Dormer Centre Drills

There are some Dormer centre drills on ebay at the moment going rather cheap.

$_12.JPG

Probably not many will have a use for centre drills but if you have a lathe or mill they are essential. Note that they are not the normal 60 degrees and are single ended but would be fine for pre drilling etc. Dormer are a top brand for drills and I guess these would normally be a bout a fiver each.

They are £8.99 for 10 including the postage!

Cheers Simon. I've been looking at stub drills for my drill press (to start holes)- would a centre drill make a suitable alternative (price considered), or are they prone to breaking the tips?

We use these center drills in CNCs for 15 years at least. If you want to start holes this is what you need. Check the diameter of the small end if it is suitable for the holes you need to open.

Yes I think they would be great for that, the small diameter on these is 3.1mm and about 5mm long, the shank is 7.9mm (mine arrived today).

The seller has quite a few similar items but I thought this was a particularly good deal, especially with the free postage.

Thanks both! On the strength of this I've bought one of the mixed-size sets for a couple more quid. No boxes but I'll just make a wooden holder.

Nice old beast , I tried and failed on that other Leinen vice , all went a bit wobbly after I asked to view and got warned off because of eBay rules that I must not attempt to buy it!
At that point I gave up , I think she thought she would be arrested by the eBay police

I've got mixed feeling about this seller (The Tool Academy), but they're selling 1/4" Facom sets for £25 shipped. Starting bid is £19.99 (+£4.95 shipping) - I bid that and they ended the auction (or it ended automatically?).

In any case -it's a set for the price of the ratchet, so hard to go much wrong. Plenty of listings, but here's one:

I've even seen those size empty cases go for over £10, so 25 quid really is a bargain.
I've already got three 1/4" sets, so I'm managing to be sensible (so far) and not buy
another one.

Are they the same company that's also selling the 3/8" set for £50..?
That also seems like a great deal.

I think it is the same company. My 1/4" set turned up today; It turned out to be an exceptional deal as it came with a Facom Tag set for up to 34mm sockets as well.

these are mine for sale, i figured i would put them in here rather than the classifieds as not many uk members look in there.

i dont know what they're worth, just ive got new sockets which come in trays so no longer need these. and they're in the bottom of my box so thought id offer them to you guys.

you can get them on ebay for under £15 i just noticed so for me to sell these and post them its not worth it really unless anyone desperatly wanted blue ones LOL

I'll pass on them as I have a rather mixed set of sockets. For example, I have 17 with Bondhus bits in them which wont work with these holders.

those of you with halfords advanced kits halfords have also released blowmoulded tool trays that fit in roll cabs for their 150 and 170 piece sets.

i had to get a couple of extra bits off ebay to fill it as the contents of the 150 piece set are slightly different - the sockets dont go AS big now and it comes with more 3/8" driver bits + a 3/8th 8" breaker - but my 150 piece set is 5 years old still going strong so i dont grudge them changing a few things.

i never understood why they didnt just make the box "toolbox sized" before but at least now they do trays reasonably cheap.

Halfords offering a 200 piece socket set now:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...productId_1001919_langId_-1_categoryId_255215

£150 reduced from £300. I'm sure it's a brand new addition to the Halfords range, so not sure about the ‘reduced’, if it’s never been on sale before? Not sure what 30 pieces they’re added over the 170 piece. There’s 3 more ratchet spanners, I see. Still has the old sets SAE, which 90% of peeps don’t need, and 12 point 3/8 ½ sockets.
