All,
On Friday I got the phone call that my grandmother was not likely to make it much longer. I made the 8 hour drive and was able to see her for a few hours before she passed. She was 92 and lived a full life nearly up to the end. I'll always remember many good times like drinking Pepsi and eating peanut butter and crackers when we stayed with them during the summers.

Funny story she would always remind me of when we talked. She watched my older brother and I when my twin brothers were born. I apparently didn't like that and at one point threw a toy tractor at her and hit her in the face.

She will be dearly missed:

Really sorry for your loss. Grandma's are so special. Mine's 95, and my only grandparent left. We got to hang out with her while on vacation this summer, but since my family now lives far away, saying goodbye had me questioning whether I might actually be saying goodbye.

Good reminder to get the kids on skype more often and to say hugs and "I love you's" to all the folks who matter.

Glad you had a good one.

Not what I expected when I checked in this afternoon

So sorry to hear the news. Family means everything and when one member goes home the rest of us feel the loss.

Just wanted to offer my condolences too. Both of my grandmothers are gone, but I have wonderful memories of both. Those never go away.

JB: sorry to hear about your Grandma passing. she's not much older than my parents and i know it will be a sad day when they go. I still hear my old Gramps telling me stuff from almost 60 years ago and he's been gone for over a decade now.

best of luck with the rodent issues and I don't expect you to train any copperheads, but if you want to read about a member finding a couple and making pets out of them while he's rebuilding a helicopter hanger here's the link:

I think he found the snakes last month if you don't want to read the entire thread.

Thank you all very much for your support and thoughts in this tough time. She was put to rest this past Thursday beside my grandfather. She will be missed and not forgotten.

I did make back to the house this weekend to get a few things done around the house.

Herb,
I know it has been tough for us to get a chance to meet up, but call anytime you think might work, I should be free each day this week after work. I started it up Sunday and took it for a little spin, you might want to just come down for a spin to see if you want to just drive it back. :)

Getting closer to Oklahoma

Hope to hit Andy’s by tomorrow some time.

Hopefully we can meet up tomorrow, if nothing else I'd like to say hi on your way past.

As I mentioned before the turbo in B.P. 2.0 wasn't building any boost which caused it to run in limp mode and very poorly at that. I discovered the wires and they were deep in the harness. In fact they were in a location that was nearly impossible to reach without removal of the harness and many of the components off of the top of the engine. After about 3 hours I had them exposed enough and was able to make the repair and put it back together, this was taken mid-repair:

Next up, one of the things on my to do list was to install new hinge pin bushings on the tail gate of my wife's Jeep and a new Smittybilt tire carrier. The pin bushings are a "non-serviceable" item and new hinges are expensive and come unpainted. She made the decision to buy aftermarket serviceable pins and bushings that are also grease-able which would eliminate the need for paint. They went in with little fuss following the directions which was a novel concept. Next the tire carrier, it took way longer than I expected but was easy enough but again reading the direction, which were terrible, and taking my time to make sure everything fit:

You might wonder why not tire, well the lug studs they provided were too small to press into the holes on the mounting plate, they spun freely. :headscrat I re-installed the third brake light and will hope they make it right with the correct parts to make it work so I don't have to do it myself.

Next up Alex came out with his '68 Mustang determined to fix his brake light issue that has plagued him since installing the power brakes a year ago. What would happen is he would hit the brakes and the light would come on, then go back off unless he was pushing hard enough the tires were about to lock up. He replaced the switch once, seen here:
attachment.php

That didn't work, he tried 2-3 other things he'd read online to really no change. We talked through what we thought was happening and I became convinced the spring in the switch was too powerful actually pushing the push rod to the brake booster hard enough to open the contacts on the switch. I did some digging and found out there were different spring rates depending on power or manual brakes. Yep he had the manual brake switch installed and replaced it with a manual brake switch as well. :( He picked up the right one and the problem is solved now, woo hoo.

Last on the list I will be taking my grand mother's Buick Rendezvous on a trip back to my see my parents in a couple of weeks taking my daughters and a niece to a play. I have suspected the thermostat was stuck open for a while and even purchased one only to find out it wasn't a 10 minute job so it was put off. Now that I need the car for a long trip it was time to install it. While working down to it I found this:

Huh, might be the OEM air filter. :lol_hitti I'll try to remember to get a photo of where the thermostat was located but it was also about an hour job to get to it. I'm doing a full fluid, filter, and flush while I have it in the shop so it'll be tomorrow before it is done.

JB

*EDIT* I also replaced the passenger exhaust flange gasket on Lil' Blue and it ran great on my way in this morning! :3gears:

We may well be running through your town on the way back down.

Will make an effort to meet up, even just to say hello.

Missed you here Grizz, I sure hope so, I'll message you (on FB) my phone number if that would be easier to call. Say high to Andy for me.

It was a good feeling getting something back right again Dan, play time after work will be fun too.

All,
I also forgot to mention I tried to check the AC in my grandfathers red truck. It wouldn't hold a vacuum for any time, I put in some fluorescent dye to find what was leaking...still couldn't find it. :headscrat

Did you skip a step there? Put the dye in, then put a small charge in to have something to blow the dye out? Wish i was closer, i'd come fix it for ya.

You're welcome JB. Yeah, it's really tough to see our loved ones when they're on their way out. I try to remember them in their younger, more robust days.

I completely agree.

The dye was in with a can of R-134a, so both were charged at once while keeping an eye on the pressure which never climbed much. I wish you were too, AC work is foreign to me and I'm still learning but have been able to fix a few, this one is just not being easy. :(

Dan,
Yes I did, I didn't pull any panels but looked all around them, in the vents and still nothing. I know it went somewhere but can't figure out where.

In other news the Buick is back together and working just fine, as usual I didn't get pictures as I'd mentioned, just slap me maybe that'll help me remember.
