Kristoffer, your english is very good, no worries there. But what is that thing that they don't want you to open? It looks like something to plug vacuum tubes into.

Thank you. I speak english every now and then, but it's been a while since I've written that much.

What Jrboulder said:

It's a power strip...

Even though that sounds like the term to use when someone takes off their clothes in a rather efficient manner..

I live in Norway and it's pretty obvious that the average Norwegian prefers cheapo Chinese tools as we have literally no proper tool shop that stocks German, American, French, Japanese or Swiss tools.

I guess there are the odd reseller of more high-end brands over here, but they focus on big corporate customers wich really shows in their pricing and non-excistant customer service to the average punter.

-Kristoffer

It's not easy living in Norway where people loves to pay others to fix things, but when you know where to get the tools it helps a little. Facom you can get from Mekonomen, Gedore is sold by Tools, and Fossentools have a ok range of products.
But with that said, when My Grandfather and I was out this march to but some Gedore 7XL wrenches at Tools they just looked at us. I quite like the quality and my grandfather who have worked selling tools and supplies to industry his whole life was helping me getting the Gedore set. The salesman, a friend of him, just looked at us and said: "we don't normally sell Gedore, it's to expensive for most industry". But they did order us a great set of the 7XL and made a decent price on it.

Today I also found some more Made in Norway tools!
This time by Kongsberg. I belive Kongsberg still makes tools, unlike Geilo Verktøy who ran out of business some years back. But the Kongsberg today is not what it once was, due to the fact of not manufacturing it in Norway, and probably some other owners.

I'm currently cleaning up the workshop on our "farm" so will post more if I continue to find some more cool stuff

I know where to get it and I'm all about supporting local businesses. But when it's the same thing over and over I just can't be bothered.. You contact them and ask them for a price and estimated delivery time for what you want. Then they reply back several days later without any form of excuse for keeping you waiting and smack you in the face with a ludicrous summe of money and up to a month in delivery time. And discount? Hah, forget about it.

It does not seem like they want to sell at all.. So I'll rather let TBS Aachen, Prime Tools etc have my money instead. They reply back in hours in a polite and helpfull manner, usually have the items in stock for immediate delivery and their pricing is more realistic. Easy choice..

I bet you had to turn the old wallet inside out if you bought those Gedores in Norway. Do you have the regular 7 wrenches as well? What do you think of Gedore wrenches? I only have a couple of old Rotband hammers and an even older adjustable from Gedore..

I'm about to order a new set of wrenches as my current set is all a mix match of different things with a couple of sizes missing. Currently stuck on Hazet 600N..

It should be quite useful for heavy work, I wont have to use the Makita cordless in first gear anymore.
Same seller also had a nos elu mof112 router motor, which I also couldn't resist.
:pimpflash Do you have the complete router ? The Elu routers have a big fan base and the prices for decade old machines are quite high here.

The manufacturer:
www.zimmer-maschinen.de
Not even in medieval times you had to wait to weeks for a reply and they delivered messages in paper form by foot.. And as if that did not put me off enough, they quoted me the equivalent of $680. And that was ex 25% tax and delivery. Roughly $900 in total for a ****** torque wrench and five sockets that I can get for $250 from Germany.. No, just no.
Maybe they think the customers have the money...
I read that Tesla cars are among the most sold cars in Norway....So the customers must have money :) ;) And they want your money too :D
Anyway, enough of this short story writing in rather poor English.
Your english is very good !!!
Why is the on button up side down and the logo on it's side?
I guess they make this product without the "feet" too... Like this one, a regular extension socket. I guess it will be cheaper to not change anything just for this product with the "feet".
What screws are these? Never seen them before..
Maybe a "spanner" screw
Even though that sounds like the term to use when someone takes off their clothes in a rather efficient manner..

Monte! Busy weekend since you've not been posting in this thread for several days?

Well, I don't have deep pockets and does not make it sound like I have it either. As I said, I just can't be bothered with it. So much easier to order from abroad for both me and my wallet.

It is true that there a lot of Teslas over here, but that is easy to explain. If you buy a Tesla our politicians have decided that you don't have to pay any tax for it because it's better for Captain Planet. And Tesla seems to be charging the same here as they do in the US, so the cars are actually not that expensive at all compared to similarly equipped fossil burners that you have to pay all sorts of taxes and fees to own. They also have very low interest rates on loans, about 2% or so. And you don't pay any road tax, you don't have to pay at toll booths along the way and in the bigger cities you can use the lane meant for buses and taxies to escape a lot of the traffic. Tesla's network of Superchargers has grown as well so you're able to go pretty much anywhere and of course you charge for free. So if you're a middle class guy with a couple of kids living in a larger city, I can easily understand why you would buy a Tesla when there are that many benefits. I'd buy one myself if I could, those things haul *** and have a lot of Benz S-class parts in them. Most of the components for the air suspension are S-class parts for instance, so they ride very well. The fit and finish varies a lot from car to car though, especially inside on pillar covers and so on. I've been a passenger in both a Model X 90D and a Model S P100D Ludicrous. The Ludicrous surely is ludicrous as it's straight up uncomfortable to experience that kind of accelleration. It's like having your mother in law sitting on top of you while looking through binoculars, if that makes any sense..

That is probarbly the reason for the placement of switches and logos yes. Maybe I'll break out the Dremel and go ape on and old slotted and sort it out at some point, but I'll leave it as is for now.

A couple of random items from the last couple of days:

-Fisher space pen from a flea market, always wanted it but never got around to order one

-Facom slotted screwdriver from an old, forgotten toolbox belonging to my dad, stamped France on the bottom of the handle. I think I'll get more of these Protwists, anyone know if the new ones have decent quality tips?

-Unior pliers from the same toolbox, almost didn't move when I found them but after a quick squirt with CRC they're like new

-Olfa knife, love these small ones for box opening and other small jobs as they dont take up much more space in the pocket than a pencil

From a recent trip to Germany (Frankfurt and Berlin). Mostly from DIY stores like Bauhaus, Hornbech and such. I was looking for some heavy duty Bessey Lever Clamps, but that is only available online.

Yes I have the complete router and I bought a base to mount it in but It has a broken part I have to replace or alter before I can use it.
There might be (older) Dewalt routers with matching parts.... ?
Monte! Busy weekend since you've not been posting in this thread for several days?
I do garden work up to seven days a week after work and on the weekend. That´s why i have less time right now, since i also have to do some research on forest and garden tools offline and online :) chain saws etc...
It is true that there a lot of Teslas over here, but that is easy to explain.
ok that explains a lot :)
Over here the government don´t do much, i guess they´ll wait until there are alternatives from the german car industry....
But well...i love gasoline cars :)

I guess a lot changed in 17 years in Norway :p Last time I was buying tools from shop in Norway they gave me best price in Europe for Flowdrill starter kit, also shipping costs were quite cheap if I remember (around 20 euro with GLS). Did not wait longer than 6 hours for reply and they even sold me without having a company on my own (they were supplying factories and manufactures).

Monte must have the most lively and clean garden in Germany. :D

I got some WMF ceramill, gedore wire stripers, and VDE round nose knipex.

Really digging the gedore pliers, the finish on them is like a mirror and made in Austria!

hautpot,

Very nice tools!

Could you provide some feedback on the Gedore adjustable once you have used it in thin wire stripping?

Thanks and have a good wkd

I also have a few of those Pica deep hole pens. Really love them. Make life so much easier while doing light construction or even hanging something to the wall (due to the slim and long neck you can mark through holes in thick material).

I had a lot of these Majorette toys as a child and when this Dakar rigged Toyota Dyna with Facom advertisement showed up on eBay I had to have it. So ugly, but in great condition:

j8ntbl.jpg

And I was able to find a couple of more Facom items on the Norwegian equivalent of Craigslist. First a metal storage thingy for the JET-series trolleys:

2mzi4w2.jpg

And for this next one I had to crack out this combo as it was.. Let's say "well used":

Progress:

Also gave the plastic and rubber some attention:

240xen8.jpg

Still not anywhere near perfect, did not clean up as well as I thought. But considering that Prime Tools are currently charging £530 ex tax and I got it for about 100£ I'm still a happy camper. Facom JET.A8 power tool bank:

fwhod0.jpg

302z2hu.jpg

The inside still needs a bit more work. Will be done sometime this weekend.

Does anyone know if the JET-series accessories will fit on the ROLL-series trolleys? They are very similar in size and both have the vertical slots that the accessories are hanged from. I think the ROLL-series looks a lot better and they're quite a bit cheaper too..

