Ryan, this is a weird one, but when I post, I tend to break up my thoughts with a space between them so I don’t confuse people. When I hit the enter button twice to get that space, my phone kicks off the automatic capital letter for the first word. I catches me off guard and I have to go back and fix it a lot. Is there something on your end that can fix this or is it just my phone? I have an iPhone.

this is where it stops the capital automatically, I don’t remember that happening anywhere else.

I haven't seen a request for it, is it possible to show the sub forum on the new post list. I liked that from the previous version of the site.

Question

How does Ignore work? I never used it on the old system. When I click on "Ignoring" in my profile, it just gives me a long open bar that says, "You are currently not ignoring anyone." I don't see a place to enter a username. And what is the effect? Once I figure out how to use it, are all the posts belonging to that username simply not shown to me? They would just be skipped in my view of a thread? And what if that person is the thread starter? Would I not see the whole thread?

Suggestion

Would it be possible to add a function to permanently "Ignore" ("Hide"?) entire threads from view in a forum? Like the opposite of "Watching" threads, if you think about it. There are many threads I am never going to read. Sometimes several of them are active at the same time. Before, when we could see 20 or so threads in a forum on page 1 without scrolling, it wasn't so bad. You could just scan past the few you had no interest in, and it didn't take up much space on Page 1. Now they can clog up Page 1 in a hurry. If we could permanently "Hide" or "Ignore" threads from view, it would make the experience more efficient, effectively reducing the size of the forum to only Watched threads and new threads, until one decides to either Watch them, Hide them, or just let them ride.

I’ve noticed weirdness with this too. Works fine on android, but iOS seems inconsistent.

‘I can’t use ignore features due to my job… damnit… but I will mess with it a bit and see what’s up.

Ignore means you won’t see any notifications from someone and if they post in a thread you are viewing and you have them on ignore it will have the regular spot with their name then you can click over the box if you want to see what they wrote even though they are on ignore. So it just won’t show up if you were scrolling through or anything and also if they quote or reply to a thread you are watching you won’t see it unless you go to the thread and click the post but you will not get a notification. 🙂. Hopefully that helps it was hard for me to explain.

Ryan,

Small item I’ve noticed when replying to a thread, if I hit return to double the space between paragraphs to make it easy to read I have to manually hit the Capital key. In the old format it always made it a Capital in a new paragraph.

like this

Like this with Capital key used. ( or whatever it’s called )

Ryan, is there a way to add “jump to new” into the drop down box? It is getting to the point where I am not even updating my own thread because it is cumbersome on my phone unless someone else has posted to my thread. I appreciate all your hard work, I just miss the elegance that tapatalk had when it came to posting and uploading images. There are lots of things that are nicer than tapatalk for sure, but most of them don’t matter as much as being able to easily post or upload and caption multiple images in one post.

Unless tapatalk used some sort of physic interface to pick the perfect picture and automatically post it for you, I don't see how it could possibly have been easier than posting pictures on this forum.

Hopefully we get the iPhone spam sorted out soon. You fixed the calendar spam and I appreciate that I just haven’t wanted to bother you Ryan with the other spam that I sent you a few days ago. It is still popping up and then you have to close the whole browser and reopen it.

So you didn’t use tapatalk to post pictures, clearly. It isn’t just about posting, it is formatting them and adding descriptions or captions. On a phone this version is not easy to do this. Try posting a few pictures and adding captions under each of the images.

No I was just talking about posting the pics. So much better than it was with the old format.

Without knowing how it worked in tapatalk you have no idea how different it was. Now it is only a pain if you want to post multiple pictures and add captions. One picture at a time is almost easier, but I used to post up to 9 at a time and now it is not good. Posting one at a time takes a lot more time and is cumbersome.

New bug in mobile:

If you click into the multi quote management tool (not sure what else to call it) and then back to the post you loose the ability to type in the reply box.

Just did it to me, and I just confirmed it by trying to edit my post.

Jump to new has been working sporadically.

Opening that thread takes me to the OP, even though I have a post a few replies down, and had read to page 4. Clicking jump to new has no effect.

Have seen it elsewhere but remembered to grab the link this time.

Ryan, this is still an issue.

I flagged it on page 1, and it seemed like it got better after a few days (the cache issue). However it still randomly occurs.

The link below opened to the OP, and as I was reading the first 2 posts I bumped the back key.

When I clicked back in it took me to a post from today, and it occurred to me I had already been through most of the thread a while back.

And I think another bug related to my post above.

I wrote some of the post, then pasted the link. I could not enter down or otherwise create text below my link. Here is a screenshot.

Seems like it has something to do with the inline links (and images I think).

Slow Loading of pages. It takes a long time to load pages. Most of the time when I am trying to scroll down it will pause for several minutes. In the lower left status line it usually shows waiting for some type of "lick add". How can I stop this from happening?

Update : status in lower left corner is "waiting for securepubads.g.doubleclick..net..."

Same thing happened to me. Back button greyed out and only exit after the redirect is to close browser on iPhone

Thanks for sorting the eye strain issues with the font. I know it was sorted a while ago, but wanted to show some appreciation for listening and working it out. (y)

So everyone else who has always used the "Ignore" function may already know this..., but I answered my own question above.

I just discovered that if you ignore someone, not only do you not see their posts in someone else's thread, you don't see any of their threads if they're the thread starter/OP! Their threads are just not in your view of the forum list. I know that most GJ'ers probably ignore GJ'ers for other reasons (oil and water, someone just pissed them off or rubs them the wrong way etc), but this happens to be VERY advantageous with respect to my suggestion for controlling/personalizing your forum list.

Let's say, for example, there's someone who posts exclusively about XYZ on the Vintage Board, and he has eight (8) different XYZ related threads that he often seems to update at the same time, and those threads often stack up on Page 1, crowding everything else out. If you have ZERO interest in XYZ, and you ignore him, those threads will not show up on your Page 1!

The reason why it would be necessary and helpful, in my opinion, to be able to ignore/hide specific threads, is most GJ'ers are more diverse. They may have a few threads you have no interest in that always seem to clog up Page 1, but they may have a few threads you like, so you wouldn't want to ignore the user, just specific threads.

I’ve got no real plans right now to add functionality around the ignore list. But, I do plan to start keeping track of how many people ignore specific users in an attempt to further weed out those that continually cause drama, politics, etc…

OK... so no easy way to do that... BUT, have you noticed that the main nav does stick... and all you have to do is roll over "forums" tab and all that pops down:

This is better to me... Because on mobile, you don't want yet another layer of nav causing you to scroll more to get to the content.

It does stick in horizontal mode on an iPad but in vertical mode it doesn’t. You can still click on the three little lines and get the same result it’s just a different way of having to do it depending on how you’re holding the iPad. If the toolbar just remained it would be more convenient but not that big of a deal.

I just created a script that does this... creates a list of users that are being ignored, how many people are ignoring them, and by who...

Pretty interesting to see that the same people that cause me problems are the same people being ignored by the most people. I'm going to use this as a ban bar of sorts for those guys that can't seem to avoid drama and politics.
