Hello everyone and welcome to the recent members thta have shown up these days, I have a tricky question for you;
What do these two squares mean? As the following pictures show it I have seen them on french, german and czech powertools.

The two squares means that the product is "double insulated"
This means that the electrics are separated from the conductive parts by an insulator. Usually this means that the housing itself is made of plastic.

Double insulated equipment does not need an earthed power supply. You will see that your double insulated tools probably have a power plug without earth connection.

No in person photos, but got a used Metabo LT drill. One of the newer ones, made in Germany.

Also got 2 new grinders from Metabo today. 4.5 and 7 inch. The 7 inch was cheap because it apparently has an M14 rather than 5/8" spindle, but I haven't verified that, and one of the reviewers on amazon said that the metric spec was a misprint.

damn prices are going up and down like crazy over the past few days, but I got this for $137. I think the amazon list of $408 is slightly inflated, but not sure.

THey had some good deals on Bosch German models too.

I had to return the 7" grinder to Amazon (W23 model) because when I finally got around to unpacking it, I noticed it was 220v and had a Euro (looked British) plug

The item description mentioned m14 spindle nut, but an early review of the item mentioned it was actually 5/8" and Amazon's description was wrong.

It was a bummer to have to return it, considering the incredibly low price at the time of sale. But thems the breaks.

I did end up getting a few Metabo backing pads for the 4.5 and 7. Nice stuff. And on amazon at least, cheaper than the Dewalt and 3m pads I've used in the past. Haven't had a chance to compare quality yet.

So, I have put my $$$ where my mouth is. I have grew up on Craftsman and now they go to the wrong Country over seas! Here is The metric set I am now using. I am giving my 15 year old son all of my v stuff to use, lose,break or whatever he wants, but he already knows to stay out of my tool box. I have bought both stahlwille and hazet and for sure pick Stahlwille, They are way more finished. The hazets feel like sand paper, however I still bought a 36MM X 21MM Hazet double box that popped up on Flea Bay cheap(36MM=triple clamp nut). I bought the Stahlwille wrench set and two 450 hazets to complete a set at samstags and the Stahlwille sockets from repairman.

I recommend Sam Stags. They shipped the same day both orders & I received them in two days

@Monte, Thanks for your personal opinion w/ the Hazet/stahlwille question, also the screwdriver link.

Congrats on your new tools. I have bought stuff from both samstag and repairman with good results. Samstag is getting too expensive. I prefer the rougher feel of HAZET when I have greasy hands, but stahlwilles are also excellent. They are in another league from craftsman.

and long ones, or they don´t sell well hence they made the short and long ones to see if they sell better i dunno. I guess they sell good , in a german forum a couple of people complained that they´re on back order until january so maybe the first batch already sold out.

Don't know what you would pay for a set of proxxon screwdrivers (i guess ~ 15€ w/o shipping), but eBay got some Torx Sets (MiG) at the same price.

I say i don´t like the handles that much

ok the prices are good - about 15.50 to 17.95 i think.

I personally would buy maybe this Torx set and maybe this regular set.

How much is "an arm and a leg" for you ?? What do you want to spend ?
This could be another choice, these prices ain´t bad too, or a very simple basic set for a good price click or these Wera set for 7,30€ click or this 7pc. Torx set or this maybe and the matching slotted/PH set click or this or....

If you can live with the Proxxon handle )) than why not, don´t know about fitment though, i don´t like the ******* and the square turning zone of their drivers. But you should also ask others, maybe superautobacs, he owns similar screwdrivers from Ko-Ken.

An arm and a leg could be the €25 extra I'd had to pay if I went over the norwegian sales tax limit which is approx. €25.

Yes, I do. The grip is superior to anything else that I have, but for general screwdriving purposes I prefer the smoother surface finishes, without the soft ******* (no pun intended. ).
...I've actually transplanted the Ko-ken handle onto a twist ratchet instead.

Hey guys, I must say that I absolutely love this thread, I was looking for some old tools on the net and I stumbled upon this site, after a couple of hours of browsing trough the thread I just had to subscribe to the site!

There are some VERY nice tools here, some of which I now plan to get myself! So thank you for posting!

Since this is my first post I'd like to introduce myself as I plan on spending some time here in the future if you don't mind!

To make it short so that we don't go to far off-topic: I'm a 22 year old guy, I live in the Faroe Islands up in the north atlantic. I recently finished business school(this summer) and I went straight of to work at my favorite hardware store in town (Valdemar Lützen) In my spare time I make short movies and video commercials as a hobby and hopefully fulltime job in the future.

Thats that. Now my father who is now retired has given me all his tools, some are still in quite good condition, as soon as I get our camera to work again I will post pictures! aswell as pictures of "exotic" tools from the store which I think are of relevance. I think most of the stuff in the store will fit quite well in here because the one trait we all cherish in tools where I work is QUALITY

sometimes (like once a year ) you can find something "good" like the jig saw blades or "Targon" stuff from "Aldi" like this drill and delta sander made by Kress or german drill bits

The new Bosch die grinder - now with metal gear case and dual ball bearings at the spindle in the front.

Looks nice! but I like them with a longer shaft, so I can put one hand around it and control my moves more precisely, I mostly use die grinders for cylinder head jobs so precision is quite usefull
I like the Makita GD0600, probably not as strong as the Bosch but seems fine for what I do
