Nice to hear you were thinking of me shopnut!
:)
I was! I remember you telling me about how I can get the character count down in my index and now that we made it to the new forum, I decided to reread your suggestion and see if it still works. But I needed a way to find your old reply discussing it and my old listing method wasn't there anymore... hence the question here.

(BTW, I don't think that character shortcut for jumping to a Reply works anymore, sadly, but I need to do some more digging.)

Ryan were you able to look at getting autopagerizer (AP) to work on the new posts page? AP works on the threads pages, it also works on the forums pages (ie if you go to the Forums Page and click on say Flooring AP works. If you click on a thread AP works) but if you click on New Posts then it does not work and you have to manually click to go to the next page.

I have not... To be honest, stuff like that probably won't happen until I have a complete hand on stock functionality.

Ryan is there a way to change the links to threads so that if you click on the title it takes you to the first post, and if you click on the "red new" it takes you to the first unread? clicking on either takes you to the same place in the thread .
I clicked on a thread, copied the address , removed some info like post # or something and pasted that into my browser & it took me to the original post .
hope I explained & it makes sense .

'Middle school' used to be called 'Junior High'...'Reach out' used to be ' contact me'...'Messages' used to be 'posts'.
Sorry Ryan, just one of my pet peeves...changing, just for change.

im with ya… I don’t come up with that **** though… we switched platforms and hence naming conventions. Sort of like how Toyota has safety stop and Honda has emergency aware… or whatever.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned (I didn't look through all 13 pages, lol). When I hit "new posts", I only get 7 pages, even if there are more than that. Can we up that? I think 7 is a default, some other forums I am on upped it to like 20 or so.

Kinda like when "problems" became "issues"

Ahhh, ok, yeah, I don't think that the "post=" bbcode works in XF, you were right to hold off on that change!

That original post (where I mentioned the "post" bbcode shortcut), looks like it was automatically modified during the migration to XF. The example links I put in there to explain what I was talking about have been changed to the XF equivalent links, so the post no longer makes sense...

And "post=" is no longer mentioned here: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/help/bb-codes/

Looks like the link to a specific post within a thread are actually longer now than they were in vB, which may make your problem worse!

Edit: I searched back through this thread, because I thought the character limit had been discussed. Looks like the post limit is now 30,000 characters, so you may no longer have an issue...

Sounds like you might be hitting “what’s new“. If I click on “New post“ it gives me about 30 results, but the “what’s new“ only gives me like five and then a bunch of profile posts.

@Ryan, in the Garage Gallery forum, can you move the garage size tag away from the beginning of the page title? I often have multiple GJ tabs open in my browser and the current setup makes it more difficult to determine which post I'm on:
1622207459655.png

The page title in the above screenshot (in the HTML <TITLE> element) is "Above 1200 Sq/FT - The Salvage Garage | Page 292 | The Garage Journal." I'd recommend moving the tag after the thread title, but before the page number: "The Salvage Garage - Above 1200 Sq/FT | Page 292 | The Garage Journal."

Thanks!

Dumb question.

When you login, it automatically checks the keep you logged in box. Is that...uh...permanent. No big deal if it is. Just asking.

that's your browser doing the auto check thing... not the site... But you can still log off. Do this:

Yeah, I figured the examples you had given had been altered in some way in the new format because I remembered it being a pretty substantial character savings. Nevertheless, the 30K limit will help things out a lot because the last time I updated the index post, I was limited to 10K.

Its time to start updating now that we are in our new home!

Will do, thanks. (y) The pressure must be easing a bit after the forum change if you are actively soliciting more work. :D

HAHAHA... I'm in a very strange place mentally at the moment. No sleep, breaking down, but relief... an urge to get away from the computer, but too much guilt to do so...

Well, I think its time to get some sleep knowing you have done a great job here. The forum seems to be running fine and the rest of the tweaks can get worked in as time allows.

Can you add page control to the top of the page on mobile view instead of just the bottom? Kind of a pain sometimes to have to scroll to the bottom to change.

Screenshot_20210525-211432_Samsung Internet.jpg
Something else I've noticed regarding pages- if you are reading a thread on a page other than 1 in a subforum and you get to the bottom of the last page of the thread, when you click on the subforum name at the bottom it takes you back to the top of page 1 instead of the page where the thread you were reading lives. Is this a bug, or a feature? Is there something else I should be doing to get to the correct page? Samsung Galaxy 9+, Chrome.

Almost forgot...LOVE the mobile view. Goodbye, Tapacrap. The desktop on my monitor is better since I adjusted the zoom. I had a hard time reading at 100%. I actually went above 100 and found it quite nice. Thanks for all of the effort, Ryan!

One more thing that is a little annoying. Whenever you have an unopened notification after you click the bell to clear the number on top when you hit the back arrow that number flashes up there really quickly then goes away. Nothing major just a little annoying because it makes me think I got a new notification when I didn’t. I’m on an iPhone with the Safari browser if that is the problem I’m not sure.

Ryan,

Hope you are getting some sleep.

I am posting up a few Amazon deals this morning and the links are not working for some folks.

Thanks, Bruce

"New Posts" vs "What's New" - what is the difference between this as I get different results?

Which one is the "all the recent activity since I hit mark all threads read when I last left"?

Ryan, my apologies for scattering my previous comments in some of the other 'feedback' threads. I didn't see this thread until now.

I just had a few photos rotate 90* to the left in orientation when I attached them. I hadn't encountered that before. When I deleted them, reduced them in size from ~3000 x ~4000 to 450 x 600, and re-attached them, it fixed it. Seems like maybe because they were so large the system didn't know if they were 'portrait' or 'landscape'?

"New Posts" are unread posts, "Whats New" is what is recently posted including read and unread posts. I think “what’s new” was a bad choice of words.

Pics from a phone? Sometimes phones have issues with the Meta data and portrait vs landscape.

Ive thoroughly tested the site in that regard and it hasn’t failed yet.

Yessir, phone. I was surprised myself, as I have been posting like a madman and attaching lots of pics with NO issues. Woke up this morning, responded to a notice that I had a reply, and saw that the photo was twisted. Checked a few others, and they were too. So I fixed them all.

EDIT: If it happens again I will preserve it instead of fixing it.

This maybe one here> https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/your-vehicle-photographed-with-a.481432/#post-9098337
But note if you click on it, it will open correctly.
