Nothing really Don. I'll probably just use it to keep a nice edge on my pocket knife. It's just a real cool old stone that I've had for years and decided to make it work again.

Thanks Kirk, I'd like nothing better than to show you around. If you ever get to Maine, you'd better take the time to look me up.

DLC: if you have a spot for an old cool grinder even if only to look at and don't use it you have my vote.

Also some of your BORING daily jobs like changing brake pads, doing alignments, and other jobs might teach somebody that never thought they could do it and how would that make you feel.

I haven't worked on my cars in maybe close to 35-40 years since you needed expensive tools and computers to do so and i'd like to start working on them again especially if I buy an old classic one that uses standard tools.

just curious when you started making your back yard out of the brush and swamp like land did you have to bring in a lot of fill?

looks like a great place to relax with a beer or ice tea in hand.

Thanks Drives, I'll get back to answering you when I have more time. Right now I have to go "hide in plain site" some eggs for the grandkids that'll be here in about 4 hours. I've got to put on Easter dinner (lunch) as my wife had to work today. (Nursing doesn't recognize holidays). Happy Easter all.

Ah ha, you snuck in a signature update Dan. Cool lift. Your shop looks like it's got some character going on, is it like a barn style ?

Post away, remember different sides of the pond do things differently so good to see how the other side does it.

Remember your vegemite on toast for breakfast :) (don't smother it on like Lyndon does - just a little bit is all you need until you get used to it)

Cheers GB. :beer2:

Good luck on the egg hunt, is this inside or outside?

We had 2 trails of eggs out from the door this morning leading to where the baskets were at!

Easter can bring out some really good things. DW just read an exert from FB. A man has made audible eggs that tick so his blind daughter could do Easter egg hunt with the other kids. Just makes you sit and think for a moment hey!.
Hope all your kids had smiles today.

Dan

You must be busy - haven't seen you for a few days.

But I posted this in my thread yesterday, and thought I'd copy it over to here so you know to expect something (unless you're not looking in here at all..... :headscrat

"Dan.

A certain package left me today headed your way. I made a slight mistook in the envelope I chose to send it, so you are going to get it VERY quickly, (which is good anyway). I'm told you should see it in 3 or 4 days from now.
"

I put a little note of explanation in with the package to help understand some of the background of the plates too.

Have a great weekend.

Lyndon
Cruisin' down for a soft finish to the week. :bounce: :hellobye:

Rod, I have tried to post a couple of pictures of my shop. For some reason, they keep coming out upside down. I'll take a couple of new ones and see what happens.

Lyndon, thank you. I'll be watching for them. They will be displayed in the shop and I'll be posting a picture of them for all to see. Hope you guys all have a great weekend.

There you go Rod, finally got one to come out right side up. I'm not sure I would call it a barn, but we do refer to it as "the barn".:lol_hitti
When I first bought this place, I thought this was a very large garage. But now it seems that I could use a little more space.

cb, you caught me again. (Dan being a sleeping bat)

Lyndon, very bust week here. No complaints here, as with the ***** time comes more money.

More money is always good - more tool money - until SWMBO discovers your stash. :dunno: :willy_nil
I'm intrigued by the 3 different sized doors. Is that so you can fit a) small suburban, b) mid size SUV and c) mother truckin' truck?

Never tell the SWMBO about the stash.

It isn't a good picture. Two doors are the same. I don't know why one appears wider than the other. But you are on it. We use the bigger bay for alignments and when we have larger trucks to work on.

Oh yeah. Got it now. I must have been leaning a little off the table.... (Well it is 10:10pm and that's my excuse.).... 4 or 5 drinks in by now!!!!! I think - ask the ref.

Lyndon
Now let's see who can get back to my thread first? :lol_hitti :willy_nil :dunno:

Eureka! I found it again - hiding in plain sight (like the Easter eggs).

