Wera had that new ratcheting screwdriver at SEMA a couple of weeks ago. I like the push button at the handle base to expose the bit storage and the overall feel and balance. However, I wished the screwdriver would accept differen blade lengths instaed of just the one length.:(

thanks monte! you also reminded me I "need" a wera bitratchet...

Also good to see wera promoted Ralf Joesch!;)

Yes you need it ! :D

Ralf who ??? :)

Also was any of the dewalts there made in Germany? I've been looking locally and couldn't find a German Dewalt XRP like Moose has.

The Dewalt XRP models are from the czech republic iirc. I think he means the adress which is printed on the labels on the tools:

Dewalt
65502 Idstein
Germany

If you look at the online spare parts list on the Dewalt website you can see where most of their tools are from or at least where the parts are made.

http://service.dewalt.co.uk/Products/ProductParts.aspx?ProductID=8584

Simply click on any part number to see where the part of this Dewalt DC987K "XRP" 18 volt drill is made. For me they´re made in czech republic.

If you want a german made Dewalt tool you could buy their diamond core drills which looks like this or buy their Metabo made detail sander (click) or one of the 4 Metabo made finishing sanders(click) . They also once offered a straight grinder "Made in Germany" by Metabo and still offer a 6" random orbital sander by Metabo.

Yeah that would be a good idea to combine the ratcheting screwdriver with a Wera "Kompakt 20" and a adjustable length blade feature.

wera.jpg

But since they don´t offer it and if you need a shorter length you could use the short ratcheting screwdriver with the rapidaptor chuck and add different length bits... Wera offers several bits in 25, 50, 70, 89, 110, 127, 152 mm length......The short one don´t have a bit holder though...

Monte,

A while back in time , I sold a lot of Wera and USAG. They were 6mm hex shanks of course and wouldn't swap/fit our 6.3mm common stuff.
I liked it better anyway though :) Still have some.

Do you have a pic of your router ?

Not yet, but I'll take some pics next week-end! Actually it has its place in this thread, it's made in Belgium! Probably my only belgian tool...

Cantause,

Is this file handle made in Italy? Your Vallorbe one is identical to the older Nicholson file handles which, quite surprisingly, are made in Italy.

BTW, nice purchases.

Hi! I can't be 100% sure but I think it's made in Switzerland, it has "Swiss" on the handle but no "made in...". I know that watch-maker can only put "Swiss" on their products when they're made in Switzerland, or at least when a specified minimum of manufacturing process are done there. I don't know if it's true with any other products, maybe a swiss member could help us, or GeorgeK could ask to his nephew who works for Vallorbe??? :)

@Cantause

Where did you buy the files ???

What does the "Warning" say on the clamps ???? Warning: Don´t use the clamps ? :D ?

I got them from Axeminster in the UK, it was the only place in europe where they were available online and at affordable price (around 6-7€ for 250mm)
Here is the direct link to their hand files

If you plan to buy some files there, I don't recommend you to buy Vallorbe's handles, they're quite expensive (6,67€) and have nothing special except that you screw the file in it. I bought 3 of them just to try, they're quite small (and I don't have big hands). I prefer the Axeminster's wood handles (125mm are perfect, 150mm are too big for me), files are well tightened and they're cheap (0,8€), if I had known I would have bought more files and only wood handles...
Axeminster's plastic/rubber handles with adaptors are nice too...

Concerning the clamps:

:bounce: No, but you're close, it's

"Warning, using this clamp for clamping something will void warranty" :lol_hitti Haaa german quality...

Seriously, it warns you about the injury risks when improperly used, such as pulling, lifting,...

Btw I ordered a Rodac oil pan this morning, an 8 liters models, 18€+vat (I'll take the 30 liters for the first oil change of my Ferari:bounce:) and asked for a few more floor jack's prices

Would someone know some quality (if possible european) brands for middle size electric generators?
My brother needs 2 generators around 7,5 kva, I did some researchs but it seems that it's between small transportable units and large diesel generators. It's an auxiliary power supply for his servers in case of long blackout, so they must have an electric starter, they will have to start without assistance (they will be stored in a warm room though).

Thanks!

Maybe Monte will have some insight;

I was at Aldis on saturday picking up various junk for upcoming holiday, saw some combo wrench sets for like $5.99, "ToolCraft" if I remember correctly, no metrics so I didn't get them, but had the GS and a few other German safety stamps on the packaging, made in India - looked ALOT like Stahlwille "Stronger than any Bolt" combos... thoughts? I'll try to stop by and get a pick this week... Oh, and they had a three plier set w/ a monkey wrench that looks like a Kukko/Matador/VBW/etc..., a adj. channel plier that looks exactly like a Knipex gator, and a pair of needle nose that look like my bahcos... all made in tiawan... intersting stuff - the channel plier's similarity to Knipex was striking. The casting was down pat, I mean the only difference was the blue handle vs. red and instead of "Germany" cast into the neck it had "Taiwan"...

Yes you need it ! :D

Ralf who ??? :)

It was a joke, some guy was promoted to be overseas sales vp at wera, read it in the newsletter you sent me a link of when I asked about the knipex/were/Stabila joint venture... nevermind.

Oh, one more: I assume KSTools are all made in Taiwan or where ever else, just not germany, right?

AND: http://www.cens.com/cens/html/en/news/news_inner_34390.html - pretty interesting report on Taiwan Tool Co's at the 2010 Automechanika Frankfurt Show.

zer0cell: I have to admit that avatar is pretty cool... I've been thinking about redrawing mine once I get my desktop PC back

Thanks for your opinion; by the way, nothing like a desktop PC (much better than laptops).

Hi Servito,

As others have mentioned, great avatar. It got me wondering if it was Knipex's crest from decades ago. :D

If you haven't read it yet, here's one of my earliest posts dedicated to the Kompakt driver: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28001&highlight=kompakt It should give you a better idea of the quality.

Over the years, I've used it on several occassions to make adjustments on household hardware and assembling some furniture. The bayonet, in full extension does have some play, but it's at a level that doesn't annoy me or hinder me from completing the job at hand. I'm sure Monte, who has the Wiha System 6 ....or 4? can chime in as well. He actually measured the amount of play on that, and IIRC, it had minimal play.

The composite material is robust enough; I've never been worried about the strength of the gripping area. The only thing that annoyed me was when, some time earlier this year, I hit the "PRESS" button and the thing opened up only half way. I had to manually assist it to open all the way. I did spray some dry PTFE spray to reduce friction between the peices and it's since been working fine.

The SEK is made by the same company that makes the Wera version. I don't have the receipt in front of me, but I think it was around $20 with that red case and a super low-profile PH#2 bit. I don't have a picture of it, but it's even shallower than the Anex PH#2 pictured below. FWIW, I don't use the Wera BDC (diamond coated) bits anymore, unless I know it's going to be a stuck fastener--the coating wears off with not much use on it.

I've also used this guy for dis/assembly of some furniture and a couple times in an automotive setting, and it was fine (low torque usesage). I'm very happy with it.

Well Superautobacs, in fact I could make a new one for Knipex if they paid me :bounce:, I would just need some pictures from older Knipex tools. Thanks for my avatar compliment.

I was thinking about getting the Kraftform Kompakt, but maybe at a later time, since I'll be ordering some Wera screw drivers sets.
I didn't know that the diamond coating wore off easily, I have six of those bits (new), but as I'm plenty of other bits, I feel I'll keep them new.

And for the ratchet, I have just ordered a couple like yours but from Gedore; hope it will handle better than Wera counterpart.

And thanks again for your info.

Isn´t "Taurus" from Aldi ???? Found some posts about Taurus at Aldi......

i thought you might have some Virutex tools :)
Surprisingly there are only 2 Virutex tools on ebay.es !?? Not very common in Espana ?

I think you might not be right about Aldi and Taurus, it is not that I know that for sure, but after looking at the "Taurus Aldi" logo and the logo from the taurus which I mean (www.taurus.es), they don't seem the same; it may just be another brand.

I'm sad to disappoint you, but haven't got any Virutex tool, and don't know wether it is very common among wood professionals.

Yeah, hopefully GeorgeK could find out for us. I just thought it's interesting to see the exact same handle offered by Vallorbe.

Yeah, since you have the choice, I'd just keep the BDC bits for "special" useage only.

I hope they suit you, too. :)

Nice Bosch grinder !!
ps: The Metabo units are made in Germany !
AFAIK Kress is not available in the US. They sell Kress tools in Panama :) They have 110 Volt.... :) Should work on 120 Volts too. So maybe the next holiday trip should go there ;) You also could contact Kress if they can send you a 120 Volt tool directly. www.kress-elektrik.com
The Kress die grinders are nice - metal gear housing and double ball bearings at the spindle in the front, and one bearing in the back.

i have no clue about these things, i only know some brands like Geko and Eisemann www.din-stromerzeuger.de there is Endress www.endress-stromerzeuger.de Kirsch www.kirsch-energie.de and SET www.set-zeise.de
I think they´re all made in Germany. "Eisemann" is a famous name - they once belonged to Bosch. Geko + Endress seem to be well known too. The two other i found in the net.

I´m not a fan of knock-offs..... I personally also don´t support these companies.... Quality is most often also not the same than the originator.
I also had these tools once, prices are good like 2.99 or 3.99 for pliers but they´re too disappointing after you have used NWS pliers for example, there is still someone who can do it better... at a higher price of course.

I agree.... I just thought it interesting that the packaging was in german/english, had a few german safety stamps on them, etc... I was going to pick them up for the novelty alone... i too don't subscribe to the cheap tool newsletter, unless in an emergency and no other options exist, or the product is the same sans the "name"...

Those Pferd handles are nice looking.

There's also the Bahco handles. I have a few of them and they're great; pretty cheap, too. Made in Portugal.

193362_Ergo_Handle.jpg

RE: the Wera shank size.
I'm glad that they are 1/4" / 6.35mm now, instead of the older 6mm from the Vario line. I wasn't too happy when I got my Vario blade, thinking it would be interchangeable with the other interchangeable driver that I had. :(

Monk,

Thanks for the CENS link.
That article supports recent outlook mentioned by a Japanese hand-tool industry insider: that the tide has apparently shifted back to sourcing Taiwan-based manufacturers instead of Chinese (as far as hand tools go). For the consumers, that means we should start seeing more Taiwanese made hand tools in the market.

It's sad that there were only a few Japanese tool makers who showed up for that fair (the Cologne fair that Monte went to also had a low attendance from Japan). But perhaps the tide will change once again, where Japan will be sourced for tools, like it was back in the 1970s. Will history will repeat itself? :D

Here's something a bit different: a typical Japanese style garden shear that i've owned for some time. I've used it for its intended environment, but I've also noticed that it cuts rubber hoses cleanly, so I also keep one in the toolbox.

I think it's a beautiful design.

Knipex look-a-likes are quite common here - never saw Stahlwille clones though !!! That would be interesting !!

Comfy for sure, and it doesn't stink either.

I think it'll be a while before I start seeing the new handles on store shelves here.

BTW, I don't know if Corradi files have been mentioned here before.

For anyone interested in the Screw Gripper from Wera that Monte posted above, the part # is 05018501002. My last purchase from Chads (probably my last one from there) included that item. Cool little gizmo. Haven't had the need for it yet, but just had to have it. :D

I would've bought that 4-in-1, dog-bone-like wrench, too. I cool peice of tool history. hrmm, Monte-X :D

I have sometimes read from people having problems with Chads, but what happened to you with Chads?

I, once, was about to make a purchase there, but after reading from other people problems, and the shipping costs, decided to opt for another alternative.

By the way, that Wera holder seems pretty expensive for a piece of plastic (or this is what it seems to me to be made of). Between 8-10€ is too much.

here too :) Just picked up the new Bahco promo flyer last wednesday shortly after the Bahco sales representative left the flyers there so they seem to be brand new and it will take a while until the old stock is sold (couldnd´t find them in the i-net either) They also have a "go through" socket set now with flex head ratchet and a new wrench design.

Why do you want to buy euro stuff in the US ?? :)

the plastic holder should be around 3.80€ + sales tax :)
The 2 piece (red) VDE set 7.60€ + tax (one for small diameter blades (4,5-6mm) the other for larger blades (6,5-8mm).

That Bahco set just has to have been made in Chinermany or Swedewan.

I wanted to buy there because I was looking for some Knipex Cobra pliers (the smaller ones), and it was there, where it seemed to me, the best price was.
The best price, of course, in a web in English; I'm learning German, but at this moment it is still a bit difficult to me to read a web page all in German.

The VDE is almost 11€ in Amazon.de, a bit too much, I think.

Hmmmmmm, thank you for the compliment, now I'm more "selbstwebußt"; if you are able to understand what I have written in German, it means I'm not doing so bad ;) :bounce: (no translation program at all has been used :))

Thank you for the links, but I finally got it here in Barcelona; I found it in two stores, in one it was about 19€ while in the other about 27€ (what a difference).

By the way, I took the plunge and made some tool shopping through Amazon.de; in the SMDV shop (where I found the best prices) bought some Knipex pliers and Wera Rapidaptor holder; and through e-bay, some NWS pliers. There is nothing that hasn't been posted here (pictures), but I will post them here anyway.

In my avatar, the eagle's claws are my Cobra 300mm, while at the upper side are the 125mm Cobra :).

Monte or anybody else (of course), do you know how good those pliers are?
Because I wanted to get a pair of those.

It was on my list about 2 months back until I found out it was Taiwan. It looked like a nice set but could not bring myself to buy it. The Bacho 3/4 set is also a nice looking set but also Taiwanese made.

I actually kind of like those Williams/Blue Point/Bahco sets-in-a-box. They just need to be cheap enough.

I managed to pick up the variant that has a full set of SAE/metric wrenches and sizeable 3/8" socket set for under $50 on eBay, and then another version with pliers and a big socket set for under $40 (this kind of thing used to be cheaper than it is lately). Perfect for throwing in the trunk or leaving in a closet for in the house use.

I have Kobalt(lowe's) box cutter that is exactly the same(blue instead of orange), the weak part seems to be the rivets on the belt clip.

That bessey knife is interesting! I have a Sears Craftsman version; they sold for awhile, just like it! I wonder who the OEM is?

Would you guys remember what you paid for these knives? just to compare with Bessey's price, as teir clamps are not cheap I guess that their knives aren't either...

Nice hammer! Is it just a copper (bronze?) coating on it or is it made of copper (bronze?)

only one belgian tool ??? Time to change that :) ;) www.polet.be

i would buy these handles anyway:

abb_fh2_kombi.jpg

from "Pferd" (Ruggeberg). Also available from "Hase" files and "Elora" in black/yellow. (and cheap too € 1.49 to 2.14 net)

gr_208.jpg

Whats about the store you mentioned ?

Thanks for the links, I'll ask for some generators prices!
I had never heard of Polet before... Mostly garden tools so I will tell my mother! But with the political situation we have for the moment in Belgium, she doesn't want to spend her money in flamish tools (I'm from the south part of Belgium, wallonia) :bounce:

These files handles are nice, is there a place where they can be ordered online? I like wood handles but I'd prefer something with more "shape", these seem to fit!

