I've been looking at various brands of those flex shaft nut drivers. How they differ from a normal nut driver is that the "socket" portion is very thin allowing access to the screw head on a hose clamp.

[...].
The blue driver is dedicated for hose clamps (7mm), at least it is branded ABA who makes plenty of hose clamps and it is sold as such over here. This is nice tool and great for those hard to get clamps but it does not last very long under hard use. The flex leg bends and loses capability to transmit torque from handle to tip. This one is still fine.

Here is a little comparison between ABA and WERA.

Wera feels softer to bend, probably due to longer flex-leg.

I am hoping WERA's thicker flex leg can take more abuse than ABA. Only time will tell.

I've been looking for a new tool pouch for work. Looking for a electricians tool pouch. Here in the us the selection is limited to junk or more junk. Excluding VETO bags  , but before I buy one I would like to see if there are any euro or German electrician tool pouches that would work for me.

@Monte : Good eye for the new Dolex pliers:thumbup: I realy don't know where they come from but i doubt they're from Wezag. Other Dolex pliers, i mean the "high capacity locking pliers" are made in the house (that's what Dolex claim). As you probably know they took over the Outillages Roux machinery.
Also, i didn't know about "Biax-flexwellen" but i always wondered who was the OEM for all those flexing shaft drivers. Now, i know. Thanks:beer:

@Olafur : Thank you for the nice review about your Wera flexible driver:thumbup: I've also got some of those silly tools. Mine are branded Elora :

Size 5/6/7/8/10.

Quatrolit bi-material handles

Note that nuts+shafts are differently made than your Wera, ABA's

The following three pics are from a #7 driver :

@Automatique:
some of the new Dolex pliers look like Bollman pliers like the Dolex PMD 250 and the PFT210

Monte, i also noticed the similarities between the new Dolex pliers and Bollman's products, but i wasn't 100% sure. Obiously Bollman is one of their OEM. Concerning the older Roux tools, they're made in the house, in France . At least, that's what they claim on their website : "Toutes nos pinces-étaux sont fabriquées dans notre usine" (all our locking pliers are made in our factory).

I didn't use my Elora's Nut drivers very much, only once. Their Qualtrolit Handles are pretty well made : not too big, not too small, just right.

ps : Nice Böcker socket:thumbup:

ps #2: What's your opinion about HaFu products, since you've got many of their tools. I just own one of their torx keys set and i've already broke a key. Are you confident about this brand ?

@AutomatiquE:
thx for the info about Dolex + Elora !!!
I own a couple of HaFu products (hex ball screwdrivers, torx ball screwdrivers, hex + torx T-handles) but i have the T-handles at home (don´t use them there) because i use Wiha, and only have used the ball drivers only a couple of times and only 1 or 2 sizes like T20 or 5mm because i prefer to use non-ball drivers if possible (which is in most cases...) so i really can´t say anything. Maybe they are not the best but probably not the worst also because otherwise Hazet, Elora, AMF, Turnus and other companies wouldn´t sell them with their name on. Did you break a ball torx or regular ? Did it twist before breaking ? Maybe i would try Wiha, Wera or Bondhus.

I found some screwdriver with exchangeable tip, about 40yrs old, in my toolbox - I think it is yet unknown brand in this thread: SADUM, made by OPP PŘEROV (Czechoslovakia). I see that name for the first time, and google doesn't show any record too :headscrat

Btw: nice face shield:thumbup:

Another recent purchase, my first "Knipex" tool, the 70-180 diagonal cutter. No doubt it'll be the first of many!

Woww!! nice Insulated cutter

Almost 20 years ago I was working as electronic technician. Back then I had two favorite screwdrivers - long lost. When I found G.J. few weeks ago I discovered what brand they were; WERA. Of course I went shopping. :)

This is part of experiment regarding quality screwdrivers in general and my friend. He usually brakes all flat screwdrivers he owns so I am going to give him this pair. If he brakes these he is beyond hope when it comes to screwdrivers!

Awesome drivers:thumbup:
Btw : make sure ur friend used for a right jobs:bounce:

@mrtools : very nice ktc ratchet, i wish we had here in France such small stores with such quality tools sold in such worn out package... ahhhh you lucky man

@Monte : The broken HaFu ball-end torx key in question was used in a very gentle way. That's why i feel a little bit doubtfull about their quality. But you're definatly right about the fact in general it's better to use non ball end drivers. They're very much stronger.

No, there is no serial, It is very similar to the Knipex in the link, but the spring is different. I did some digging and found very similar tool on NWS website. Actually I think it is exactly the same. Tiny letters on the handles are identical.

I do not know if ABA is still made in Sweden, doubt it judging by the quality of the 7mm driver.

Thanks for all the info!

Where did you buy them from?

The box was given the "Good Design" award in 2009, in Japan.
Toyo steel website *click They supply some/all of Tone's line of carry/tool boxes. They can be found rebranded into some other lesser known Japanese brands as well.

[edit]
I've been looking at various brands of those flex shaft nut drivers. How they differ from a normal nut driver is that the "socket" portion is very thin allowing access to the screw head on a hose clamp.

I haven't decided on a brand, and its a tool decision that makes me nuts. I do plenty of hose clamps, but 90% of the time another tool works fine, so its clearly in my "want" not "need" list, but I would still kind of like to get the best one just because I like nice tools. OTOH I've seen cheap, but most likely adequate sets on ebay for $25 that incl the 3 common metric sizes and a 1/4 square drive for use with sockets.

Thank you for adding Wera to my confusion, they look very nice.

I totally agree with you. It's a "want" thing for me as well. I've been set on getting the Wiha ones, but I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. Curious...of all the other ones that you've seen, which brands have the outer sheathing on them? For me, that sheathing is a "must" feature. I've worked with ones that have the braided wire exposed, and they just don't last very long, and they will scratch surfaces. I find the sheathed types cope better with higher twisting torque.

Btw, Olafur and AutomatiquE, thanks for the photos for your flex drivers.

very nice toolbox

Are they the best you can get from Germany?

just bought a Kukko

you will find out :D
I don´t know, probably the most well known company, other than Kukko and Gedore there is also www.buco.de and www.nexus.de who make pullers for Matador, Elora and Beta for example.

Need a Hazet one as well now..

The recent Hazet ones are made by Gedore, the older ones by Kukko.

The boxes were part of stuff my boss was throwing away, I think they had been sitting around taking up space for a while. When I saw them I immediately saved them from the dumpster, glad I did! No idea where they were originally purchased. But one I use everyday. Second one may go up for sale?;)

Since I started using this type of cable cutters few years ago my side cutters are hardly ever used for electric work. Of course these are brilliant cutters for soft wire, but also very easy and fast wire strippers - with minimum of practice. Much better than side cutters IMO. I also use them for pneumatic work to cut 4-12mm pvc lines - clean cut makes the lines easy to plug into connectors e.t.c

cutters.jpg

There is only one problem I am aware of with these cutters - everybody likes them. They disappear from toolboxes and people borrow them to cut nails, springs, fences, G-strings, hair e.t.c. Even dogs have been seen cutting there claws with them. And when returned they look like this:

cutter-old.jpg

As you can see the edges are worn, not only making the cutter dull but also stiff and utterly useless. Another $40-60 down the drain. :wtf:

The blue cutters on the pics do not have any brand name. I once had very similar cutter branded "BOST" and it was close to perfect (slim, light, sharp, smooth) until a friend needed something to cut a hand brake cable on his Volvo. May he rest in peace! (both the Volvo and the cutter).

One night I was burning the midnight oil on ebay and found a nice fellow in Hong Kong who is selling cutters like this rather cheap. I saw the cutter was "made in Japan" so I hope it qualifies for this tread. (Yellow on the pic above.)

cutter-shell.jpg

This one is a little bulkier than than the others and the finish is rough, but It works quite well. I like it already!

cutters1.jpg

Thankfully I bought two, I am considering buying few more - this is a bargain. :)

PS: I am not sure if it is really made in Japan :D

Nice I haved a good experience with Shell cable cutter:D
but in the market now it have original and imitation, the original one comes from Japan a price more expensive and a imitation one a litter bit cheaper..
It also difference from quality of material, and the thickness of a head. The original is thin compare with imitation:D