You really should send out a bulletin to all your friends when you do something like that Dan (changed the title of your thread) - you know I'm easily confused. :willy_nil

I've probably skimmed past the thread a dozen times (I have a lot of threads that I have subscribed to because they looked interesting and plan to read them when I have time) and just didn't recognise it - but the main thing is, I found it again. :)

Last week I had a "simple wheel bearing/ hub assembly replacement." Normally that job should take between 1/2 to 2 hours, depending on how bad it has rusted onto the knuckle. This one was a little more of a challenge as it had to be cut off before a new one could be installed.

IMG_20160304_073407625.jpg

First I had to cut a piece of the hub so I could get the cut off wheel close enough to split the bearing. Then C/V shaft. I was hoping that I would be able to save the C/V shaft, but that didn't happen.

IMG_20160304_081927774.jpg

Just another problem we face up here in the "rust belt". And just to let you know, I did heat the thing until it was glowing red and it still wouldn't budge. You can see the chisels behind it inducing a lot of pressure to no avail.

I hate it when things don't come apart like they should - are you familiar with the front (drum) brakes on a '65 Impala?

There is a very shallow, rounded shoulder 15/16 hex nut holding the wheel cylinder on (and you have to remove the cylinder to get it apart because the backing plate has "lumps" on it).

I had to grind a brand new ring spanner (you'd call it something different, but I think you'll figure what I'm talking about) flat (because of the shallow, rounded thing) and hold it in place with a pair of Vice-Grips, so that it didn't slip off that shallow, rounded b@#$%.

I had applied (and reapplied) penetrating oil and I tried the usual means of getting more leverage (4' of pipe) - still would not move - I ended up with a jack under the end of the spanner, which lifted the corner of that car (this is a 9-seater wagon with a big block sitting in the engine bay) - still nothing...

...about 45 minutes later (I just left it with the weight of the car on it and moved on to something else).... C-R-A-C-K! It finally came undone.

And you worry about your stories being boring? (They're not, BTW). :dunno:

Yesterday one of the projects was to get the seat covers off my Delta 88 so they could be sent out to Nines, who is going to make me some new ones. Here's the beginning of the project. It'll be months before there'll be an update on the seats.

20160311_084023.jpg

20160314_093239.jpg

That looks like a late '60s / early '70s Strato-bench - so what vintage is the Olds?

Here's the start of the ceramic stone project. I got the stand from Tinker Rick. He saved it from going to the scrap yard. It's a perfect fit, and will give me a place to mount a motor.

20160325_135836.jpg

It's got a water feed tank with spicket as well as a drain hole in the base. I'm not sure why it has the other set of pulleys on it. Maybe some type of auto feed feature. There is a truing stone built into the back of it.

That's cool.

...

Have you tried turning the camera over? :lol_hitti

Nice shed Dan

No complaints here, as with the ***** time comes more money.

Why would anyone complain about having a ***** time? :headscrat

Now that I've caught up (and have discovered the new title), I'll try to be more regular with my commenting.

Cheers

Cool, so roughy 60' x 30' or something like that ?

Could you squeeze in a mezzanine floor in down the entry door end for some extra storage ?

Cheers GB.

Rod, good eye. 30'x 75' approx.

I'm actually hoping to add another 25' to the end of the shop this summer. I'd like to be able to have a car port to park my (72 Olds Delta 88 ragtop....Mark). If all goes well I'll be starting on it before June. With pictures of course.)

Mark, now that we're friends on the GJ, you can see my private album. Go to post 39 in my "project alignment" album and you can see the Delta 88.

Lyndon, I won't be around in the morning and will miss talking with you. I have an early morning task (leaving at 5:00 am.) I'll catch up tomorrow. And I looked through your album. You have a very nice place. I enjoyed seeing all the pictures you've got in there. I love the one with you in the wheel chair with those things stuck up your nose (have you no pride?):lol_hitti You are a very special person. Your outlook on life is refreshing, to say the least.

