I thought you guys might like to see what we sometimes have to deal with here in the salt belt. This is a C/V shaft stuck in a knuckle/ hub assembly out of a 2011 Silverado. Please note the pressure.




That's right 39 tons of pressure and it still did not break free. And that was after soaking it with "knock er loose" for several hours before putting it into the press.

It didn't happen John. He's buying a new hub assembly, knuckle, and C/V shaft. OUCH!!!

With the C/V shaft stuck, there is no way to slide the knuckle back over the lower ball joint. There isn't enough physical room to make it possible.

That makes my wheel cylinder story a bit lame - I'm glad that we don't have rust issues like that here.

What are you planning for rust prevention on the Olds (apart from not driving in winter of course)?
I'm a great believer in fish oil (Fisholene), it's thin enough to get into most places and sticky enough to stay there - let's face it, when was the last time you saw a rusty fish?

Dan, first of all I'm glad to hear your mother is doing better.

I don't know why Chyrsler made the evaporator and heater core the center of their engineering universe. I can't imagine it being harder to get to (my '04 PT Cruiser is the same design). I don't ever recall having to remove the steering column to do that job on any other car. My big-block Corvette heater and evaporator core were child's play by comparison.

I did make life a little easier by removing the valve cover and header but still...

Hey Thank all of you guys for stopping by and your well wishes. I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas too.

So a little update. As a lot of you know it's been brutally cold here the last couple of weeks. Nighttime lows in the - teens and daytime highs in the single digits. (F*) Anyway my shop is 35'x80' and could be better insulated. So, New Years day I come into the shop and turn on my waste oil furnace. (Propane furnace is primarily used) Something isn't right and it won't stay running. So upon further investigation I find the back wall fire brick has come dislodged.

Well I remember that this unit came with a 10 year warranty on the combustion chamber so I call the company and find out that it was purchased in 2007. So now it's time to see how much it's going to cost me for a new heater...............Phone conversation turns out to be "Have we got a deal for you"

And actually what they offered me wasn't all that bad so I ordered a new combustion chamber and burner. Here it is, sheet metal stripped off, ready for new parts.





So that as "Bugs" says.....That's all folks..................Update to follow.

Sounds to me like no warranty, ten years was up.

But, for a few dollars more you're good for another ten years.

I'm guessing repair would have been too difficult, or was their replacement internals really a great deal?

Glad to know you use a waste oil furnace. Do you generate plenty of waste oil or do you collect from others as well?

I guess for your short heating season additional insulation is not viable. And waste oil for fuel.

It was about 100°f yesterday and it's already in the 80s today (it's only 10.20am here) - I wish I could turn it down a bit.

also i've been seeing on the news they don't even know what to call that storm heading your way (cyclone, hurricane, N'Easter, typhoon or whatever) so I hope your heater inside your home is working and you don't have any trees blowing over to damage anything or knock your power or heat out.

I’m just catching up on the past few m on the of posts... good progress and sorry to hear about the propane furnace issues but at least you are getting it all sorted out.

Hey Thanks for all the comments and stopping by. I'd post some pictures but I'm having trouble with my laptop lately.

The have been new chamber and burner successfully installed. The thing is awesome. Although it is the same btu output, it seems to be putting out a lot more heat. As soon as I can, I'll get some pictures up.

Drives, nice to see you here. And I don't do wood for heat, I'm too lazy.
