Going way back to post 2621, I just solved the mystery of who made those water pump pliers my father had. Was over at a friends garage helping him with a project, and he had a pair just like them, with just a bit of the marking left on the handles - they are made by Will.

Some manufacturers say the flexible tools are only good for 5 to 12 newtonmeters (depends on manufacturer) and clockwise use.

i dunno...maybe Tirem or WBC ? www.tirem.de www.wbc-online.de
Tirem:
http://www.ceder.de/cms/projektpadre/media/pdf/WG11.pdf

not that bad :D
I´m pretty sure the black/yellow one is "Benscheidt" brand

Benscheidt:
http://www.ceder.de/cms/projektpadre/media/pdf/WG13.pdf

ahhh the missing Stahlwille wrench for my collection :D :D

that already count as a collection ;) :)

btw: nice 14mm collection Olafur :)
Thanks for the info, this is (Padre)/Triem. Over here we have two main homebuilder/construction outlets, each with several stores. Both of them seem to have done some shopping with Padre/Triem. Since the banking crises and following collapse of the icelandic krona they are clearing out more expensive brands and promoting cheaper tools from China e.t.c.

Today I went to two main stores, to try to find pin punches and more but what was left was mainly strange looking chisels. However one store had clearing sale on discontinued items. Yes they had this "junk" :) on sale to clear for more "Hurricane" quality tools. :lol_hitti

This one was 25% of original price;
wiha-1.jpg

wiha-2.jpg

50% off for these;
wiha-3.jpg

wiha-4.jpg

wiha-6.jpg

wiha-5.jpg

I did not leave many survivors. The 300mm Knipex was however not on sale, it is so well known brand it will never go on sale over here.

So - my pin punch hunting trip went quite well after all!

Ps: My 13mm Stahlwille seem a little lonely and lost - actually I do not know were I got it in the first place. Monte - if you can find a good home for it PM me your adress and I will send it home to Germany again. :lol_hitti

@Cliceu: All DeWalt tools in USA are "Made in Mexico", most of Bosch is "Made in Switzerland" and some "Made in Mexico", rest of the brands like Hilti, Makita, Hitachi, Ridgid, cordless Milwaukee are "Made in China". Once I get my camera ready, I will post some pictures of Mexico-made Bosch drill that I have...Keep posting more of the good stuff...

In 2007 I bought a Hazet 5122-1 torque wrench. It's the budget version of the regular 1/2" type, which is limited to a +/- 10 Nm scale. That time it met my requirements, but today I would not buy it again, since I would prefer something more precise.

Anyway, I will live with this limitation, but what I did observe right from the beginning is the fact that it skips a tooth from time to time under heavy (but within spec) torquing. Today I opened the gear to see what's wrong and found something interesting. Obviously the gear is missing some teeth in a certain are. Thus in some positions only one lever can engage I don't think that's the reason why it skips a tooth from time to time (it's really only one not 10), but I'm questioning the design regarding its robustness. Especially because I think this design is used also in the CT version (fine scale type) of this wrench.

Well, I lubed it with some Molycote and am hoping that the skipping is gone, but still leaving me :headscrat

Has anyone seen a similar design before?

The flat portion (without teeth) is for support/guidance, the general idea seems to be that only one lever is enough and under torque the the flat portion is counteracting the force from the lever on the opposite side. Strange design - perhaps it is just the pic playing tricks on my eyes but it looks like the teeth's on each side (where two levers engage) are sharper than the ones on top. Still I find it strange if it is skipping teeth - cause it looks ok. It is possible to imagine that without any lubrication the lever on the flat bed could "bite" there, but loose the grip under load and the other one would then engage - causing slight kick to the handle. Seems unlikely though.

You do that to the cheapo Stanley ones from Walmart.. not a nice Hazet! :eyecrazy:

I respectfully disagree.
If you are going to put a pipe extension on anything, I cannot think of better brands than Hazet and Stahlwille. Chances are they will survive and you too. :)

Here we are talking about pipe extensions in the 2 meter range.

# Fancy brand name! $30

# superior strength and ability to endure abuse! priceless :pimpflash

When it comes to strenght - Hazet is among the top qualifiers. I do not buy it because it is fancy, I buy Hazet for it's brutal strength!

Umm, yes, Hazet is quite strong IMOHO.

But the advantage of the Stanley is, when I bend the heck out of it and take it back to Walmart, I get to see the look of O_O on their faces when I exchange it :D

I'll probably be getting a Craftsman at some point, 1/2 at least. It's cheap and I can warranty it in 5 minutes if need be... and while I'd love a hazet, I can't sell any of my Kidneys just yet :)

Hilti operates production facilities in Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, Hungary and China. :)

That's all I know. The Chinese plants were (relatively) recently expanded, so a lot of it is made there, yes.

I used this Athlet bitdriver a lot but it got me pissed that I always screw off the cap while using. I got me the Wiha now and it feels great so far. Only thing I'm missing is a 1000V/VDE stamp somewhere (!???). The Athlet used to have one when it was new.

Nice Proturn a tips are magnetized?
Do you know what type of material Wiha used for Proturn screwdrivers, I very impress with a hardness of blade and a tips.
here are my Proturn (second post for this thread)

no, not magnetized. The Proturn drivers don´t appear in the Wiha catalog so i can´t tell you. Since your Proturn blades are completely plated and the Wiha "Classic" ones too maybe they´re the same`? They only write "Chrom Vanadium" but don´t specify which type.

http://wiha.de/england/Onlineshop/Screwdrivers3/153-Wiha-Classic-Phillips

these should be even stronger/longer lasting:

Thanks for your offer ! I want to buy a complete set anyway so then i have it :) the wrench has already a good home i think ! ;)

most of Bosch is "Made in Switzerland" and some "Made in Mexico"

and many in Germany (most Rotary hammer drills, most angle grinders etc.)

French Bost?

Could be, but the quality don´t look like what Bost (Facom) is capable to do, the Lux wrenches are all slightly bent and where the size marking is the beam of the wrench is bellied so i think Facom would do better.

Is Hilti really made in China?

not all, but most (or all ?) cordless products. Hilti operates a factory together with Panasonic in China for the production of cordless tools.

http://panasonic-denko.co.jp/e/corp/news/2009/0901-01.htm

if you go to post #44 here
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1245011
you can see which products are made where.

Ok then what about Switzerland? :D

They make triangular prisms out of chocolate and whatnot... of course I want to hear about them :)

I'd email Wiha and ask them, just to make sure. Maybe they'll send you one with the stamp. I know when I'm around anything dangerous, I like to see that kind of labeling on the product to put a bit of confidence in me. If it's not there, I "know" the product is still good, but it feels like of awkward.

@mrtools and Olafur : I paid around EUR 55.92 (incl. VAT) for the Hazet breaker bar. Ok, that's a liitle bit expensive but the price is justified by the quality of the tool, it looks almost indestructible

Btw, it think it's the right time to post some pics of my Hilti electric machines:)

Corded Hilti "TE2" drill + Cordless Hilti "SF121A" drill.

Thanks, they sure can send me one with a VDE sign :D, but I'm distrustful.
The packaging also did't have a sign that shows that they tested those drivers at 10.000V. At least I couldn't find it anywhere. The german site doesn't give any info. Only the US Wiha site says that they were tested: http://www.wihatools.com/300seri/380bitflip.htm
But why not show it on the driver or the packaging? It's a sales argument and sign of quality. To me this means: no sign - not tested - not certified!
Selling an insulated tool in those typical colors, pretending to be a "tested" electricians tool, but missing the proof? Shady!

No, shady is those $20 "Electricians kits" that have like 20 insulated tools in them that claim to be tested... those are more shady than the biggest weeping willow tree you've ever seen. I won't go near them. At least give Wiha a call and explain, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to tell you why they're being lazy :bounce:

I do!

My Facom tools made in France are tremendous!

Far better than Snap Off IMHO!

Vive la France!

I can't afford either.

Vive la Lowes! :bounce: I don't speak French very well... Je parlais un Francais un peau? Err... forget it. Tres mal.

I DID have some cheese from France once... it was on the runny side, with a hint of garlic. Rediculously good on a few good crackers, but it was ~$15 for the very small package of it. That's about the only French thing I've ever had :spit:

At Barcelona's local stores????
Don't think so, not even in my best dreams :(. I haven't seen anything similar to this at any store here in Barcelona; indeed, I was lucky enough to see (and buy it) the Wera bit ratchet months ago at my local Bauhaus, but other than that, they only have bigger rachets.
But thanks again, I will mail them and see what can they tell me about. :)

P.S.: Yes, at ebay.de

I have a question - I bought Meister 125x7 screwdriver in some sale action (now it's in my car, so I can't take photo of it). The handle is made of transparent red plastic and signed W.Germany. My question is about Meister - good or not good? They still have some pieces in the shop and I like that oldskool look of the handles too, but I'm not sure about quality. Anybody can tell me?

(looks "similar" like this one  )

@Monte : Both Hilti drills are presents from my father and both bought in France in 2004/2005. I don't use them very often, only when needed for some houseworks but they always perform well. Also, a Fein BOP-2 is still on my wish list...