The international tracker for the parcel I sent over is listed as "awaiting collection" at your Post Office. Looking forward to your response (but I know you're out of town now)

And that tube, it went to my stomach and was ... No - you don't want to hear that! Lets just say that getting it out was not fun. I told the nurse on the pulling end that once she started she wasn't to stop no matter what I did. :shocking: :willy_nil It was one of 9 that either went into or came out of the body. That photo was after being in ICU for 3 nights (one of which I was totally out for thank heavens).

Lyndon
Just home, about to start the painting - again. But this time it's almost done. :bounce:

They arrived! I will be framing the letter to hang next to them as I think your explanation of the plates from NSW is priceless. When I find the perfect place to display them, I will be posting a photo. Thank you Lyndon.

Dan

As per the PM - I'm glad they got there OK.

The "letter" is just by way of explanation for the background of the plates. Both I have had for many, many years. And the twin to the car plate, the larger one, (from either the front or the back which ever way you care to think about it) will always hang in my garage as it's counter part. So we are now joined across a very long distance by the thin plated thing that is a number plate. Outstanding isn't it!

Lyndon

Cheers - - - - just Cheers!

It's amazing that at this time of the night here, and 14 hours earlier in Maine, we are both punching away at a ****** keyboard to talk.

Somehow, (and I think my wife thinks I'm crackers), that works for me.

It was good to have a quick chat last night.

Good to see you got a picture up. You might need to explain the difference in size to the good folk looking in.

I'm just sneaking in a quick look while I'm at work. Been a pretty hectic morning so far. :willy_nil

As per Lyndon's request, these plate were smuggled out of NSW. They are HOT. I expect that I'll be being reached shortly by the authorities of NSW and having to explain why I have them.:lol_hitti In case I am requested to appear before the NSW court system, I'll will have to impose on Lyndon for a place to stay while I'm there.

No, I'm sorry. I think he meant I should explain that the larger plate was from a car that Lyndon once (or still does) owned. And the smaller one was from a motorcycle.

Very glad we got to talk to each other yesterday. It was a big surprise when I answered the phone and you were on the other end.

The plates will find a special place in my shop for all to see.

Sssshhhhhh. We don't want everyone to know..... :lol_hitti

And no - the car that had the plates on it has long since gone to old Jaguar heaven.

It's all good (as far as the plates are concerned). And if you find yourself down here, we have a very good guest room that I did up last year. It just needs, well, guests??????

If nothing happens earlier - the wife and I are planning a trip to Vegas in 2019 to re-do our vows at an Elvis Chapel for our 30th anniversary. Plan in a visit if you aren't Down Under bound earlier. :dunno:

And I hoped you'd get a kick out of me calling, but hoped I didn't spook you by doing it. And when your place was "off the grid" for Google Street view I was only slightly worried...... :lol_hitti :lol_hitti

Funny that you lot should mention that.
A couple of years ago I got some worrying results from the 50yo probe. So my mate and I went for a 2 weeks to the USA. LA, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon in snow, SLC, Denver and finally to Glen Rock WY. In SLC we stayed at a underground house of a friend from RV.NET when I was buying a TC ( slide on camper) Never met or spoken till I rang him from LA and said we were in the US and heading his way. Emailed of course before that but not spoken. It was really nice and gave me confidence about the UGH I am building now. In Denver we dropped the C class at the depot and another new friend picked us up from Denver national park camping area, ( really nice spot) and drove us back to Glen Rock, put us up for 3 days while showing us all around parts of WY. He has the same brand of TC as we have.
So you two......things do happen eventually.
BTW, I'm ok now. Mind you my good friend is also my Hip surgeon.

Great story Terrick. I hope that someday I will get to Australia and get to meet the lot of you. It's on my bucket list. I am afraid to go there as once I see what it's like, I may never want to leave.

I will get another "garage related" post in here soon. Although the small talk is probably more enjoyable.
