Thanks for jumping back in bonecrrusher, I truly do appreciate the kind comments, that is the reason I keep posting, it also give me encouragement to keep at things. I seem to go in spurts, I'll fly through 2-3 projects in a day or two, then will spend a month or two on the next one. Or in the case of Herb's Hearse a year and 3 months. Speaking of Herb's Hearse I've got some progress to report on as well as a horse trailer I'll try to get uploaded today.

The other day I was talking to my good friend Alex when he asked me if I would take a look at his horse trailer. I said of course, I knew it needed some work but was in workable condition as is but had gotten worse when and unruly horse decided it would rather be out than in. His wife was headed back from Kansas and dropped it off. Turns out the part that was broken was cast and I don't have the equipment to fix it. However, I asked if they would like me to take care of some of the rust on the front and fix the lights, none work working.
Wow that got bad fast. The previous owner decided to use bondo to "fix" the rust:
I used some more of the stove cover that was included with the stove Andy (OidIronFarmer) had gotten me, and made 1,000's of tack welds:
It had similar problems on the sides:
And repaired:
Just to let everyone know I didn't cut out the metal underneath and know this won't be a permanent repair and the owners know this and are fine with it, they just didn't want the roof to blow off while hauling it on the interstate. I then rewired the lights and it is ready to be picked up, good news is that I was waiting on parts for Herb's Hearse so I didn't actually loose any time on that. I was waiting on this black rubber insulation tape to cover the tank straps and top of the gas tank:

It worked really well even if it wasn't all that sticky even after being inside the house for 24 hours. Nonetheless I was now able to install the tank and finish the last of the fuel lines:

Done and dusted. I'm now waiting on some hose for the filler neck. I forgot to mention I also replaced a section of the wire for the tank level sending unit as the insulation was shot. I'm glad I did that before installing the tank.
Up next will be setting the timing and installing the filler neck for the last time hopefully.

you have the rubber seal that goes between the fill neck and the body (fender). I'm pretty sure I put that in the box?

Are you going to the Sunflower swap meet this weekend? I have a stress test on Friday, not sure how I will feel after that. The Dr's office is close to the swap meet. I'll def try and go on Saturday. You get the best stuff if you are there first on Fri, but sometimes you get the best deals on Sat, if they don't want to load it up and take it back home with them. I hope we can meet up and wonder around and look at stuff.

Yes I do have the seal and it is installed, I thought I mentioned that earlier, but may have mis-remembered.
I don't know if I'll make it or not, Friday is open, and I hadn't planned on taking it off but I may just have to. Saturday doesn't look too promising though. I'll let you know if I end up going.JB

Thanks, I'm happy it all worked out how I planned it last June. That has never happened to me before, usually things don't work out so well. LOL

Nothing too exciting going on just yet, I have been doing some fine tuning on Herb's Hearse. I'm still waiting on one more elbow to finalize the fuel system. I love being able to shop online but waiting on a slow boat from china gets old at times. It is scheduled to arrive today however.
I have also been working on the ignition system as well. When Herb and I tried to start it a week or so ago the distributor spun about 180°. I never messed with that part so you can't blame me. I found this instruction manual online for his engine and it came in handy. Points gapped to .016", plugs gapped to .040", and timing set as best I could for the time being. I may have to advance the timing a little but won't know until we try to start it again.
Next up is bleeding the brakes and adjusting them. Then as long as it fires and runs I'll hand it back over to Herb.

What was the cast part broken on the trailer? Did they buy a new piece?

The hinge support on the back door was the cast piece, it is welded to a 1.5" square tube, the square tube is what is actually broken. Their farrier's boyfriend is a professional welder and he said he could do that part, for pay... So to save them money I took care of the rest.

Get video on the lights... can you image the reveals you can do with those? Especially, with Herbs herse.

I thought about that, if I could debut Herb's Hearse by having him start it up in the dark, then transition into some classical music that hits the end of the crescendo just as the lights turn on. By the way thanks for subscribing my channel, you are the first! I've had my account for 8 years now and posted 4 videos, so in 8 more years I'll have 8 videos and 2 subscribers. That is when the big time internet money starts rolling in. LOL

I found my new shop manual for the hearse, its even got pictures you need it?
I can't remember if I drained the oil, and didn't refill it? you might want to check BEFORE it gets running.
Went to part of the swap meet, made myself go. Just didn't feel all that good after the stress test on Thursday. The only thing I bought was a Mopar, Direct Connection plate, and the frame on it says something HEMI on it.
OK let me know if you need that manual.

Good choice on the music, the only thing is I technically can't do anything copy written for the music. Nope not a big welder/generator, although that is on my wish list.
It wouldn't mind having the manual, I think I have everything ready to give it a shot at starting again, I even put oil in it a couple of months ago.
I didn't get to make it to the Sunflower Swap Meet, I wanted to take the whole day off but ended up having to work from 4 something AM to almost 7 PM. I slept pretty good that night, but then had to return on Saturday for some more free overtime and worked until 6 PM.
Hopefully the stress test didn't stress you out too much! If all goes well I'll try to take all of Friday off if you want to come out and try to start it up with me.

I completely agree, I haven't had enough time for fun in too long. I did get a few minutes this morning to clean off my bench at least and that made me feel better about myself.
Okay so my too big of purchase, I didn't plan this and didn't expect to pay what I did but in a good way. In the end I think it'll help out.

So the story goes like this:
On Super Bowl Sunday I has relaxing for a few minutes when someone honked outside. The gentleman in the truck asked if I'd considered sealing the roof on my shed. Well of course, but I haven't thought I could spare the money at this point in time. He said he could coat the entire outside with a tar based paint for 18!
I politely declined and said I had more work to do hammering in nails and installing screws before I could justify the cost, as well as seal up some holes. He then haggled a bit and said he would screw every sheet down as I'd done on the other side of the roof and patch the holes as well as spray everything for a much more reasonable price. I accepted and came home Sunday night to this:

So now just to wait until the next rain storm to see how it holds up, time will tell. I'm pretty excited to have this much more under control for the time being.

Thanks Andy, Sadly the dust will still be pretty bad because of the gaps at all of the door and if we ever get a gully washer water will still run in from the door openings but we don't get those tooooo often. That can be cured with some grading and drainage work eventually. Now if I could just get some free time from work...

Thank you, and I sure hope so too, it came with a 5 year warranty but who knows how much the warranty is worth anymore anyway. We will see how much cooler it is, I never really thought about that with it being winter and all.

We painted the roof of my father-in-law's building with similar stuff. Worked out pretty good for sealing it up. Went on brown and dried silver.
