. I know he will have a buyer if he decides to sell it though. :pimpflash

JB, just for your info, a repair like that here would be a Power co responsibility.

Any thing before what is deemed the point of supply is on them

Regards

1/2,
I almost thought the Power co would have taken care of that when they had their bucket up their but I guess not. Our break-off point is the meter, before the meter is on them, after the meter is on us. This repair was the first junction after the meter.

All,
I had to make a little plate to mount a switch one that required drilling and tapping for 6-32 socket head machine screws, first one went fine, second one I broke the tap in the hole and couldn't get it out. I tried everything I could think of with no luck. So I tossed it in the scrap bin and made a new one, ground off the tap to a new point and actually was able to tap the holes this time. The paint is drying and I'll have photos soon. I hate keeping you all in suspense, but the wait will be worth it I promise.

A lot of places there is no overhead feeder past the meter, but it is quite common around rural areas. Like JB said the power company just won't touch anything on the customer's side of the meter. So his pole, which is looking for retirement, will be his responsibility to replace. Life with personal responsibility!

I've got to get up and reattach my yard light some day...

Your warmer is potentially as hazardous as JB's.:scared:

We need to get JB a security camera so we can all enjoy future uh-oh's. Maybe there won't be any. Nah...

I actually have 3 cameras that will record video, my phone, a little Cannon I think that I don't use very often, and a 720p HD video camera that hasn't been used since my wedding. The thing is when adventures happen I usually don't expect them. Perhaps that security camera Andy mentions below would be a good option but then ya'll wouldn't leave me alone. However, I am sure I could make it onto America's Funniest Home Videos.

Wow! Thanks for the offer! When can he be here?

If you want I can talk to him about it and see what he says, as long as the pole is solid it shouldn't be too hard.

Sadly internet enabled cameras are out of the question for me, we are limited to 10 GB a month at home on satellite and I'm sure that would be eaten up in a few minutes if all ya'll watched the adventures at the W.H.H.H.

All,
I have the reveal ready but didn't have time to load the video onto YouTube before work, I'll get that uploaded tonight and post a link. I'll also take photos of the detail and let ya'll see the entire operation now even if the shop is a MESS. Also I have a horse trailer in the shop now, it belongs to a friend and is in need of lots of patching and repair to make it road worthy again.

Although I was joking, if he'd like to bring his wife I would sure make her a broom while he is climbing around.

And give her a ride in your award winning truck???? That might be the deal breaker as long as you don't ask is she has a caboose too.

JB, glad your power problem isn't pucked up anymore.:D

The suspense is now over, here is the big reveal. I had the lights under the lift working, but they were temporarily wired for about 4 month.:eyecrazy: I came up with my wiring scheme:
View media item 67608
I bought all the necessary parts, installed a lot of conduit, elbows, junction box/2 gang box, and ran the power overhead and down the lift column:
View media item 67604
Here it is all wired up and ready to test:
View media item 67605
The key to the installation is this limit switch:
View media item 67606
It is wired in the normally open position so the lights won't come on unless that switch is depressed. You also have to have the switch on the column turned on. This way if I lower a vehicle the lights will automatically turn off and I don't have to worry about forgetting them. Also if I leave a vehicle in the air the switch can be flipped to run them off.

Here is the lift column about 18" (.5m) off the floor just about to trigger the limit switch:
View media item 67607
Here is the lift column in the fully up position:
View media item 67602
I didn't have much room to work with and with the columns and lift columns both rolled I had even less room. Add to that the very small holes in the switch 6-32 was the largest bolt I could install that is about 1/8" (3.2mm). Also the holes on the switch were so close to the edge I couldn't mount it on the column without this bracket I made. (Painted in a hurry to get it operational, also temp wiring from the switch wiring to the limit switch.) Once installed I'm glad I measured as much as I did, it just barely fit but fits like a glove:
View media item 67603
I also made this video for your viewing pleasure: RTP 10 Light Video

That is all for now, still waiting on fuel tank strap liner for Herb's Hearse and will get it moving along in the next couple days.

Nice work on the lights! How have they been working out for you? My fear was that they may be in such a position as to be blinding. I'm curious to hear about your experience.

The light switch is just classic, clever JB.

Side story on IP based security systems. I was at work one day and wanted to check my home security system. I forgot and left the app running for an hour. It used 6GB of data in one hour and maxed by monthly LTE data plan. 6 concurrent streams of 1080p will do that to you. (however the app is clearly pretty dumb) Now I use a substream and only connect when on wifi.

JohnnieMo,
Thank you, the lights have been working pretty good so far, they help a ton, but could be brighter, I made the cans big enough to where I could mount 20w LED flood lights if I so choose, but will not likely do that until one of these stops working. The 10w lights are too bright to look at directly, but just so long as I don't look into the sun it is fine. If I go with the 20w in the future I'll scuff up the covers to diffuse the light a bit more.

That is a lot of data real quick. I figure one day we will all talk about data like we used to talk about minutes but for now I'm pretty limited all in all.

Talk about limited on data. I only have 10 gigs a month so I have to severely limit my internet time during the day. The period between 2 AM and 8 AM is free so that is when I have to upload to my thread. Dish is a rip of I think but when that is the only show in town what are you going to do.

I'm right there with you, 10gb on my home internet, and 15gb for phones shared between 5 people. No fun, but luckily after 10bg at home they just cut it WAY back, can hardly open photos with it even.

I just haven't felt like spending the money on something I don't "need" just yet. When the time comes that is what I will do though.
