Well another addition arrived today for the Wall of Fame. This one made it all the from Ohio. Member JC23 has joined the ranks of members on the wall. I've still got a ton of space that I'd like to fill with plates or bottle caps or whatever you would send to add to it. Anyone interested please send me a PM.

Thanks JC23. You're still one of the best "pin"heads I know.

That wuz a mistake. I meant to send that to one of the 'Good' members here on GJ. Send it back and don't forget to include handling and restocking charges of $50!:evil::evil:

Looks good Dan. Better start a nickel jar (or is it dime?) for all the times you now get asked "where's the gas pump" when people pull up.

GB

Dan, GB onto a good idea. You could charge money to see the Hall of Fame an additional charge they can see cc fishnets. LOL

I'm hoping to get my hands on something like this.

Naw, it's free to all members. I'm hoping there'll be many more contributions to it.

Hey guys, I thought I could add something here. No pictures but here's the story.

Last Wednesday (before taking a long Thanksgiving weekend) we had a truck here that needed to be serviced. It was a F-550. So I bring it in the shop onto the 4 post lift. And push the up button. The lift groans a little and then it stops moving. WTF? So I lower the lift and check out the GVW of the truck( I know, I should have done this first) And holy sh^t , this thing weighs 17500. Oh no, my lift is rated for 14000. Okay do the service on the floor and get this beast off my lift. Service done, truck outside. End of the day. Go enjoy the 4 days off.

Monday morning. Bring in another truck that needs a shift cable replaced. Push the up button and .......................... WTF it's not going up. Panic is quickly setting in. I've got two alignments scheduled and now my lift is broken. I grab the manual and go to trouble shooting. It says, blah, blah, blah. I give it a try............Nothing. So I call customer service and this guy named Jeff tells me what I have to do to diagnose it. I follow his instructions and call him back with the results. He tell me to get the heaviest vehicle we have and put it on the lift. And then proceeds to give me instruction what to do. I am please to tell you all that the lift is back up (literally) and it didn't even cost me a dime. He also told me that trying to pick up a vehicle that is heavier than what the lift is rated for does not cause any problems(??) Apparently the lift goes into bypass mode when there's too much weight on it. Nice to know. So that was my excitement for the day yesterday. Just though I'd pass it along. ( I really need to remember to take more pictures:sad:)

Glad to hear about the lift not being damaged by the HUGE F-550! i drove one of those for work and holly **** what a tank! We had to drive about 6 hours and had to stop to fill up with fuel halfway, I was horrified.... Once we got 5000 pounds of material on the back it was a bit smoother ride but wow.....

That is nice to know, so thanks for sharing.

A couple of months ago we had our race up on my lift for the final checks before the upcoming race a week later. Right as it was passing the last stop...pop!.....psssss. The crimp took a **** on the lower end of the hydraulic hose and fluid sprayed everywhere. I had a pond on the floor (I hate a mess) but the worst part was our race car was now stuck on the lift!

Fortunately I had a buddy who was able to make me a new hose and we fixed it that same day, but it took me 2 hours to clean up the mess.

Now that you've passed your annual cardiac stress test, are you feeling better?

It's the pits when your new lift breaks.:willy_nil

It's the sh!ts when you think you broke your new lift.:willy_nil:willy_nil

Kudos to the guy who called for help and help helped:thumbup:

Unlike computer help which is no help.:eyecrazy:

Glad you're lifting again!

Dan, I think that was a valuable learning experience. It's good to know that the overload indication is failure to lift, rather than partial lift and epic fail/fall.

+1 on the last three posts.... Or +3 on the last post. :eyecrazy: ;) :dunno:

You choose. But I do like Bob's typically enlightened response.

Sean, I never even gave it a thought. I've had F-45o's on it and knew it was pushing it's limits, but this truck was a town plow truck with all the add-ons like a wing hook up.

Thanks for stopping by Larry. Well we share one thing in common. I hate messes also. I'm always wiping up anything spilled on the floor immediately. The other guys in the shop are always kidding me with," I know, you just washed the floor." When I'm wiping the mess under their feet. Glad your issue was readily solved.

Now that you've passed your annual cardiac stress test, are you feeling better?

Hey Kirk, I certainly wasn't a good feeling to think I was responsible for breaking it.

Thanks Andy. I did go online first but as you said, computer help was no help in this case.

I'm thinking operator error...Yep.

I can't argue with that JC. But it won't happen again (until the next time):spit:

Yes Bob, can you image what I'd have had to go through if that behemoth would have been stuck on the lift three feet off the ground.:headscrat

The sign looks great! You will love playing with the lathe when it's too cold to go outside so congrats on getting it set up! I bet you were crapping your pants when the lift didn't lift...

Yep Bobby, you aced it. As Andy said. It works like a charm.

Nines, thanks. I'm looking forward to using the lathe. I'm waiting for my friend with a precision level to come over and help me get it set up properly. And yes, I was feeling pretty sick when the lift stopped lifting, mainly because I thought I had f*^$ed it up with pure stupidity. I got lucky this time. And it's great to see all the progress you've made. Sometimes when you have a few, give me a shout so we can STS for a while.

Happy Birthday Dan!

Sadly, this is the last year you can check that next-to-the-last box on the questionnaire when it asks how old you are ("60 and over" is right around the corner).

Hey, great day for a special event. It gets easier from now on...They have Carbon Dating on the medical benefits list, and you don't have to cut off a limb......LOL, have a great day.

I guess I will join in and wish you a happy birthday even if it is nearly over.
Good that it fell on a weekend so you can enjoy it, without work I hope.

Well I just checked in to find all the good wishes. Thank each and everyone of you. Tick tock. Less than a year from the big 6 oh.

I'm still waiting for the machinist down the road to come help me get the lathe trued. And in the mean time looking into some tooling kit for it. Any help or links anyone?

Thanks for stopping by.

That must have been one party! Hangover?

You can temporarily level the ways with a torpedo level. It won't hurt the lathe, just the quality of work you get. And at first, you won't notice.

I highly recommend a quick change tool post. I've found good prices at Grizzley but I think the best prices from Shars Tool. They market as discount_machine on eBay or they have a web site. I find eBay is the same price and easier to find what I'm looking for. On their site you wade through thousands of items.

Your lathe could use a size 2 or #200 tool holder.http://www.shars.com/products/toolholding-workholding/quick-change-tool-post-holders?series_quick_change_tool_post=BXA

Hey Dan, good to hear that the lift story had a happy ending, that could have been a lot different.

Of course, I have never overloaded anything.
OK, maybe a couple of times.

Dan HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Let me know if you need any ideas on what you can do with the lathe. Or for that matter what new toys you can get for it. Bobby

Andy, thanks for that link. I was looking into Grizzly but the Shars looks like a better deal for sure. I'll probably get that #200 quick change.

Good talking to you this past weekend Bobby. I'll get onto that for you. And thanks for the invite, I will take you up on that when I head south to retrieve the WOC from Gerard.

Hey, guess what I found at the Post Office on Saturday. No that's not it. Shorty sent me a little something to add to the Wall of GJ fame. Thank you Shorty.

I don't know why I can get this turned right side up, I've gone into the photo director and rotated it but it keeps showing it up sideways. :dunno:
