Wiha years ago moved his machinery to Vietnam for fabriacion of pliers.
The steel used in Vietnam has the same approval authority that the employee in Germany.

It is very interesting to note that Hazet brings the proper 600N wrenches, with the double depression, to the shows but sends out the cheaper single depression version to customers. I got 2 of the latter ones about 3 weeks ago and they don't look good.

It is very interesting to note that Hazet brings the proper 600N wrenches, with the double depression, to the shows but sends out the cheaper single depression version to customers. I got 2 of the latter ones about 3 weeks ago and they don't look good.

What do you mean "cheaper" single depression? I have several of each and have noticed no difference in either performance or quality. I do like the looks of the older better. I think Monte mentioned before about the newer process/material being less hazardous to the workers.

I don't have any problem with my Wiha pliers..when looks at a craftsmanship/built im very satisfied..but Im don't have a opportunity to test a material quality

I owned a 1000V insulated cutter + snipe nose plier bought it because it very cheap MYR 135 or about $44 completed with 2 pcs Insulated screwdrivers + a test pen.

after 1 to 30 years of use you will find out how material quality is Let us know !

that are simply the older ones, i don´t think the new ones are "cheaper", maybe the forging die is faster to produce, but this costs allocated to about 5000 - 40.000 wrenches which you can produce with one die is virtually nothing.

I agree with you, i have the older double depression style and had to replace one and got the new style.

I mean that it is cheaper to produce, and it looks cheaper.
I think it's the wrong way to go for a quality brand because: The price is not the deciding factor when people buy Hazet, so the factory should spend time increasing quality and finish, not saving pennies on something that makes the products look cheaper.
I read the post about the process and plating yes.

Can't do any photos right now , i accidentaly plugged in my PC link cable whilst the camera was on thus frying the chips.It was a 6-7 year old 3.4 megapixel camera though so needed updating anyway.

I'll be in New York for 7-8 days over the 9/11 10th anniversary period.Hotels in New York are so expensive , like $200 a night for the cheapest and i don't own a credit card so have to book at the travel agents , pay a booking fee etc.I am thinking of selling one ounce of gold so i can afford flights + accom now instead of waiting another 3-4 weeks for that amount of savings to accumulate.

I have a question for the guys with Stahlwille sockets. I have not been able to use them twice now. the first nut was on a 1977 BMW cylinder, had to get a 1/2 12PT. The next was today on a 1981 vw rabbit truck, it was an 11MM. a little grubby, but the twelve point wrench by Stahlwille fit These six points sockets seem a little tight. I tried the 1/4 Stahlwille 11MM socket as well as the 3/8 11MM stahlwille.

I think I figured out my issue with fit on the 11mm on the vw fuel pump. I have been told twice that the fuel pump is 10MM not 11mm ever. I believe someone changed the 10mm out for SAE so the stahlwille sockets are all good, JBW

I think they are identical. At least in the case of the pictured Lux pliers. I think they simply attach different handles to the finished pliers so they can take them from the stock. Hence you mostly find no more names which are forged into the pliers, in most cases they are printed on the pliers or laser engraved on the metal part of the pliers or the only brand name is on the handles which are made to customers specs or the simplest way is to print the brand name on handles without a molded name.
There is a cheaper "Lux" version also from NWS which come with simple red/black handles and a ground/black painted finish on the metal part. So i think to make the pliers cheaper they use cheaper to make handles and skip processing steps. The former "Lux" pliers supplied by "Will" had a ground bare metal finish too and you could even see the bluish metal from the heat treatment so they skip sand blasting + plating to remove the blue color and to protect the pliers from rusting. I think that are the main differences. To use cheaper steel and/or to skip heat treatment or any further cost reducing measures would drastically reduce the lifetime/longevity/quality i guess and wouldn´t fulfill the valid DIN norms so this probably is not possible/allowed or wouldn´t reduce the production cost much because the difference between cheap steel and good steel will be a few cents for the few grams a plier weights. The processing/manufacturing costs are the expensive parts like forging, assembly, grinding, broaching, plating etc. so the cost will be the same to actually make the pliers no matter if you use cheap or more expensive steel.
The Lux pliers are actually more expensive than the original from NWS.

Yes, that's the 180 in silver. My personal toolbox. But the lift is actually the gem in the picture as far as tools are concerned.
