better pic of the small screwie please?
As you wish:

It seems that the 'Connex' labeled screwdrivers are made by Robert or Walter Schröder.
In this case the 'Connex' 0,8x4x25 it is a
Robert Schröder Exagon-Stubby 0.156.0
or a
Walter Schröder Stubby 140403.

Very sad that the Erdi has no coo on them.
But I found no 'Made in Germany' mark on the Knipex high leverage combo pliers either as I checked yesterday.
Maybe Monte, as always, knows best. :)

Nice one.

It looks like bits can be stored in the handle, correct ?
How many ?

You are correct. Two more bits in the handle. The third was in there as well, but they were jammed (I dropped it in a cup of hot water to get them out) so that may have been a fluke, or maybe two is the design limit.

What are you looking for? For example, Snap-On makes a few tools in Portugal. Or you want genuine Portuguese brands? Like http://www.ferramentasmateus.pt/antoniomateus.htm ?
yeah original manufacturers like Tome Feteira

Oh, do you have a photo of the Craftsman toolbox?

Looks great, and your Monte Carlo seems like it's coming along great too
btw. it´s the 1961 Chevy Impala of a buddy :)

I went to the 2nd hand tool shops this Saturday. Picked up some fine old world tools:
very nice finds !!!!:pimpflash:thumbup:

Where did you find it? Is this an older or new item? I google it and find only one in ebay.de in blue and one more in red from a Polish site. It is very nice!
it´s an very old item. I got it from here:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Bithalter-Ge...n_Heimwerker_Handwerkzeug&hash=item1c3d7532f6

I found a lovely Connex branded tin snip with two compund handles.
made by NWS

has the Bessey/Erdi production been outsourced to some far far far away land of crappy toolmaking??? :(
lower priced Bessey snips like the 20 - 25 euro models are from Taiwan. I´ve also seen "Assembled in Germany" and "Made in Germany".

Very sad that the Erdi has no coo on them.
But I found no 'Made in Germany' mark on the Knipex high leverage combo pliers either as I checked yesterday.
Maybe Monte, as always, knows best. :)
The newer Erdi packages should have a coo on the back. The cheaper ones are from Taiwan....
no coo on the inside of the Knipex handles ???

Question: What do you get the Facom-fan who has... well not everything but certainly an awful lot?
a Hello Kitty sticker album ? :D

Answer: Our very own exceptionally-considerate, galactically-inclined bearcat, Cosmic Binturong has surprised me with this lovely miniature Facom screwdriver:

View media item 39686
Pictured also is the very envelope it arrived in, demonstrating that he is every bit as whimsical as he is thoughtful. In a very manic and stressful week of work, this made me chuckle, and so for the smile as much as the gift, I say "Merci beaucoup, mon ami!" (Before anyone replies en Francais; Despite being from a bilingual country, I am, ashamedly, entirely singular in my linguistic capacity).

you're right! it's not easy to find nice Facom stuff that you do not already have in one of the numerous drawers of that lovely Lista blue box of yours...

anyway, i couldn't let this small, NOS, AMR in a shop that will be closing soon. happy to see that it has found a good home.

Hello Kitty! stationery being in my experience almost never stolen, lost by the post or opened by customs is thereby the safest way to send small stuff overseas...

I’m was going to try to go to the tool show in Cologne next year but it looks like it won’t be until 2016?

http://www.koelnmesse.com/en/messen...rtBy=datum&sortType=ASC&page=1&maxPerPage=100

Anyone by the way, have any suggestions on what would be the best equivalent or superior to the Apex sockets (1/2” drive with a 3/8” hex bit) for assembly or industrial use on an impact gun? I wish I would’ve had time to check it out this year and see all the offerings. The Apex I got are still top notch and presumably made in the USA but I’m always interested in hearing what else is out there.

I guess Cologne’s got a lot of good trade shows and Dusseldorf’s apparently got others.

Why did they essentially copy a stereotypical Taiwanese ratchet head design...like a Titan or Tekton brand? Where's the German-ness to that?....besides the handle. :dunno:

What does the underside of that ratchet look like? Is the direction lever fastened by a screw or does it look like a sleeved pin securing it?

