The plates off the patrol car when I retired....I sent to him. Not a whole lot of the exempt plates out in the wild. But I knew they would be in good hands with him. I would hate to have to worry about them coming back to haunt me....So no worries.

ATTENTION...BEWARE......ADDICTIVE HABITS FORMING.
Yes ladies and gentleman you have all been warned, this habit of collecting plates ( tags) can become extremely addictive. It starts with the simple and innocent notion of just grabbing one because of the colour or shape or lettering. BUT it doesn't stop there!
please view a couple of my own affliction below, there is still 3 milk crates full of plates from other countries that I don't have room for until I get the house finished.
IMG_4632.jpg IMG_4636.jpg
SO please be careful.

Yes sir they can be. Got 16 plates that are from Florida but these are off cars I or family has owned over the years.

With this one being my first plate off my first car. 949c20d8f1993da7d35718da8048a671.jpg
Not only special cause first one but cause of the whole Challenger shuttle explosion too. I went to local flea market and people asking $10 for old Fl plates but I'll just keep collecting ones off my vehicles.

Re: My Atlas 412A Lift install/review

Dan I finally slowed down long enough to see you have a thread Duh, guess I been working to hard. But, as you can see it is three AM here so I guess that explains it. Are you going to the Paris car show this year? I have a great grand son due in Sept. so I may not make it but if I can I will let you know. Didn't know you were a front end guy. I used to know how to check the bushings on a lower control arm with a crow bar but that was fifty years ago. I believe I did it right on the sixty six but perhaps you could refresh my memory. Sure would like to have and know how to use the equipment you have but I do still have the crow bar! Thanks Bobby

Wow, I've been catching up on all you other guys threads. Looks like I need to take care of my own for a minute.

Mark, I'd love a plate if you can find one. But as I told Lyndon, I wasn't collecting them but would be more than happy to display one. Then as Terrick said, WATCH OUT it is turning into a collection now.

Rod, I did get there, and most everything had been sold off during the week(it was supposed to start on Saturday) The only thing left was an old Sears & Roebuck 12" band saw. I abstained from buying it as I really don't need to take up space with something I might use twice a year.

Richie, I was a little busy this past weekend, but I will get that plate up and post a photo when I do.

Gerard, looks like you have enough plates to spare one for the "wall of fame"

Bobby, I'm very happy that you stopped by. I know you keep yourself very busy. I know you think if you slow down for a minute, someone is going to start throwing dirt over your resting body.:lol_hitti
I don't know if I'll be going to the Paris show this year or not. But ifyou get up here, call me and we have several other places to go and see. I'll bet you'd love this one.....https://www.facebook.com/colelandtransportationmuseum

I saw this at a "warehouse clearance" sale over the weekend. I thought some of you guys might like to see it. The picture doesn't do it justice. I know the thing weighs over 500lbs.

Sorry I couldn't get a better picture of it. They kind of had it blocked off so I could get closer or a different angle.

DLC: that DP looks like an early 1900's one with a belt drive. if you would've shot the picture a couple inches lower I would have told you to maybe BUY that vise that you can carry because JOE STRIPER I think uses that one daily and he OWNS more than a few vises. I bet that old DP weighs closer to 1000 pounds if it has the base and upper platforms that might weigh close to 200 pounds each alone.

BEE CAREFUL looking at this big old stuff or you'll have your STUFF controlling your life like it does for Me and maybe more than a few other members here. if you can find a place to USE it and restore it to have as your GO TO DP then you have my blessing because I have it's little brother or cousin and I LOVE the look of a leather or vinyl band driven DP.

cheers

DLC: not a horrible price especially if it is ALL there and there isn't an drill marks in the platform or broken cast. i'm guessing you don't have a fork lift at home or at the shop?

I bet they have help to load it onto a trailer at the auction and if you have a way to move it onto a rolling plywood or steel dolly at the shop you are golden if you can get it off the trailer and onto it.

some are not worth bothering with. i'd go to that auction to see about buying the vises and if for some reason the DP didn't sell because one of the big movers like Strouty who could move that in 5 minutes then it might sell for less. take a look at the vintage Drill press thread if you want to see a few pristine ones and IIRC on of my local members posted up a restored version of that one maybe 2 years ago.

if you do decide you'd like to try and own it ask Strouty how to move it because I think he bought a 5 or 6 head DP that probably weighed twice as much just last year that is sitting in his shop.

cheers big guy

A lot of interest in this auction apparently. The auctioneer made comment that there was so much traffic that it shut their web site down and they we're working with the server to get it back up.. He also mentioned it was one of the largest turn outs that he had ever seen. It took close to an hour just to get to the registration table and get my # to bid.

20160507_104153.jpg

A couple fixer upers. I didn't get a price on what the highest bid was.

