OK... image upload file restrictions have now been lifted to 20,000KB... That's more than twice the size of our old limitation in VB.

Any way to make the background of the posts more grey or something like that. Similar to the old GJ, made it less obvious that I was surfing at work. Not that we get in trouble but you know....

I'm trying to avoid the readability issue... According to veer, this makes the most people, the most happy... dark gray/light black over white...

Hey guys... To report a bug or make a suggestion, please reply to this post.

Thanks!
Hi Ryan, graphic designer here. The font is uncomfortable to read because it is a condensed font (or a condensed variant of a normally-proportioned font.) Will we eventually have the option to choose another font for reading? Also the default size is geriatically large. If a more readable font was chosen the point size could be reduced, increasing comfortability and also viewable text on screen.

The USA disagrees with you Comrade!!!!

:)

But yeah, I will have that feature available once I get everything stable.

Thanks for all your work Ryan, I think it has a lot of promise!

I will pile on with the font -- the current font and line spacing is very difficult to read. A more common sans serif with tighter leading would be much easier on the eyes. I know you're on the Festool Owners Group forums -- I believe they are Xenforo and much more readable IMO if you're looking for some inspiration!

One other thing -- all my Garage Journal-hosted pics seem to be dead

I appreciate your commitment to making this an awesome site!

First things, thanks for taking the plunge and modernizing. I have tried posting pics to a thread, that works much better and I like being able to size them, etc. Good stuff.

I hate to pile on and maybe I am late to the party on this, but with regards to the font, especially when composing a post, it felt like the kerning made it almost unreadable. Is that something that can be tweaked with either another font or something? My only real gripe so far.

Example of the spacing that is, at least for me, making it unreadable at times:

bad_kerning.JPG

Hope I'm not the only one?

That’s not the font I see...

The free parking forum should be the only place you see an ad up there. Can you take a screen shot?
Fixed. If anyone else using Firefox has this issue, logging out and clearing cookies should resolve the problem.

Just a side note, when i first logged on, the site defaulted to full screen, which was huge and uncomfortable to view. Using Firefox's option bar, I was able to reduce it to 100% and its much more user friendly now.

repost to get it in the correct thread

"Every time that I go to a main forum (general discussion, free parking etc.) I get an "authentication required" table to fill in user name and password even though I am logged on. If I just hit cancel it goes away until I go to a main forum again. If I fill it out and hit OK it goes away then comes back again.
Am I the only one or is this a bug to be fixed?"

You are not the only one. I had this complaint earlier... It's out of my pay grade, so I passed it to a smarter developer.

If you clear your cache, maybe log off and back on, you will see that I changed the font in response to complaints.

For the list:
I never subscribed to any threads, when coming back from a day or two away, I would simply go to my statistics to find threads I had posted on recently. Right now it lists them by most recent post by anyone, rather than me. This means threads I've not posted in for (literally) 6 or 7 years are ahead of threads I posted in 2 days ago.

Otherwise Firefox is rendering things just fine for me, Thanks!

I hate to pile on (another graphic designer here), but the interstate system typeface was made for squeezing short bits of info into a tight space, never meant for paragraph copy, which has no reason to be so condensed. A sentence reads like a series of exit signs.

The friendliest typeface is the system default... iOS users are used to SF, Android Roboto(?), Windows Segoe... and they stay maintained. The stack would look like:

font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol";

Or just use something basic like Open Sans or Helvetica. If you're a history buff, Vignelli used it on nearly everything, including the NY Subway and the National Park Service.

Quick question Ryan.

I'm guessing with XF, if a user does not have an avatar, they get a colored circle with a capital initial of their username ? AKA alphabet polka-dot.

Me and you have huge typography taste differences. :)

Can you make it so that by default we are not notified for every little thing under the sun. I had to go turn off pretty much all the dumb alerts.

You are the only one that can control how and when you get notified... Go here:

From there, you can control what you are watching/being notified by....

somebody already asked this, but I haven't yet figured out how the new "quote" function works. (usually I manually type in the
text
there's a two-step process required to look at new posts in a thread?
as with the other person who already asked, when I click "new" (in the red box at the end of the thread title) and then "jump to new", it takes me back to mid-April.

respectfully, I appreciate your efforts and what you've done with the website, but the gray font on white background is killing my eyes.
be back in a couple days. I can't do this with this font/background.

I have no plans on changing the colors. I will be doing a dark theme later down the road though.

As for a two-step process? No, it's a single click. You are going back to mid April because of the rebuild. Once you get back in and start viewing, it will catch up...

Maybe its a placebo from everything being new but I feel like the scale of the new format, or something, is giving me eye strain. Trying out 75% adjusted scale to see if that helps. 2560x1440. Despite having a large monitor quite a bit of real-estate was lost at stock zoom as well due to the scaling. I can only fit about 3 posts before scrolling. 4 if they're one line posts. 1 post if it has an image. Kind of a bummer.

This is a preference thing and one we tested for a couple of months... Frankly, condensed vs. expanded was a close one... I like it how it is (obviously) but might play with this once we get stable.

Hi Ryan — Thanks for all the good work. Looks like it will be nice after some tweaking.
Two things I used to be able to do —

1) Set my own personal choice for posts per page. I had it set at 40.
2) Hide all avatar pictures. I really appreciated having this option.

Thank you for all you do!

Both are smart features... and I should have both. I will add them to the list.

I’m fine with having an ad at the top of the page but it covers the back button on the top so I have to scroll all the way to the bottom to go back to the section I was in. I know you are busy so hopefully that issue will be fixed soon. Thanks.

Looks like we can't reply to our own threads in the classifieds, ie can't reply to bump them.
