Sorry... I'm trying not to work this weekend after doing a month straight of weekends... Wife is getting a little annoyed. As such, my question answering has lagged.

Anyway, I plan to revisit the editing thing later... It's a big hard question because we've had SO MANY issues in the past with it. Turning it off solves all of them, but annoys a few...

As for the bump rule. Hell yeah. That is coming... Perhaps today!

Excellent. I was always annoyed with how many people either feigned ignorance or blatantly flaunted the bump rules. Some people just won't play fair until you make them.

This is now done and running... but not tested very well...

We will see how she goes!

Awesomesauce™. Thank you sir!

The invite makes perfect sense.

Lets say you are having a private conversation and you ask Bob a question.

Bob answers, "Hell, I don't know... I think Bill does!"

So you can invite Bill into your private conversation and y'all can figure that **** out...
That sounds good. So, if I've got this right, if I don't click either box the message is only accessible by the recipient and me, yes?

with XF is it possible to enforce the 72-hour bump rules in the classifieds now? That would be sweet.

We will see how she goes!

I'm still not able to bump my classifieds thread, still says I have insufficient privileges to post a reply.

Or is it possibly cause it was created before the switch to XF? If that's the case do I just go ahead & create a new thread?

I asked about this before in this thread but not sure if there was a reply. I didn't see anything. Thanks

I perfectly understand the various reasons to have a time limit for editing in discussion areas but what happens with the Classifieds now? We can no longer edit the original post to mark items sold or drop in price. Is it possible to eliminate the edit time limit just for the Classifieds? Also we can no longer reply to our own Classified threads to bump them or add items, etc.

I don't sell much here but I do have one item up right now that I haven't bumped in a while. Found this out when I tried to do that.

EDIT: Oops, didn't see your post about trying to take the weekend off. Hope you have a good & restful one!

What are profile posts? There seems to be a list of them underneath the new posts page.

Click on your profile or anyone else's to see them. Kind of like private messages but not private & are only seen in one's profile. In your settings you can restrict who can post in your profile, ie members only or no one.

Amen. It would also be nice if members edited their original classified post to report an item was sold rather than bump their thread with a new post to do it.

Can't expect miracles, though. 😆

I just wrote some code... and had it down for a bit...

Here's how the classifieds works now:

1. You can post an ad/wanted ad.
2. No one can reply to that ad. Instead, they have to send a private convo...
3. Every 72 hours, you are allowed to reply to your ad to bump it to the top.

Tested and working well...

One more plea for editing ability in case it was missed in the high volume of posts here. OK, I am piling on. Sort of. I do feel it is a legit ask. Perhaps on a case by case basis, although that might inundate you and the mods with a grotesque amount of new traffic...

I'm halfway through updating the broken picture links in my build thread and would like to be able to finish that task.

If it's not possible, so be it.

Thanks for the font change. Forums look good to me and I'm learning the new functionality easily enough. If a crotchety old curmudgeon like me can do it, so can some of those who've been waxing poetically about the previous gen.

MacBook Pro running Mojave 10.14.6 and an Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 1536 MB. Looks & functions great in Chrome and FireFox.

Thank you!

so how long Do y’all need for editing rights? I can’t do infinite… at least not right now.

As much as I would love an infinite edit period of the ability to delete posts, I understand the negatives that overweight the positives since I help out on another forum.

I think what you have it set to now is a good compromise, 48 or 72 hrs, I forget? But as long as it's a couple of days that's good IMO.

There's an add on that allows Staff to grant the poster a new temporary time change limit for a single post. With this add-on users could then ask a Staff member to change the limit when needed. But of course add-ons cost money & it's more work for the Staff.

Is a week reasonable? As a thread goes on and gets longer and longer, it's nice to be able to add details to the first post to avoid getting the same or irrelevant responses

Here is a picture of how the the general forum looks on my circa 2013 1440 x 900 Macbook Air screen.
Screen Shot 2021-05-23 at 5.53.27 PM.png

I do note that I cannot see any "content" after opening the page. It would be nice if some fit in, somehow.
That said, I understand wanting things bigger for older eyes and I know I'm using an older resolution screen. But even a standard 1080p screen isn't much bigger vertically...

yeah man. I’m designing way past 1440x900. Honestly, mobile is most important these days.

Yeah… I guess I’m too artsy man… I like what I like. You know?

At the end of the day, if I don’t enjoy what I’m looking at I’m not gonna be very good at what I’m doing.

No problem at all! I just thought I'd show you what I see. You probably have done lots of testing, but a couple user samples never hurts.
It is a common enough issue for me that I actually run one of my office monitor pair in portrait mode, so I get 1920 vertical. To me that looks "right":

Ryan,

Please excuse my fellow member from Tennessee .

Any change is tough and sometimes the best you can hope for is to annoy everyone equally. We'll adapt eventually.

I appreciate your efforts and the quick response you're giving issues!

More commentary: I find being able to see more threads more "inviting", especially on busier forums. There is a greater chance I will see something I want to click on.
Again, it is SO improved from earlier, I'm personally thrilled. I was really tired, as a tapatalk hater, of browsing the old vB desktop site on my cell.
Hurray, hurrah, hooray! and thanks for all the work!

My standard browsing is to open all the threads I'm interested in in different tabs and then go through them.

Sometimes, as I scroll through the posts, I lose track of what thread I'm in.

Is it possible to have the thread title locked at the top of the screen or repeat as a header to the posts?

So much for you not working this weekend.................

It would be nice if the 'Home' key took us to the top?
Is that something you have control over?

Seems like there may be some sort of search engine indexing problem? I tried to search for something I posted in a thread (it's a pretty long thread) & the search won't find any of my search criteria from what it seems anything before the date of the XF upgrade? It won't even find posts made by me. Will just say no results found. I think that indexing process takes a long time?

Using Google will always work better than any built in search engine.

Just enter your search terms then site:garagejournal.com

Seriously? 48 hour edit time is not good for my Table of Contents post. I edited that and many other posts often. I needed to make updates due to the migration.
I would very much like the ability as well to edit my ASYLUM build thread. I'm constantly updating the Index and hyperlinks within the first few replies. And I have also added links throughout my entire story to make it easier for the readers to jump around in the thread, if they are following a particular project I'm working on. These projects aren't done in 48 hours, it may be years before they are finished. It would be great if I could continue to update replies when needed, weeks, months or even years later. Thanks.

I just cleared my cookies on my iPad and tried again. On new threads with only one page, it will bring me to the first post. On new threads with multiple pages, it does not bring me to the first post.

Does the same thing on my laptop.

Weird man... I'm not sure about that one. I've heard some guys complaining of that, but typically it's a cache thing and once you get caught up in the thread, the problem no longer exists.
