But where are the burnout marks??? No videos from inside the car? You aren't really gonna just give us the ole "I fired up the Godzilla Cobra and drove to work today" are you???

Im dyin here Jb.
I did get on it once in first and second, surprisingly no burnout, I have a video but haven't had time to upload it to share, my reaction was genuine as it could have been. In time, but may be next week before I can share it, I gotta get back to work. :)

I'm glad you checked out the Big Horn Canyon recreational area! I grew up just a few miles away from it.......Water skied up and down that river many times. Pretty daunting with the sheer cliff walls, might have even had a few oopsies, but survived. Nice photo's JB!

I had no idea it existed so was a pretty cool surprise, I could see a few pucker factor moments on that river. Ya'll have some beautiful country up there.

Welcome back,

That semi rat rod is awesome. Glad that the cobra is out and about. Tires and Gas are outrageous I don't blame you on the no burnout lol.

While gone I only had to get gas the first week of April, then not again until my trip home 7 weeks later so I have a bit of gas money saved up. Tires even if I felt comfortable paying for more I can't find any for this size, they were 2 of the last 5 available after hours of searching and that was 8 months ago, things haven't gotten any better.

JB, you need to get a set of steelies you can swap on the back in a more standard size...then you can have tire BBQ's (y)

I still have the last set of rims for the car with some pretty new rubber on them, I suppose that would work great for this endeavor. I would hate to have a blow out and destroy the fender though. Time will tell, needs some more break-in miles before then though.

I am glad I stayed with a tire size I can find semi-easy(275/60/15).
I was pretty limited on what I could get that met all of the requirements I had and there are 4 different tires made that fit this size, who knows for how many years they will keep making them but I have them for now. Most are on backorder currently so no intentional long burnouts for me.
Thanks to our chats I am revisiting your last two months.

I am wondering how you plan on getting me into and OUT of that Cobra though.
I don't think you'll have any issues getting into or out of the cobra, there is surprisingly good amounts of room. The trick is getting out without burning your leg on the side pipes. :)

As I mentioned last week I was able to drive the cobra to town for a cruise in night on the main drag that was closed off to all but fun cars/trucks and spectators. Good news is it made the trip, cruise, trip home, and trip back to town the next day for a little car show without issue. I did go through my first tank of gas, sadly I only averaged 9.5 mpg, maybe when I grow tired of hearing the sound it'll improve. Doesn't look likely anytime soon:

After getting it put away I had couple of dance recitals to attend to between working on stuff at the house. I pulled the RX-7 out that has been patiently waiting on me for 3 years, it is time, rolled it outside to give it a good bath, and back in to vacuum it out:

After:
IMG_3796.JPG

It had a small engine fire which is where most of the damage came from, but cleaned up pretty well. Now to begin a large lego set to see if I can figure out where everything goes and get it back together. Wish me luck.

In other news I mowed the entire yard with the new mower for the first time Sunday, it took 1.3 hours according to the hour meter, a significant improvement over the previous mower. Speaking of which here is a size comparison between the two:

IMG_3800.JPG

It was much more comfortable too, I'm actually looking forward to mowing with it in the future.

That seat alone is worth the price of admission! My in-laws love their Bad Boy mower.

Looking forward to the RX-7 project.

The suspension seat along with the drivetrain suspension was a huge selling point for me, I still have some places where I can't hit them anywhere near full speed, but when I'm done I feel great rather than beat up.

I've honestly been dreading the RX-7 project, it hasn't been even registered since '95 I believe and all of the parts came to me in boxes rather than assembled to do an engine swap like I'd believed I was getting into. It'll be tough to know what I'm missing if I'm missing anything without a starting point. Time will tell I suppose, it'll be a good challenge.

Just LS swap it and be done. You already have the harness, and it is simple to make a stand alone.

Dad's got a complete but crusty one in his salvage yard. I can check it out next time I'm there. It is complete. I will be going back again for 10 days in Oct.

Now that's a NICE mower! I'm jealous of the faster speed, and the better suspension sounds like exactly what you need around your place. I wish I could justify upgrading mine, but I don't think that wide deck would even fit between some of the obstacles I have to deal with.

Your back will definitely be thanking you in a few years!

I have a few harnesses laying around, I think one may already be standalone but can't remember for sure, I also have a computer already tuned with VATS removed so an LS swap wouldn't be hard, just not in this one, the owner is adamant the rotary goes back in.
Welcome back to green country! Congrats on all fronts...lots of cool things happening around your place.
Thank ya sir, it sure does feel nice to be back, I do have a lot of catching up to do though. I'm really grateful my brother and nephew came up to mow my yard while I was gone. They have a JD lawn tractor and really liked the old Hustler, I invited them back to try out the Bad Boy, trying my best Tom Sawyer we shall see.
She is ugly.
At least you don't have to look at it in the mirror every day, and that is my good side, you should see the front.

