For whatever reason I was much more tired this weekend than normal even sleeping in until 5 or 5:30 both days, then taking a couple hour nap as well. I hope I'm not getting sick. :headscrat

Well the weather and work both failed to cooperate, it was supposed to start raining at noon on Saturday so at first light I started to mow. When it was time to move the Green Dragon I had a little too much fun sliding it around on the wet grass:
attachment.php

Sunday was about getting a few small jobs around the house done I never could remember to complete, the only one photo worthy was to add bed rails to the top bunk in Cat's room:
attachment.php

I cleaned out the house garage in prep for working the lights over in there only to pick up something sharp without gloves. I bled like a stuck pig, the cut was only .25" long:

Organized a few things and that is about it, pretty low key weekend with only small accomplishments really.

Damn JB , everyone knows your not supposed to use blue masking tape for that-your supposed to use electrical tape...!

I have a bottle of Nitrogen with regulator adapted to a a/c manifold set.
Hook to the low and high side. Start applying pressure and spraying areas with soapy water. I go up to 200psi at times but can usually find the leak prior to that. Saves a lot of time and money (not using Freon). The downside for you would be the bottle. May not be cost effective for the few to
We of use.

I’ve lived in the Richmond area (Ray County) my entire life. I’m 15 miles north of Richmond now. Also have family and friends south of the river.

Yeah you have a point, I don't know that it would be worth buying it, now if I had a way of adapting my argon bottle with a regulator, but then again I don't know that the seals are compatible with argon.

I don't know why but I never really realized the Missouri river was so close to town, their farm was a bit more south and I never remember going up there to visit it.

Thanks again for tagging along.

I know I know, shame on me. :( However, I couldn't find the electrical tape fast enough and the blood was getting all over the place. All better now, I was able to doctor it up with some triple antibiotic and used a Daffy Duck bandage, at least it wasn't a princess bandage. :lol_hitti

Sorry for being so quiet lately, I've been jumping around more than a one legged man in a **** kicking contest with work but it appears as though the stars are aligning and I'll get to have my weekend mostly free other than yard chores. Saying that I really haven't done anything at/on/near the shop recently.

Herb, did come over to pick up his hearse, started right up, ran fine, drove fine, didn't stop as well as it had previously though. :headscrat Loaded on his trailer and we started to strap it down when he said he saw a brake fluid drip. Sure enough there was a fitting on the master cylinder that was leaking when you pressed on the brake pedal. Not a fitting for a line but one installed from when purchased new a couple of years ago. I tried to tighten it but it didn't seem to make any difference. :wtf:

We talked it over and decided to unload it and let me try to fix it again, hopefully once and for all. The brakes on this car are very frustrating, I will win though and get it solved!

I wanted to let everyone know I am still kicking, I think I have Herb's Hearse ready to bleed the brakes when I can get a helper out there. ;) It went pretty easy but we shall see, if it doesn't seal up with the new plug I'll have to pull the master cylinder all of the way out to get a closer look at what is going on. Nothing really photo worthy on that.

In other news I am still mowing the yard weekly and we are still nearly 90°F for highs here. :headscrat Along those lines the pear and pecan trees are loaded up and sagging pretty hard, good time to trim them up so Saturday I spent about 3 hours doing just that and making a very healthy burn pile. Sunday I took out some trees that just weren't making it, way too much rot, but will now burn in a nice big fire.

Lastly I went to leave for work this morning and my car wouldn't start and only randomly would catch on one cylinder. I popped the hood and found out why:
attachment.php

Yep in less than 20 hours of not driving a rat had chewed three of the 4 plug wires. Sadly those are the same 3 that were chewed on from the previous set. Looks like I need to get a few more. I also checked BP 2.0 to find a small nest, I added a few more blocks of rat poison and will try a few more little tricks I heard, otherwise it is time to find some owls to start training. This is getting old!

First owls, and now gators, pretty soon I'll need a Steve Irwin (May he rest in peace) to train me on how to approach my own vehicles.

JB: I wish you the best with your rodent or chupacabra issue and I still think a few cats might be your best bet even if you lose a few to the upper food chain.

speaking of Chupacabras last fall I think it's raccoons, but others here mentioned the mythical creature cause it ripped up my 7 year old lawn like it was in sand in the middle of the night. it took me about a month of sunny days to fix it right.

i'm usually checking in on you to see your doings and sort of recall a PINK JEEP, but I rarely have much to add so keep up the great work and best of luck with the rodents.

I know you are busy, but maybe a side trip with some aluminum or a pie to Andy's might help him get his mojo back?

cheers

Wow Drives, I don't know who or what you ticked off, but they sure did a number on your lawn! Glad it is all back to better now at least. Luckily moles and armadillos are the worst I have to fight and in reality they aren't that bad compared to the general terrain I have to fight.

I do still have the Pink Jeep, or should I say the girls still have their Pink Jeep and still enjoy it, I think this weekend will be time to pull the top off for a little cool but sunny driving.

I am going to try to make a trip down Saturday if I can sneak away from work before it is too late, I was able to get the tires off of some aluminum wheels for him to make some cooler stuff from.

Good that you are making it weekly. I skipped a week (or two this month) and I'm mowing like I missed a month. It's a mess when you get behind.

Funny how my postage stamp sized lawn is still a reference for me, I do prefer to cut it weekly too, or it gets scripuff and also the cut then tears up the grass in an untidy fashion.

