I'm in the market for some... Considering NWS micro-line, Knipex, or anything else I can find... Lindstrom is pricey compared to these brands.

I have a pair of the Knipex round nose jeweler's pliers, and they're not the best I've seen. The tips aren't exactly round... It's a shame, because I'm a HUGE fan of Knipex.

Well, it's hard to say. They're different.
Thanks for your opinion ! Sounds like a tie. Best would be a complete line up of both brands it seems to be completely happy :)

They want to concentrate on their core business, so they are preparing this branch for sale - that´s how i read it, anyway...possible buyers could be some swedish investment group, a employee fund, or maybe Stihl or Husqvarna?:
ok that would make sense, if they want to sell the business unit....change the brand name... never have seen any of their products here though.... the one store still has everything Bahco labeled....Husqvarna already owns Gardena brand from Germany, i dunno if it makes sense to add another brand since there are already so many established garden/forestry/axe brands like Gardena, Wolf, Fiskars, Ideal, Freund, Felco, Gränsfors, Berger, Hultafors....and more....but i hope they will continue to produce here in Europe...

Yup, very nice!
I noticed that the combination pliers are a bit stiff, just as you mentioned some hundred pages ago :) But just on the second half opening. For the first half they open easier. Could this be a design feature and not a bug?
a small bug i guess.....but if the bug is only very small..... :) but i had this with other pliers too.....NWS...Knipex....so VBW is not the only one...

The company I bought the pliers from also sells Stahlwille, Felo, Normex, Scala and... Proxxon. Proxxon is pretty well regarded here and compared to all the junk we get here their tools are actually good, but IMO you can get better quality for about the same price or same quality for less money (like Multisystem/Topas for sockets and Wiha for drivers, just a couple of examples).
That´s right, Proxxon tools are very common over here too and i guess almost everybody here has some of their tools. What i don´t like somehow are their ratchets.....

Hello, I'm new here, but still want to show my latest tools
"Used" for 50€
awesome tool set + price :eyecrazy:

VIRAX: Toolbags made in china, rest made in France.
very nice tools !!!

Does anybody know about MELEU brand from Germany, quality etc?
Also the same question about the DDR 16-18mm double ended flat ring wrench and what is Super Steel?
Meleu is/was a brand from east germany/GDR. They´re still active it seems:
http://www.mon.de/dd/metallwerk-leutersdorf

i don´t know what super steel is, but you can see it on many wrenches from the GDR/DDR

With special thanks to Monte!
i only re-posted the link :)
but thanks to Felo for the awesome free driver and for making such awesome tool !

maybe :D
but many employee here did not appreciated their good quality tools..so nowadays the employer just gave them the China made junk tools :lol_hitti
see below, Belzer is one of the victims
what a shame... it seems you need to look for another employer :D ;)
sweeeeeeeeet !! twin sisters :) very beautiful crafted boxes !
do you keep both ??? So who is the OEM ? Trusco ?
Germany + Japan :)
a combination of the best :D ;)
The most stupid thing I've seen in my new workplace
someone cut the open-ended side to insert a pipe :headscrat: :lol_hitti:
:(
It's a Germany made Belzer, collectable item and very rare to find it, I need to find all the Belzer tools here and keep it in the safe place.
nnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ........... blasphemy !!! .............not Belzer....

I don't know... kind of threw me off when it said Swedish tool steel, then claimed to be German, with a brand named after a Mexican river... lol.
That´s globalization :)

That's why I have a full set of 3/8" drive stuff from Stahlwille and a full set of 1/2" drive from Gedore (and I have a 1/4" drive set from Beta that I got for cheap when they were pulling out of the US)

EDIT: Ignore the query -now answered. I've found out they're 20+yrs old and made in RSA. I'll leave the photos up in case they're any use to someone else.

Gedore experts, school me on these spanners please :)

Here's what I'm looking at:

They're different so I'm wondering if the ones in the set are exceptionally old, or made outside of Germany?

Tool in action: (sorry for the blurry pictures)
Checking the live wire (220 v) with BRENNENSTUHL 1297150 Electronic Tester. You can check only the live wire for electricity ...

BRENNENSTUHL_1297150_Electronic_Tester_001_zpsb94a156f.jpg

... or the whole cable, but in this case you must grab the front metal end of the tool. In either cases when electricity available the LED starts blinking. You can use the tool also as a flashlight via the little black button under the LED.

that a nice looking tools, how about the prices?

The Ko-Ken extensions were around £32, the KTC tools came to £50, all including postage.

Nice Toyo/TRUSCO boxes, what made you go with the different brands for the same box?

What is the lowest tool for? The one with the bent tip.

It's used for removing/installing return (and other) springs.

You'd do yourself the biggest favor if you take a look at Schmitz IMHO (they're actually the ODM for NWS's ESD series, as well as others). It would mean ordering directly from the manufacturer in Germany, but it's easy, and actually less expensive. VERY well made too, and better than most, including Lindstrom or Tronex in regard to pliers (didn't order their cutters, so I don't have direct experience with them).

If you want to read a review, take a look here (blog is from a member here), and there are others covered as well (NWS's economy line, Tronex, and CK <which is also made by Schmitz>). Just scroll down. ;)

Hope this helps. :)

Picked up 4 prs for $117.49 (includes shipping and currency conversion via PayPal).

BTW, shipping is a flat rate, so the more you order, the cheaper it will be per pair. VAT will vanish once you enter your address (when you select "United States").

Those look super nice! I might hold off on getting pliers for now... I just ordered a Proxxon rotary tool and I'm debating on getting the MicroMot drill press stand with it.

I've decided to learn German, so I've been on German websites lately... some of the price differences of stuff here in the States and over there are quite drastic.