Hopefully this one will be done by then, but if you get a chance to snap some photos I'd appreciate it, I could use all the help I can get.

I chose this one because it is only slightly wider than my other one, I could have gotten a 72" deck but for the same reason I chose the 61", I have a decent amount of stuff to mow between that the larger size just wouldn't work. I love the suspension on this one, the old one had no suspension at all and was rough.

JB the cobra looks great, as for improving on that 9.5 mpg, if you do figure out how to leave the pipes alone please let me know,
I never could keep my foot out of those noise makers. I ran four into ones on my 75 chevy pickup back in the day, I had side pipes on almost every vehicle I had.

I had to laugh when I read your complaint about MPG, and then saw your custom plate in the picture right below it. I'll bet you knew just about exactly what you were getting yourself into when you ordered that Godzilla engine and the custom plates at about the same time! 😂

I do have some work I can do in the tune with the computer, but I'm not very good with the program just yet so I don't want to stray too far from where I'm at now, but suspect I can get a few more MPG's out of it in time. I do think side pipes have a very unique and fun sound, I enjoy listening them them...a lot!

I've had the custom plate since 2011 or so, sometimes it is more appropriate than others, this was a particular bad tank of gas, I'm sure it'll get better in time but I get to drive it so still cheaper than when I was building it. I debated on the MPG with this engine, on one hand it is huge and powerful, on the other it is fuel injected and I can control how much fuel it gets in any operating range within safe limits. The ultimate test will be a road trip when I can compare side by side with how it was before, in time.

Looks like other people are having same idea you did with the Godzilla engine.
Car looks awesome!!!
I've seen the ads for that car, it is beautiful, I'm considering putting my name in the hat for it, but what would I do with two Godzilla powered cobras? I guess I could have a fair weather car and a winter beater.
Well done getting cobra out on the road.

Also congats on the lil' future steaks & burger. Does he have a name?
Thank you rattle_snake, it was a ton of work, but glad to have it on the road again. My girls named it White Chocolate, I'm sure he will taste more like steak than chocolate though.

JB, you could get two license frames that say "My Other Car is a Cobra." Back in the day all my cars had "My Other Car is a POS" frames.
I like that idea Bob, I guess I have to try to win it now, just so I can get the license plate frame.

Seriously?!?!?! And with a Godzilla power plant?? :headscrat

The word Cobra and MPG should not be uttered in the same sentence. :headshake

That is worse than they get in the trucks that are 5,000 lbs heavier, not sure how that happened exactly:3gears:, but I'm working on it.

It does make it a little tougher to justify 3,000 mile road trips when it would cost about $0.50 a mile, but that is why I built this car so...

Isn't the ECU learning at this point in time? I would think that engine performance would improve in time, no? I would also think things might improve if someone was a little lighter on the loud pedal? Although I can fully understand the urge to dip into the throttle.

The ECU is learning some, but is also hamstrung by certain limits and parameters. One example is the return to idle, it was having a tough time returning to desired idle RPM without overshooting (dropping below), then couldn't react quick enough so it would overshoot high, then back low and after about 8-10 seconds settling out into a nice smooth idle. Could the computer have eventually figured this out, possibly, but doubtful, I spent about 75 minutes the other night watching videos explaining a bit more of it and then tweeking on the tune all while drinking a cold drink and playing on a computer, I never even popped the hood. It is much better now.

I know self control goes hand in hand with self preservation, I think I need to deaden the pedal up a bit to keep from getting too much throttle blade opening too early in the pedal travel. I do really enjoy the the sound though, so that doesn't help.

One other thing I did was lean out the target are fuel ratio in the cells around cruise rpm/load. Before it was at a target of 14.3, I took it up to 14.7 for now but may tweek it higher later with a little more investigation/learning, that will help driving MPG a good bit.

you need to stop by for a visit soon. Be nice to catch up on things.
I wish I'd have read this last week, I had the week off of work and could have come up for a quick visit pretty easy. I'm off again the week after the 4th so may do just that.
I think you and I need to go visit JB along with @djones1a Dennis when I come over. Message last night from the Passport office to say my new one was approved, just has to be printed now.
I'm game for that, it is always good to chat with ya'll. I really need to get my passport updated, I think I might be a bit late though, it is way past due.

I'm back at it again, but nothing major last week, a lot of cleanup work.

Surely you can enter the rest of the USA without a Passport……

Or is there something you never told me? 😉