Concerning the floor jack I'm a bit lost... The store I talked about which sell original Mega's has prices higher than all the prices I've seen before :)
So now I consider 2 options, buy the Mega T2X (48mm) from UK for 400€ delivered or buy the Facom T2 (75mm) from my local Facom dealer for 360€.
Facom's is proportionaly more expensive but it has been a long time since I've done a "real" tool purchase from my local dealer.
They're always very nice and helpful when I ask for small annoying parts and bits, I would be "happy" to give them my money, even if it's not the cheapest price I can find... Another nice thing is that I buy from them since I'm 16 and they always considered me as a real customer, it's something I appreciate!

T2 is a bit more common but I don't know if the I really need an extra-low jack like the T2X, plus I don't like the idea to spend 125€ to ship a 275€ jack from the UK to Belgium, especially as I go quite often there and could pick it myself...
I think I'll go for the Facom T2 (I like the gray colour) and buy an Abco T2X next time I go to the UK! :)
Jack's are like any other tools right, you never have too many of them... :bounce:

Here's something a bit different: a typical Japanese style garden shear that i've owned for some time. I've used it for its intended environment, but I've also noticed that it cuts rubber hoses cleanly, so I also keep one in the toolbox.

I think it's a beautiful design.

I agree with you, very pretty, simple design, might make a nice mother's day present

A bit off topic but as I've seen that the forges of Saint Juery restarted production after some inactivity time, it made me think about Sambre & Meuse vises...
I heard some time ago that after being bought by Dolex, they stopped the production of *** vises as Dolex already had their own vises, would someone know if production started again?

And this is an alternative for what Monte posted, for holding screws, but this one is for power tools.

actually very good !!!! Better than many germans ;) And even with capital letters and not everything written in small letters
btw: "selbstbewußt" ;)

19.- sounds good !!! 27.- not :D The local big box store "Bauhaus" sells them for higher prices than list prices.. so you always have to look what the list price is .... (and what a good price is...)

By the way, I took the plunge and made some tool shopping through Amazon.de; in the SMDV shop (where I found the best prices) bought some Knipex pliers and Wera Rapidaptor holder; and through e-bay, some NWS pliers. nice !! :pimpflash Yes please post them pics !!! Thats what this thread is about :)

I heard they´re good :D I would buy them :) they look nice in chrome ...

There was once a set like this from Hazet.....

ooops sorry i didn´t know that :D
I don´t know if she likes germans more than flemish people :D but there would be some options for garden tools ;) www.idealspaten.de www.baackspaten.de www.berger-garten.de

I think the Facom jack also fits much better to your tool collection :)
I dunno.... 2 jacks ???? ok makes sense !!! Here on GJ !! :D Do you work on lowered vehicles ? I heard there are a lot of "Tuner" cars in Belgium since there is not really a "TÜV" inspection or so ??? (at least in the car magazine you often see cars with Belgian license plates with ridiculous low cars and body kits :) ) so the 2 TX would be more practical...

@Monte : I don't know very much about "Sambre et Meuse". Over here, in France, the most common vises are the Dolex ones. I personnaly own a 30 years old Dolex. Still works like a charm. Also the vise pictured on the Sambre et Meuse website looks very similar to mine, maybe it's outsourced by Dolex.

why the last one ?

(This goes to Servito as well)
I wish not to speak about it here. :) It'll be to off topic for this thread :D Only thing I'll say is that there were several email communications in order to sort out the order. Overall, it was just a hassle.

 Couldn´t pass it up with that name :) ! And much better than the new fancy 1000-in-1 dogbone ratcheting toys :)

No kidding! Have you seen the pics Stuey posted over at Toolguyd on the newest Kobalt Multi Drive Wrench :spit: ? : http://toolguyd.com/2010/11/how-well-does-the-kobalt-multi-drive-wrench-fit-hex-fasteners/

It looks like it's a locking type too, similar looking to the Hi-Five locking flex.

The thing is, I got this from my mother, who had three of them stashed away in a closet. She got it from her master instructor of Japanese flower arrangement about 15 years ago. :)