Also, are the sockets retained only by a single through-hole...or do they actually have detents on the other sides?

ratchet in the locked position both pawls are engaged

yes they have detents on all sides, would be annoying like hell if not.

looks nicely purtier from that side, albeit a bit portly-lookin', mine is on the way. :D
for 43 euros shipped i wont mind the bigger head since it's about the price of a nice, Taiwan-made, quality 1/4" ratchet set here.

lotsa before and then lotsa more after.

i once sent a complete custom bike with lotsa Hello Kitty! stickers on the box to a friend in Canada and she was astoundingly astonished that the notoriously finicky and ever vigilant canuckian customs didn't charge *any* taxes on it. didn't push my luck a second time though...

thanks for the interesting links Euromerc

So the "The ONLY British Made Tinsnip." no longer applies, it is the old site before going out of business.

It does seem curious that the closure was reported in May 2009, and then in October 2009 the prior owners re-open after "Footprint Tools entered voluntary liquidation back in May"

<<Sheffield-based hand tools brand Footprint has recommenced production at its Sedgley Road site in Owlerton, Sheffield under the name Footprint Sheffield, the former holding company of Footprint Tools>>

Wonder how the workers fared?

Oh Monte, you are right, as always.
I was back at Obi to look for something and the Knipex has on the inside the 'MADE IN GERMANY' sign.
But in my defence it was very poorly embossed on the model I saw last time.

The problem at the time was land here, even in inner cities went from being worth nothing to a fortune as the property bubble inflated (the whole UK economy is built around property - we don't really make anything or do much), so loads of smaller firms, but with bigish factories gave up.

When I heard that Footprint were no more I invested a few of their tools.

Some are just branded, the Footprint hammers are made in Leeds by someone else.

That Alpen drills are ****, once I bought with 5 stars to drill in old stone house. The drill bit immediately dull.

Oh I had not noticed the detail of the stars, mine has just three :scared:... I think I used to pierce concrete walls and partitions, I hope I have better luck :D.... I will tell how I will ;)

Here I put together with the other Star Rubicon I have, the length of the rod in both is 6 inches, but the cream is bigger by the length of the handle

The Apex/Geta tools seems to be used over here too. Maybe Koken would be an option. They make impact sockets with exchangeable bits in different sizes. Not only for 1/4" bits but also 5/16", 11mm and 16mm.

The Automechanika fair http://automechanika.messefrankfurt.com in Frankfurt might be interesting too. Car parts, tools and shop equipment...

@Monte, what do you think about this Metabo hammer http://www.ebay.de/itm/Metabo-Kombi...maschinen_Schraubendreher&hash=item565f519e89 ? Is this Made in Germany? In comparation with other producers of 800W hammers?

Do you know where is made this Boschhammer http://www.ebay.de/itm/Bosch-PBH-30...maschinen_Schraubendreher&hash=item3a8d854a5f ? Thanks :)
I think the Metabo is made in Germany. I´m not a big fan of the exchangeable chuck though. The runout is not as good as with a fixed chuck. It´s useful though...
Some people of a german tool forum visited the Metabo factory a while ago and could test their tools against competitors and the visitors were surprised how powerful the Metabo rotary hammers were compared to other brands.

yes i own this Dewalt http://www.dewalt.fi/powertools/productdetails/catno/D28886/info/specifications/
(it´s an Metabo GE700 https://www.google.de/search?q=ge70...eHtAbcioGABg&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=612)
The Dewalt/Metabo models have a spindle lock. They also have "constant speed electronics" as well as the Bosch GGS 28 LCE, Suhner USG 33-R + USC 25-R, Hitachi GP 3V and Makita GD0800C. The Flex H 1127 VE, Milwaukee DGL 30 E and Rupes AR 38EN don´t have that feature so they will be weaker. Suhner USG 33-R will be the most powerful i guess (1050 Watt input). Unfortunately not all manufacturers disclose the output power. Fein will come out with new models in 2015 i heard. Bosch, Suhner, Flex and Metabo are made in Germany. The spindle lock make the Dewalt + Metabo models interesting. Because of the features, the price/performance ratio (at least in english shops :)) and power in the upper end range i think i nowadays would choose the Metabo GE 710.
(btw. my Dewalt is for sale...)
