And property tax assessment.

When we built our She-shed the county assessor was out right away. Put it on the rolls as a house.

Told her it didn’t have water to it, so they just made it an outbuilding. If we’d put water to it the taxes would have been multiples of what they are now.

Not to worried about the assessor coming out here. When we moved into the house 3 years ago, I had to call them and tell them I needed to get an updated property tax assessment, it took them 3 months to come out.

Thanks. It was pretty easy, even with just me doing it. If I was to do it over I probably would have just installed a wood stove, because that fireplace was a PITA.

A plus for your area is there is always plenty of cheap firewood as long as you know someone that has property up north of Silverdale.

I was thinking the same thing on the fireplace. I showed her this thread before I did a few things, came back and she was still checking it out. We’ll see where this leads...lol.

If you look at the photo that the OP supplied, you'll see that there is a doubled 2x ridge beam. Correctly done, that should support the load and no spreading should occur.

Good call, I missed that. Thanks for pointing that out!

The "shed" came out great, good work!

Unruh,
We're you really looking for something to build? That would be the only reason I would show my wife anything. :willy_nil:willy_nil

Thanks

I have been saying that she needs her own space for her crafting. I think she looks inside our pump house building and thinks that’s what hers will end up looking like.

I just read through this thread - what a cool project!

On an unrelated note, I noticed the fence in the background is identical to what I have in mind for my backyard - 4x4 posts with top and bottom rails and 8' hog panels. I haven't figured out the most efficient (read: cheap) way to securely fasten the hog panels to the posts and rails. How did you do it?

Thanks.

I understand the most economical way is not always the best way, but all I did was take a 2x4x8 treated cut it to the height of the hog panel and then cut it in half length wise, then I attached one half to each of the 4x4's, put the hog panel up and attached the other half of the 2x4. This will sandwich the panel in between the 2x4's and done :)

The top and bottom rails I used my table saw and cut a groove in the 2x4 the same width of the hog panel and that helped to keep it from bowing out if pushed on. But you could also use more 2x4's and cut them in half. Making the groove was the cheapest way.

Hope that helps.

We can tell just how much you love this project. It only took nearly 3 years for your first post and it was about the she-shed :bounce:

I don't see anything wrong with that, I've been here for 6 years and only have 158 posts.

I don't see anything wrong with you either. Posting 56x the rate of kingpinxs :D

I wasn't post count shaming, who cares about the number. But when it's the FIRST post I just thought it was funny.

It's all good.

I see it as they found something that caught their eye and finally wanted to ask a question. Maybe they will post in a few other threads.

Thanks for the reply! I like the table saw idea, might be a good time to invest in a dado set!

What's funny is that I didn't even realize that was my first post. Admittedly, I'm definitely a serial lurker... i visit this site more than I'd care to admit but apparently hadn't felt the need to add (or ask) anything in three years. I better slow down after this so I don't bring my posts-per-year average up too high.

Dado set was what I used, makes it really simple.

I agree with you on the lurking, I'm on here WAY more than i should be, guess it is a semi safe addiction

Got bored this weekend and had some free time and needed some cabinets for the shop, so I put up a few.

Next up will be a work bench over the tool boxes :bounce:

Looks like the fireplace is working pretty good tonight.

It's 28° outside and 74° inside.

Toasty

Nice work. Those small part bins / cubbies underneath are great as well. Gonna have to steal that idea from you.

Awesome she-shed... with the new trend of "minimalist" you could probably rent that place out as-is for some positive monthly cash flow. ha ha

Thanks, good idea but I think if I tried to rent it out it would definitely need some plumbing.

I haven't done it yet, but if I happen to sleep out there at least I would have some pretty good sunrises to look at :)

Started on the work bench today, but this will take me a little bit cause I want to make sure it's built for what I need and can withstand some use ;)

Started by cleaning off the top of one of my tool boxes to get some measurements, and since I have 6 metal small piece bins, I wanted to put them someplace I can get to them. So I cut some leftover fiber cement siding from the shed to put on the top of the boxes.

Next up was to cut some scrap 2x4's to use as guides and stops. Then I test fitted the metal boxes. Done. The bench top will be screwed to the 2x4's so they don't move.

Next up will be to build the frame for the bench. But probably won't start that till this weekend.

Jagwinn,

Are you caught up yet? ;)

This last shed was a hell of a lot easier than the one at my last house.

That's not a shed! They call that a semi in the GTA, which could be yours for the upper $8xxK range!

Amazing. Lucky lady. Though I'm not sure who coined She Shed. I hate it every time I hear it. Ugh. It's a workroom or a retreat or a studio.

Gutted,
If your wife ever had any doubts about you loving her, this should settle things once and for all. :)

meh, she is a woman, dont say good morning in the right tone and his love will be in question....:mad:

good on you OP. when I see these fireplaces of building gone by, I think it would be cool to build a new one back onto them.

Lucky, maybe. SPOILED, YES!!!

To me it's just a expensive place that won't get used as much as I think it should be, but since I have my shop she can have her shed.

Nice building!

My wife just spotted me looking at this and got too interested. She did ask “where would I pee...” The yard? maybe it can end there.

Merry Christmas to the wife

I went and got her the wine fridge she wanted for her she shed. Now I just need to build the cabinet next to it. Add a few counter tops and a shelf for the tv box and the inside "Should" be done :bounce:

It's been a little while since I've done anything on the wife's she shed figured I'd share :)

Getting ready to brick the bottom of her shed so I need some footers for the brick, sounds simple :headscrat

Until I started digging, tried using the back hoe, couldn't get it quite close enough to do any good, so this just makes life more fun. Out comes the shovels, pick, and whatever else will help break up earth that has never been disturbed. What a P.I.T.A.

But I got it done and ready for the day long fun of mixing concrete, 33 80 lb bags to be exact. Joy... :wtf:

That fun will be next weekend. :bounce:
