Finally got my order from Mister Worker, some Hazet ratchet wrench adapters and Stahlwille locking extensions. I'm looking to upgrade my extensions and didn't have any locking ones so I thought I'd try these. The locking mechanism is unobtrusive and easy to use. I might just get all locking ones instead of regular ones at this point at the expense of my wallet.

That’s great. If it’s convenient, could you please provide the exact model number?

Additionally, I’d like to ask whether Stahlwille offers two different product series of locking extensions with distinct structural designs: one featuring a recessed button integrated into the shaft, and another featuring a button that protrudes from the shaft body.

Picked these up used. I can't believe how well they still strip and cut. Smoother than my Weicons and VBW.
Early version of the Stripax.

I believe these originally came with a removable wire brush here in the handle:

You might want to exercise that a few times (also at different settings) and see if it actually releases every time. I have one of these in one of my kits and even though the dealer already sorted through a few before shipping me mine, it still hangs/ won’t release from time to time. These are (were?) notoriously known for that behavior, sadly.

Kind regards,
Olli

The Hazet wrench adapters are great but you need good ratcheting wrenches (with switch) to pair them with, I tried many and ended with Facom. In the end, there's a Gedore red set (previously Carolus) with ratcheting wrenches that includes these 4 adapters and comes a bit cheaper with negligible difference in quality compared to Hazet + Facom 10, 13, 19 wrenches. But with the Gedore set you get 8 12 ratcheting wrenches for the price.

The Stahlwille locking extensions are great, they were cheap on Amazon de but sadly not anymore. I am missing a short 3/8" for spark plugs

Edited for pics of comparable Gedore red set, seems to sell for about 100eur which is not at all bad IMO

EDIT 2: Theres a smaller set with 8 wrenches and adapters for about 80eur

Got three different hinge design 160mm long Knipex cutters now:

IMG_6457.JPEG

IMG_6458.JPEG

The box joint 73 02 160 are the last ones I got. They seem to be very precision made, no wobble at all and the box join will of course help with that a lot. They are not too tight and I'm sure they'll loosen up with time like my other two did.

I did not measure it but I assume the box joint design allows for a thinner pin and less wall thickness, so the pivot is probably the closest to the cutter edge on those.

Known as X-Cut. I have only those.

Would be interested to hear some practical comparisons of force required to cut different items. I seem to remember some numbers
in kg or newtons being published.

The difference in handle shapes is also interesting.

That’s not a “box joint”.
That’s a “solid joint” or sometimes “boxed joint”.
An actual plier “Box Joint” has one leg passing thru a slit or slot in the other plier leg, similar to the Knipex Cobra or alligator or Twingrip pliers.
Large pliers used yo be made with actual box joints, sometimes, but most rarely are nowadays due to the extra cost of manufacture.
The now discontinued Channellock 349 was an example of a true box joint, although Channellock seems to have forgotten what the term means.
Jewelers pliers for precision work is were true box joints are still routinely seen. (And roofer’s tongs for bending sheet metal for larger pliers).

Do we have any members that are over in Italy that might be able to source any Auto Body / Panel Beating / Body Hammers that are Italian Made or Vintage? Looking for Beta, USAG, etc., but if anyone has something cool from a body shop in Italy, I'd definitely be interested in sourcing. We've got a lot of Italian in the family and would be cool to have a piece of kit from the old country.

But that is exactly what the 73 02 160 Knipex X-cut are. A true solid fixed box joint with a fork-and-knife pivot setup.

That’s a neat set Monte, I take it it’s referred to as safety that in the US we call it security. Love the metal box, thanks for sharing.
yes i think it is commonly called "security bit set". In germany it´s called "Sicherheits bit set" and you can translate "Sicherheit" to "security" or "safety".....

They offer a "normal" and "micro" bit set in a metal box too:

:D i only have a few Gedore tools......ratchets, chrome sockets, wrenches, impact sockets, hex keys, extensions, screwdrivers, combination pliers, locking pliers, waterpump pliers..... - they don´t count :ROFLMAO:
But i think "Orangina" is the Hazet Kaiser anyway....(y):) Maybe i´m count Hazet or prince Hazet... :p:D;)

Positively surprised that it is made in Germany. Looks sleek and sturdy made for these things.
yeah that was a big surprise. I don´t think there is another german manufacturer of these left.
Is that a “clicky” ratchet, or a roller ratchet?
it´s clicky.
Feels similar like the Snappy i would say. Ratcheting is a bit louder though. Smoother than Bahco. No comparison with Gedore though ;) :D

^ I was curious as to what the "feel" is like on that handle. Is it grippy grippy? Or kind of smooth? Or squishy?
Looks well-proportioned.
It´s like the Wiha screwdrivers. Black = grippy / Red = slippy

Does anyone know if Stahlwille put out a catalog for VW Type 1 Beetle tools like Hazet did?

Does anyone know if Stahlwille put out a catalog for VW Type 1 Beetle tools like Hazet did?
Stahlwille in their main catalogue did list sets of tools for VW and other prominently German marques. I have a number of their old catalogues and product sheets in English. Been collecting their tools for a while . I’m on the way to having a complete set of the set in the Rollmaster they listed for Porsche aircioled in the early mid seventies.

Some examples of papers from my shelf

Just few examples from my old Stahlwille Manoskop collection. While outmoded the mkp and cmkp scale is aligned to the values for torque published in Porsche factory workshops manuals for my car. Presumably that same old world measurement system was used for air-cooled VW factory publications at that time?