Vielen Dank für die Informationen nanofrog! :)

Nichts zu danken. :)

Proxxon is really nice stuff, and should hold up well. MicroMot too from what I understand.

Where the price works out in favor of Schmitz, is they're missing the markup added by the companies that are rebranding their products (instead of increasing their MSRP's to similar figures as their client companies sell for, in to run up their margins on what they sell directly). So the old adage of buying direct, still works in this case. I love finding stuff like this, as I get quality products without feeling like I'm bleeding. :bounce:

And then there's the ability to toss the VAT without going through hoops in their webstore, making it more attractive for US buyers IMHO. :rocker:

Yeah definitely... I usually try to buy direct on everything as well.

Hazet and gedore are almost twice the money when buying in the states.

I noticed! Some of the Euro pricing was amazing... I actually considered if it was counterfeit. I've heard of counterfeit stuff but can't tell the difference...

There are counterfeit out there it is posted on hazets website what to what out for. But if you go to the tools stores, they have good prices that are pretty close to some of the good online stops.

Hi,

I have received today this nice little hand ratchet from Toptul.
The ratchet mechanism it's very smooth with very little resistance.
The size overall it's quite small, maybe uncomfortable for people with large hands.
It's supposed to hold 350kgf-cm, this is about 34Nm, quite impressive for such a little tool.
On one side you can drive a bit and on the other side a 1/4 socket.
What could be improved it's the handle, anodized aluminium, a rubber grip would be better. The aluminium it's a little bit slippery but looks good.
Overall i'm happy with the quality and the money paid for it.

Regards,
R25

That's from Hazet's budget line which I think doesn't exist anymore. Not exactly sure what all the differences of the budget line are though.

I tried researching it and was told it's old stock, never knew they had a budget line except for Vigor... I've noticed a swarm of old stock being sold recently.

Some new arrivals today (more to follow) from Tooled-up:

Wiha PH & PZ 1-4 plus a shedload of slots (anybody need some Wiha slots?)
View media item 28577
Format cold chisel (made in Germany)
View media item 28578
This was sold as Format, but labelled Osborn Pro and made in Germany

Format 13/17mm offset spanner. Bought very cheaply to see what they were like. No indication of COO, but initial impression of quality and finish is very good. It's stout (thick, nicely rounded beam), feels solid and has no noteworthy flaws - I think I'd be happy with a set.

Edit: I found a site online selling Format that states the spanners are "Machined in GEDORE Vanadium 31 CrV 3 mat. no. 1.2208". I've compared to my one Gedore offset spanner and the shape and relative mass are very similar. I know the Format hammers are rebranded Gedore/Habero.

This is a German set ( or come from another European country)? For here is so difficult find bit sets made in Europe? by example metabo version made in Taiwan.

there is no coo on the set... the set only makes sense if you have a Festool drill since the included bit holder is a "Festool Centrotec" version which means the hex part is not 1/4" (6,35mm) but 6,25mm.....

There are Metabo bit sets "Made in CZ" (by Wera obviously)http://www.metabo.de/Zubehoerkatalog-handgefuehrte-Elektrowerkzeuge.23746+M59d815b081b.0.html
(the first 9 sets)

There are many choices....: for example Wera (czech), Witte (German), Felo (German), Wiha (German/Vietnam), USH (German), Wekador (German)... there is also Schröder (German) and Gedore, Stahlwille + Hazet also offer german made bits. Facom is french i think. There is also a spanish manufacturer and PB Swiss from switzerland...and many many rebranded sets from "Spax", "Heco" and and and....

....as well as (some) german made Makita sets...:

How many of you guys own Felo screwdrivers and use them a lot?

After heavy use in a day, my PH1 black oxide coating is worn...

Don't worry about the coating, they all wear off fairly quickly, even Wera's laser tip gimmick.

I have a set of Felo Frico screwdrivers that are well over 10 years old now. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

They certainly haven't been spared any mercy and have been used a lot over the years, but are still holding up strong.

The PZ2 is starting to show its age. Is grand for new screws but wouldn't have the same grip on rusty ones and has recently been retired (thanks to the Felo free sample).

The 4mm slot has been straightened up with a sharpening stone a couple of times. It's the one that battles with all the seized terminal screws.

The rest are just worn in - i.e. they have lost their sharp corners that new screwdrivers have which rips your skin if they ever slip.

Rubber handles are still excellent.

I guarantee you will not be disappointed with your Felo purchase.

I picked up some Wera VDE lasertips several months back when I had to do some wiring in the garage. First impression was "Wow these are amazing; They really feel like they bite into the screw!", but from lofty heights come long falls, as a handful of screws later I was effectively left with a decent, but laser-tip-free screwdriver. Bummer... :(

I have a set of PH/slotted 1 & 2 Wera VDE screwdrivers and to be honest I'm impressed at all. Not long after I started using them they started wearing of quite a bit.

Let me see if I can take a picture... Maybe it's normal? I've never owned black oxide tipped screwdrivers.

I do like them though! :)

Thanks for information Monte, in fact, the "felo all star" set catch my attention, and Amazon have some offers, maybe can do a buy in this days

Another old and forgotten wrench in my father's garage, in the beginning was very rusty, but I must admit after cleaning that look in a better condition than I was thinking. I keep this as part of a collection.

the bit sets are nice ! Do you already have a bit holder ?
... The problem with the (small) bit sets is there is always a bit size missing......

Yes, I already have the Snap On Ratcheting Screwdriver, but I have some problems with the ratcheting mechanism when I apply some torque (I had to repair the mechanism in several occasions). So, I must use a picquic Screwdriver or Hazet conventional screwdriver
