I need one (or 4)! Would also likely make a great mallet for carving and chisel work with a little larger head...

Ooh, I could see that. The diameter of the large end looks ok. The thick part just needs to be a little (maybe 50%) longer.

Just recently found myself using the handle of a dead blow to get into somewhere that "The Extender" would have worked great for!
I like the idea of having different size ends to be able to use whichever applies best.

I'm definitely in for one when they hit the market.

Pounding stuff loose in the engine compartment. I have a Matco deadblow with an offset head (piston hammer) the saves the day every once in a while. One of these extenders would be very useful to me even without using a hammer on it.

Hm, I wonder who makes the piston hammer for Matco?

If I had to guess.. its the same stellar company that makes these.. and this is the sole reason I bought this at the summit racing world headquarters 5 minutes from my work. this has been my extender for the last 4-5 months. invaluable for getting into machinery areas.

funny thing is I wanted one for the couple engines a year I build... but as soon as I saw it, it went on the service truck... lol

As others have said, it would certainly make "safety replacement" for a piece of wood... I know Rock has used it several times around the shop in that context usually on suspension items under the chassis. I would get him to snap pictures next time its used that way.

Also thinking.. even if its not dead blow (i.e. solid w/ steel core?), it would still act in many ways as a non marring drift..

Good to hear it spooling along..

I would buy one, would be worth for just the few times I might need it.

I was thinking about this overnight.. Someone asked about using it for wood chisels and carving.. That's brilliant.. The urethane would be perfect... I'v seen some at Rockler and Woodcraft, never pulled the trigger... I'd probably do that if it were a TC version (solid or with the dead blow feature). I don't do much wood carving so I'm not certain if the dead blow would be problematic or not.. What do others think? From an extender to a carving mallet? Hum....

I just pushed a few things to the side in my hammer drawer to make room for one of the extenders.

I'm definitely in for one. If there's one thing I've run into over the years at work, it's not having enough room to swing a hammer. I've looked at those piston hammers, but always end up using scrap wood. An extender would be invaluable.

It definitely replaces the 2x4... not needed often by priceless when necessary.

I would love to have one, and would be willing to give you feedback as to what I like about it, and what I believe needs improving, that is, if it is possible to improve on what already looks like a great tool. I started turning wrenches in 1955, and I have broken more than my share of hammers, using them in ways that they were never intended, but I had to get the job done, one way or another. This tool looks like it will make my life a lot easier, and reduce the wear and tear on my old body. Thanks for your consideration.

I'll be making the selection soon. For those of you who remember the Sorceress, she will be playing a part in making the selection. Writing code was the specialty of the Sorceress, and she wrote this little piece in Excel to make it easy to have random winners in a contest. It's much easier than drawing names from a hat.

Function RandomSelection(aRng As Range)
Dim index As Integer
Randomize
index = Int(aRng.Count * Rnd + 1)
RandomSelection = aRng.Cells(index).Value
End Function

I will be sending a trial dead blow extender to Bobioz1 and Kythri. I will send a PM to each person to get the particulars on shipping. If for some reason Bobioz1 and Kythri want to pass on doing some testing, I'll run the RandomSelection to find another victim. It be great to get some more feedback in this thread from those who currently have an extender, as well as feedback on the two going out once I have addresses.

Thanks everybody.

This may have been answered earlier, could I hit on this dead blow extender with my standard 4lb hammer? That would be a game changer.