20160507_103316.jpg

This gas pump went for $850.00

20160507_102719 (2).jpg

This Texaco sign was found in the woods, the auction company didn't even have it in their catalogue, So they snuck it in and it went for $3400.00. Yes that's three thousand four hundred dollars.

20160507_095703.jpg

The Pegasus in the far right was one of the first pieces auctioned off and sold for $1800.00. The shell sign next to it on the left went for $1500.00. The Gulf went for $1100.00. The ESSO went for $1000.00. And at 30 minutes into the auction, I realized that I wasn't going to walk out of there with anything.:sad

:20160507_100611.jpg

Pegasus pump globe $1100.00.

20160507_100448.jpg

Old gas station air pump $1000.

So I hung around for a while. There was a small Maine Inspection Station sign that I thought I could get for a couple hundred, but when it came up, it quickly went for $500.00 and that's when I got up and left.

20160507_103210.jpg

Here's the lathe that some of you guys were interested in seeing. I do not know what it sold for, but the way everything else was going, I'd say a pretty penny.

Shorty, I just saw your e-mail. Nothing that I'm aware of went for that. And there were no Dr. Pepper signs that I saw.

Makes you wonder if the people that bought that stuff are going to mark it up, then flog it through their shops, which means that someone is going to be paying a shed load for it...... Makes you scratch the old goatee doesn't it???? :dunno: Did I mention I've been manscaping, and have lost the handles for a goatee?????

Hi Lyndon. I talked to a guy that goes to a lot of auctions, and he informed me before it even started that there were some "heavy hitters" there. And he was very informative with his knowledge. He explained who was flipping and who was buying for their own collection. And after a fashion, I could see that he was dead on in his wisdom. There were probably 3 people that spent well over $10K each on signs.( I'm assuming they were the ones "flipping". ) Although I was prepared to spend some money, I wasn't going to break the bank on a sign to hang on the wall of my shop. There are still a lot of them scattered around the back woods of Maine, and it's just a matter of time before I get my hands on some. At least I now know what some people are willing to pay for them.

Yep - I thought that's what might happen. I think it's the same here from what I've learnt over the last day or so. Makes you wonder, if that's what they are paying- who are they floggin' it to????? One day, the law of supply and demand says that people are going to stop paying those ridiculous prices, and eventually the prices will come back down.

Well - I hope you spoil Lisa for Mothers Day. I know Irene (& me) have had a laid back day here (Though I did vacuum the house for her this morning..... And yes, I had to have clothes on :eyecrazy: :scared:. It was too cold for anything else......).

I do plan on having some down time with her later today as she had to work. I'm hoping to head off and see my mom and have lunch with her at my brother's house. It's over an hour from here. And I've still got to get some trim up in the bedroom project. Thanks for checking in and I'm glad you had a good day with Irene. Now back to the grind for you after a good nights sleep(I hope)

Hey Dan, I just caught up with the last couple of pages (been busy, busy, busy).

..

Were those diamond plate fenders on what looks like an R190 or R200 International, an option over there or would they be owner-installed?

We're there other old trucks or just the 2 Inters and the B-model?

Shame about the ridiculous prices. :(

There's some sweet projects there. But like most auctions, people get stupid. Sorry you weren't able to bring anything home.

Even at the local consignment auctions things can get nuts really quick. Whenever you have a more specialized auction it is hard to get a good deal because most of the buyers are there for a reason and know what things are worth. Sometimes though, if you hang around until the end, deals can be had. My Dad has an old Mack that has big winches mounted to it, we use it to build towers.

Yeah Dan, sometimes the learning experience is what you get from the auction, it can be just as valuable as any item if you pay attention.

You have to do so trim work to get some "trim"? LOL

Just catching up on auction... That's some crazy ****! I know there's a want for stuff like that but DAMN. I think if they run the prices up then people believe that's what the actually cost? I always figured that something only worth what someone is willing to paid for it. I know ( no disrespect to older guys) that people earned there money and now retired and are willing to spend a lot to recreate something from childhood or a dream they once had. Unfortunately, this inflates a market. I've seen this on my local CL a lot especially on eBay. Someone's goes ahead and pays $400 for say for toolbox and now everyone and their brother thinks they can get top dollar for something that only maybe worth $50 to $100 realistically. On one hand it's really good for the seller on the other hand it's hard for any normal guy to ever get anything.

You guys are right. It was a learning experience and I can also see why people think they have something that's worth a lot more than it is.

I get some cool things that come by here sometimes. Check this out.

Heck yes. I didn't think you guys would go for something as small as a "Y" type MG. I'm even impressed there's one there. Guy driving it must feel monstered driving highways next to some of the larger SUV's you guys have.... And, what HP are those outboards. Bet they aren't small numbers. :willy_nil.

That MG is pretty rare around here for sure, but there are several around. I've passed MG car clubs on the road before and there will be 2 or 3 in the parade. I don't know how many 52's are around.

I didn't notice what size those outboards were. I'm sure a least 135 hp.