Nice score and nicer work you've done to it. what about pictures for the tools that goes inside of it :bounce: I like Facom tools, even though they make them in Taiwan mostley now but they still charge an arm and a leg for them, that I don't like.

I have an old version of that saw in the workshop. Need to get a new blade for it as a tooth is missing.

I too, have one, and really like it, but no idea where to get replacement blades locally.

It looks like it's almost as expensive for a replacement blade as it is for the complete saw. Just had a quick look on Ebay, and this should be the best search term for the blade: Eclipse 73-66SR

Thank you! Auto detailing is my bread and butter, so I typically do this to everything I buy as I like to keep it clean and tidy around me. I also seal everything with either a dressing, wax or coating from day one as this seems to extend the life of what I buy and makes it easier to keep clean. I already have all sorts of polishers, liquids, pads and cloths laying around so I might as well just do it. It's fun!

Well, those tools are on their way from Austria as we speak, I'll post pictures when they arrive. I went for the Facom 10,8v drill and 1/2" impact wrench combo for smaller jobs, rebranded DeWalt but probably usable. There are however a third holder in that cabinet and I haven't decided what to put there. A heat gun maybe? I'm in the process of learning proper vinyl wrapping, so that seems to be the best option.

The quality is still very good even though they are produced in Taiwan nowadays. I can't see or feel a difference in finish or function of their tools before and after Taiwan to be honest. Other than the lack of the French stamp of course.. It is however still expensive, yes. But every now and then you come across some good deals and eventually you end up with a decent selection for nowhere near retail price.

:D

So what is the point of shipping production there then if things are going to end up costing the same?

Even though a country has a decent GDP per capita it does not mean that the workers are paid more, look at China for instance. There must be lower production costs that is the reason why more and more manufacturers are moving their production to Asia.. What other reasons can it be?

Here in the US we love tooting our horn about manufacturing but finding people who actually want to do the work is increasingly hard. Seems everyone would prefer to get a degree in English and work at Starbucks.

lol... My wife is planning on doing a PhD in English. I'd better start filling applications at Starbucks for her from now..lol.

Nice micrometer by the way, seems expensive :D

Polishing and waxing stuff is a good habit, not for cleanliness sake only, but also like you said, it prolongs the life of the tool. I respect my tools as well, and clean them well before putting them back.

I agree that the quality of the Facom-Taiwan is still pretty decent, and I would still buy them if they are being offered in a reasonable price. I just recently posted a picture on here of a 1/4 inch SAE/AF socket set that I got, even though the COO isn't mentioned on the box, but most items inside are stamped France, I "think" it's a NOS. I was just complaining about the hefty price tags for Facom tools even though they are not so French anymore.

Monte: thanks for keeping this thread maybe the most popular thread on GJ. personally i love all my european tools and just don't have a lot of them.

this question is for you or whoever might know the best metal cutting blade for my old 250 Fein.

i love it and have used it a lot for wood and tile and I actually own 2 of them, but my SO CALLED METAL BLADES don't seem to cut. should i use the 1/2 moon shaped one and just go slow and steady or is their a better blade either made by Fein or I also buy other brands here that seem to fit my Fein.

thanks in advance and keep up the great work here!!

Any of you guys more familiar with koken sockets and ratchets? I mainly use stahlwille and hazet but they dont offer so shallow sockets and ratchets than koken(as far as i know). How do they level up with hazet or stahlwille in long term use? I'm looking a 3/8 ratchet with extra shallow sockets and by quick looking around koken pop up first. Is there any german manufacturer that makes as shallow or close to koken? I prefer the satin finish and the koken all shiny chrome makes me wonder how slippery/hard the sockets will be taking of from the non qr ratchet...

Some new arrivals:
Hazet spurk plug socket
Stahlwille 3054 inhex sockets(used from ebay, very nice condition)

FastJ,

As far as super shallow sockets go, you're right that Stahlwille and Hazet don't offer them (yet). Although I seem to recall that Hazet once offered go-thru type sockets (which would be very shallow).

I can't answer your question about the durability compared with Hazet/Stahlwille, but they are specialists in making socketry items for over half a century so they ought to know what they are doing. :)

Have a look or post in this thread as well: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=97563&page=122

I don't think Hazet offers the 536/16 any more. There are however smillar offerings from Facom and Proxxon
