A very sincere thanks to Vicegrip from me as well. The garage was outstanding. A true professional setup. It was great to meet you guys and hope to host one at my place in the near future.

Centreville here with 25' x 26' attached 2-car suburbia garage. Building house and detached 36' x 28' garage near Kilmarnock, VA now. Garage is contracted to Conestoga Buildings (pole construction). Expect them to start drilling holes for poles this Wednesday.

V-Grip - Thanks for sharing your garage with us and the cool drink. You have one cool shop!! Regret I had to leave early, but I had to get back to put another coat of polyurethane onto my son's loft - between yesterday and today we got three coats on it in time for him to take down to VA Tech on Monday (a lot of work but it looks great, besides the Mrs. said it was a good bonding experience for us).

fxdlryan - Something you said yesterday really hit home with me - your reference to being away from family or those friends that you can call upon to help out with a project, especially when extra hands are needed. With the passing of my Father-in-law this past year your comment helped me realize the void I now have. He was always great for an extra pair of hands. But in his later years he mostly just provided me with someone to bounce ideas off or just plain moral support. In other words he was a good "garage buddy."

Sure my wife has tried to set up "play dates" with the husbands of her friends, but they just don't like the same things I do and we end up having a lot of those awkward moments of trying to find some common ground to talk about. On the other hand the kind of guys that likes to hang out in a garage is different, at least for me. I could have spent all afternoon swapping stories, talking shop, and learning new things. Maybe that is what makes this site so attractive.

But back to your comment, you're right having the comfort of a support network of guys that you can call upon is maybe something this thread can do for us NOVA garage guys - take the place of family and friends that can lend a helping hand. So with that said, don't ever hesitate to shout out when you need something from the VA Garage Gang. I plan to.

Good points R1chy!!! Having a helping hand on a complex project is truely invaluable. I'm sorry you lost your "garage buddy". Those moments are irreplaceable. I'm also sorry I had to leave early and didn't get a chance to meet many of you guys. "Honey Do" lists are the death of me on weekends.

That said, I'm up for another meet anytime and am willing to host. My place doesn't compare to Vicegrip's, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of things to talk about. So let me suggest that we regroup and start planning the next meet.

Guess I was too late finding this post. Brian from Gainesville (soon to be Gainesville) here. The wife and I are moving into our first house at the end of September. It's got a small 19x19 two car attached, which I have BIIIIG plans for! I've been a lurker for some time but this is my first post. Would love to meet some of my fellow cohorts, and get some ideas from the seasoned vets.

My beloved Vette awaits it's new home.

This is a Conestoga Building package which includes the roof. I had them extend the roof overhang on the gable ends from 12" standard to 18".

Conestoga also has an option to install insulation under the metal roof which I chose. For $1700 on a 36 x 28 building I thought it was a decent value.

Gee let me guess, you have a Porsche? I spent 2 years begging the powers that be to revive the monthly magazine and when they do they get a world class pro editor and photographer working together. I held a learn to weld GTG at the home shop that spun up from a local wrench BBS and the editor and photographer, who are friends of mine, joined in too. At the weld GTG I was asked if I would be in a "meet the club member" article and I reluctantly said OK as it would not look too good to say no after 2 years of grousing. Bear in mind that this feature used to be a 1/2 page 3/4 way through the magazine not the cover and 3 color pages. Little did I know...Trust me the Vicegrip show is o-v-e-r. V-Grip - Yup I'm a PCA member, but only to run my brother's Porsches at DE events when ever I can get a chance. So I get copies of the local PCA mag's and saw you in them.

I was jaw dropping impressed when I saw your garage this past summer during our VA Garage Gang GTG, but was even more impressed to learn from the articles that you frequently share your talents with others. I only wish I could have attended the welding GTG - one of those skills I hope to learn at some point.

I hear ya on the modesty aspect, but I think you deserve the praise the articles bestowed upon you for helping others.

Well, it's been a while since the last NOVA GTG. The days are getting cooler and the temps are just about right for hangin' outside for a few hours. How about we have another GTG? Although my shop is a far cry from "Vicegrip's" stellar setup, I'll be glad to host this one.

So what do you NoVA guys think? the next two-three weekends sound like a good idea?

I'm currently in a 19'x20' garage that doesn't give me much room for working. I'm looking at installing a 4 post lift so I can fit the vehicles, but it's going to be tight.

Any recommendations for garage door companies that can do high lift modifications?

Thanks for stopping by today guys. It was a perfect day for a GTG; just to sit outside, enjoy the sun and talk cars and garages. Absolutely wonderful!

We also had the opportunity to see the great contrast between the best of what modern technology has to offer -- in the Ferrari, and the classic Chevrolet inspired minimalist styling that is so appealing to many "old schoolers". Both are great cars!

Thanks for hosting the GTG! It was great to see some fellow garage people. and talk cars.

Goodfellow's garage setup (actually two garages) was pretty cool, and packed with machine tools to boot. I like to see garages where real work is being done, and this setup definitely qualifies.

Pretty wide range of cars as well, from a Ferrari 355 to a VW, with a 67 Chevy to boot.

I'd be happy to host the next GTG at the Garagenous Zone when the new project finally arrives.

GFellow - Had a great time, wish I could have stayed longer. Your setup looks great and I'm envious of your project Jag!!

I was really impressed that your Sun Diag included settings for a '37 Buick, I checked those that I could recall and they cooresponded with my shop manual. That is a "keeper" for sure, don't ever let anyone talk you out of it!!!

BTW - After sitting in some "leaf peeper" traffic I was able to make it out to Shenandoah in time to get the beast winterized and tucked back into the barn before dark.
