Yeah, they would go together pretty well :D

Mine is 52, and I'm considering buying a few cantilever toolboxes and putting padlocks on them :D He's not that old, but his personality and behavior is story for itself :D When I told him that this is not 5€ tool, and how much it costs, he went voiceless :D Probably all tools he bought in his life are worth less that this pair of cutters, and they arent that expensive :D

To straighten out the mood, birthday present for my brother-in-law

Well, its not made in Europe, but still far better than China :D

I'd take that Belzer over the Bahco, no question.
Such prestine condition!

its kinda expensive , do you have a good quality breaker bar ? id spend my money on a good bar first , maybe 3/4 " drive if you feel its stupidly tight

:+1:

Don't waste your money and time using that hand impact. Those are meant for engine bay work where space is limited.
At minimum, get a long 1/2" breaker bar. Better yet is a 3/4" drive breaker, but depending on your budget, a 3/4" drive T-handle with a pipe might be more economical.

I wish I could have but the 15/16th was my largest Craftsman wrench. It was still heavier than the larger Rahsol. Is the Rahsol a good wrench?
afaik the Gedore/Rahsol wrenches were the same except the Rahsol wrenches had a lesser finish.

Slim (2mm) open ended wrenches for bikes and not only. Inexpensive and still made in England?

What are some brands known for quality/innovative/ergonomic. etc basic carpentry hand tool brands?

Hammers, squares, pry bars, measuring tools, utility knives, nail pullers etc.

Need to buy some of the basics soon. I have fascination for European/Japanese mechanic/hand tools so thought I would check here before buying the typical box store stuff here in the USA.

Thanks.

There was once a time you could buy all that from one manufacturer (Stanley for example) and get top quality! Alas, not now! The quality is still there, but you have to buy from mostly specialist makers!

Personally, I'd avoid 'innovative'! Most woodworking tools were perfected hundreds of years ago and the only 'innovations' are excuses to give us cheaper materials and inferior quality! (Veritas 'custom' planes, and suchlike, are the exception)!

So, here we go, noting you said 'basic' not 'top end' -

Hammer - to be honest, unless you really must have, say, an English pattern, buy a Vaughan and be done with it! Don't need to get a 24 oz monster, but 8, 12 or 16 will probably be perfect!

Square - get a wood/metal carpenters square from Joseph Marples. Shouldn't be costly, even shipped to U.S.

Pry Bar - see above re Vaughan!

Measuring Tools - you have a square so just add a tape. Pretty much got to be a Fisco - British made and inexpensive. They make a lot of tapes for other brands too. I like a metal rule when woodworking, say about 2 feet long. Mine is lightweight and Japanese (Fisher?) but the U.S. Products Engineering are similar.

Utility Knife - if you must, but be aware that the blades are really crappy on most, so upgrade these. I can buy 'Sheffield Made' which are a huge improvement, you can probably source U.S. made somewhere! Better still, get a craft knife from Swann Morton. They are are surgical instrument maker and their stuff is way better than the options. I'm currently using their 'Supatool' and have junked everything else!

Nail Puller - use your Vaughan claw hammer and pry bar!

God yes! What a find!

Belzer was one of my Dad's favourite makers!

Think they were one of the first to offer Chrome plated pliers in the U.K. Dad reckoned the Chrome plating was 'first class'! Guess it was - it's still good after 40 + years!

Personally, I reckon that their screwdriver handles are about the best ever made for most purposes! Similar in size and style to the old Snap On 'Tenite' handles!

PB Swiss are probably offering comparable quality screwdrivers, but don't think anybody offers pliers as good as Belzer now!

Hello all,

Anyone knows how the Gedore 2087 A T-bar quick release works, Pic 1? I cannot figure out but I hope it is not the same as their extensions, Pic 2.8330a310b7148b3d4cd18e00b7d4cdc3.jpg15dd225b00b50882f0ff0893d682f80b.jpg

Are these made in Germany?

Do you think Metabo new sander is re-branded Mirka?

How do you you find the Festool 125? I have the 150 ETS and it is very good. However I think they are suited to carpentry and dry paint. I used on our boat trying to remove the primer and I could stall the motor. Mind that the boat is wooden and quite wet even after days on the yard.

I guess they´re rebadged Mirka Deros sanders made in Finland.
I like my ETS 125 a lot. It runs very smooth, it´s ergonomic, it´s not too loud, it doesn´t vibrate much, it has a nice on/off switch, good built quality etc... The ETS 150 is on the wish list... I´m not sure if a ETS is the right tool for your task, i guess the wood might be uneven/swollen as well as the paint so i think a forced orbital sander (a.k.a. Rotex) might be better suited... (or maybe even a belt sander or a Flex Supraflex or Fein ROT 14-200 E ...). I think the ETS orbital sanders (as well as others) are for "normal" tasks like finishing wood/paint/bondo before coating etc. and not for rough work.

Anyone owns the Metabo sb18ltx brushless?

Could you please confirm that in drill mode you cannot hold it from turning by your hand?

I once tried a couple of them in a fair and I could just stall them by hand. Problem is I cannot recall the setting.

Thank you

Are you asking how to make it put out in max power mode? Hit the red button on the top/back. And yes I can make it stall out.

Hi pureleaf,

Depends on the model may or may not have the button on the top.

In any case, I need someone who owns a brushless Metabo LTX to confirm that when in drilling mode (fill torque) the the drilled cannot be stopped from running by holding it down from the chuck.

Thanks

Sorry PureLeaf, I did not read your email well.

It seems that all Brushless drills have this "feature" which for me it is not a plus.

I will probably buy the previous model with the brushes.

Thank you

The horizontal handle presses on the lever in the connecting part, which does not allow to be pushed through the fixing ball in the square. This fixes the tool attached to the square and does not allow it to be disconnected. In a horizontal handle, only in one place (with an edge) there is a notch, if it coincides with the lever of the connecting part, the pressure on the lever stops and the fixing ball can be recessed in a square, in this position the attached parts can be removed from the square.

Nice, thank you!

Btw, do you know if the horizontal bar is normal thickness of about 8 mm because I have the Stahlwille which is 6 mm and cannot handle it, it is tiny. [emoji106]

Many thanks Chrissalas!

Did you tried from stopped or whilst it was running? What about in 2nd gear? I own the old model with max 1400 rpm and I am looking to get a faster one.

It is not about being strong but rather a feature to "protect" the drill.

I am between the Metabo and the Fein but I am on Metabo batteries already and there is the Metabo LTX-3 now.

Monte, does your Fein has any "protection" like this?

Thanks guys

These tools are locking tweezer, hex screw or nut holder and slotted head screw holder (picture 2 from top to bottom. These are common tools used in the electronic industry during the 60's & 70's.
I have the same set for over 40 years & condition is still immaculate. Never used it after the discovery of prestik putty.

I've really been loving the German combination wrenches lately.... Good assortment of hazet and Elora.
Kinda thinking I'll replace my snapon set with hazet sometime...
