I've seen photos of the pawls, which hold the column up, sheared off. Cheap Chinese pot metal and a lack of QC !

Get some of these, good quality New Zealand made axle stands, it's interesting comparing the specifications of these and the compacs above for the equivalent capacity. Very heavy. They also used to make the type in the second photo, in ways better than the current model as they can be adjusted to any height between max and min, where as there is about a 1" difference between each setting on the current model.

i did wear 2 jackets because it was cold. So yes it´s comfortable (with 2 jackets

But i guess this version is higher, i also don´t like how the wheels are attached (with 1 screw only) and i wanted something simple and light which i can hang to a wall and which don´t get damaged by weld spatter and sparks.

The cast ones look essentially identical to my Dawns, Made in Australia ; bought back in the 70's
The raised casting where presumably the name is is larger though.

I got them on Ebay, mine have definitely been around a while, but I think all that's left about is NOS. I prefer a hard handle for in the garage.

Definitely concerning to see this. Between showing up at a big brand store, and the hitachi acquisition, I'm just waiting to start see "made in germany" replaced with "made in China"
The budget Metabo line has been made in China for some time.The premium products will always be made in Germany IMHO.
Their premium products are denoted by LTX right?
Like the circular saw KSA 18 LTX is made in China. I have it, kind of a piece of junk. Definitely regret that purchase.
That being said, my SB18LTX drill, W9-115 grinder, SSD18 LT impact driver are made in Germany and are excellent. My Metabo STEB 140 is also made in Germany, but leaves something to be desired; has loose controls for the pendulum swing that frequently come out of their spots during use. Metabo warranty email service has been non responsive too.
My PSE 1200 reciprocating saw is made in the USA though interestingly enough.. Works great.

The fact that it's a piece of junk really doesn't stem from the fact that it's made in China though. The motor is underpowered, the ergonomics are pretty awful, however the dust collection is really excellent. Looks like they spent most their time there, rather than on how the saw handles.
I have the KGS18LTX too, and that thing, while made in China as well, is pretty awesome. It's great for it's size, and has made me basically ignore my Bosch 12" glide saw for a while now, because it's so heavy and annoying to move around.

You're right. I'd have to agree. It really does have great dust collection. Really eats through batteries too despite that weak motor.
I see your point, though out of personal preference would say I not only want high quality tools, but I don't want my money going to China either even if they can produce a good product.

I'm guessing they didn't have the money to put into the engineering department at that time...which, if you look at their history; they received a big cash injection in 2012, which is right when the KSA (and many of the LiExtreme tools) first came out. A lot of things from that era, including the recip saw, the drills, the impact driver, really aren't top notch.
It's not until the current gen of tools (the BS/SB18 LTX BL, the SSW 18 LTX 400 BLs, etc), designed after their big 2012 capital investment, that you really see much better engineering.

Larger ones (30+) are stamped "Germany" four or five years ago, not sure about the COO information now.
just checked the comfort without jackets
it´s ok not as comfortable as my bed but much better than laying on the concrete. Also better than my wooden creeper. these are nice too !