You guys can be commended for 2,3,4 hour lawn sessions.

Dwight,
I had to miss a week this summer when I was gone on the HRPT and it rained the entire time. Took 3 weeks to catch up with that one, luckily it stopped raining there for a bit. As much as I dislike the slog I enjoy having a nice (ish) yard and hate playing catch up.

Grizz,
In all honesty I feel like I could stand to mow every 4-5 days when we are getting plenty of sun and rain but just can't do it time wise.

Redwolf,
You could also have your yard bailed and make a bit of money off of the hay.

All,
I'm trying a little experiment, I picked up some dryer sheets and Irish Spring soap and put them in the engine bay of both The Lemon and BP 2.0 for rat control. I also put some of each in the shop in a few spots, time will tell if it helps any whatsoever.

Thank you,

JB

JB, I've been on the Irish Spring soap tryout in the 24x30 garage. One of the people I work with swear by it. And you can get a case of the soap for less than $10...worth the gamble.

Ity has been so dry here this summer that we have only mowed the entire yard twice. There have been a few places we had to hit but no need to mow the dust.

Seems like we have either had monsoons or drought, no middle ground.

Well I should know soon enough, I'm really tired of dealing with them lately and spending the money and time to fix their problems. I only picked up 8 bars for $4, so like you said cheap gamble, even if it fails I have soap for my spring showers now.

Fiest of famine, no middle ground here either. But ours just grows seemingly irregardless of the rainfall.

JB: never heard of Irish Spring killing or sending rats/mice down the road, but maybe it will work.

i know you probably don't want to get a couple feral or wild cats or go to the pet shelter and rescue a few that are on death row, but I still think that is your best option.

we got Cleo at a NO KILL shelter and she was 4-5 years old and nobody wanted her cause of her age, but we don't have many things running around our property or the neighborhood for that matter and I haven't even seen the raccoons lately.

I bought this little fountain for Cleo to drink water from and she loves it. she's almost 8 years old now and is still outside most days from 6am to 10-11pm, but she will come in for a nap or a meal now and then.

Drives,
Cleo is a good looking cat and looks to be a very good companion for y'all. The is the fountain fed fresh water, or do you have to fill it? Either way very neat to see a cat drinking like that.

I'm taking steps now to allow us to get a couple of semi-outside cats if the recent experiments don't pan out. The Irish Spring isn't supposed to kill them from what I've heard but the smell is supposed to drive them away. (Even though the commercial would lead you to believe it draws women in.)

JB: sometimes it's rain water, but during the summer my bride ends up filling it up daily. we turned the bird on the bath to the side a bit and now Cleo sits and rests her chin on it and I bet she drinks from it several times a day. she has a dish with water in it next to her dry and wet food that i bet she hasn't had a drink from in years even though my bride changes the water all the time.

I was going to wire wheel off the rust and put some BLO on the birdbath when i bought it, but I set it there and my cat and bride like it so there it is and unless my bride requests the BLO shine it's there to stay.

best of luck with the Irish spring and yes woman are not RATS hence them maybe liking the smell better.:lol_hitti

I remember using Irish spring in my early 20's, but it really dried my skin so i've been using liquid soap for the most part. we still have a bar of soap in our shower inside a loufa that I use once in a while when i'm really dirty though that smells more like wood than Irish spring.

i like the sound of a few wild cats in your future!!

cheers

Sometimes the rusty look is better than the polished look, and it is much easier to achieve. :) I know you are the official BLO spokesman and I hate to admit this, but I've never used it on anything but is on my to do list eventually.

I used to be an Irish Spring man as well but hated the film it left on the soap dish in the shower.

JB: Yep I should have developed my own brand of BLO (boiled linseed oil) cause I do like it and I know a lot of members and people have been using it more.

that said it works great on old wood tool's handles and wood anything as well as bare steel. you have to keep putting on a coat of it now and again to keep things looking good and keep metal from rusting, but I like it.

I need to post this even if you know it cause you'll need to dispose of a BLO rag (or any rag with stain in it) carefully either in a closed metal bin or hang it to dry. i lay mine out in the drive way and let the rain rinse them and either toss them or use them again if a clean rag isn't needed.

yep that film on our showers and soap bowls felt like it was on my body hence me not using the Irish any more. i did like the look of the soap on a rope and the smell wasn't all that bad though.

enjoy your day and I hope you can make it over to see OldIronFarmer to cheer him up cause i bet he needs some.

cheers

Okay guys, you got me there, instead of soap would you rather I call it dirt and grease remover? Maybe I'll try spraying the engine bay down with diesel, rats don't drink diesel do they? Oh, that is why I shouldn't replace gaskets on the engines, the grease buildup keeps the rats from eating the wires.

Good point on the rags, I've heard of a few on here that have started fires, you can't be too careful with dealing with chemicals.

I hope to make it over too, he sure makes visiting GJ a more pleasurable experience. It is always a learning experience when I go for a visit.

Lonesome Dove soap, better than John Wayne soap, it is rough and tough and doesn't take **** from anyone.

Interesting development on my experiment, I set out the three test subjects on the floor of the shop to see what would happen, well sometime during the day yesterday the two blocks of rat poison completely disappeared. No crumbs nothing, just gone! :shocking:

Good news, the brake booster leak is no longer there and the brake pedal is solid as a rock on the first push. If only you didn't need 44" mud tires to get down my gravel road right now. :3gears:
