newb here...recently picked this up from an aquaintence...previous owner was in his 70's...he stated his dad brought it home from work many years ago as he worked in a service station. What I was told..father brought it home from am Amoco station he worked at. Believes father used a different motor than one it originally had. Father built the "case". Air tank was in attic of his garage, tank was from an old vehicle lift from a service station. I didn't get the tank (house was being demo'd/not enough time...) ..eventually plan on getting it hooked up.....looks like its a Kellogg 321?...any way to tell age of motor or pump?

motor

thanks---

Hi, I've brought this working compressor unit and found out on the net that it could be a Sears/Craftsman and that's about it.

Does anyone know the age and info about them. Here's some numbers that is on the compressor and the air filter fits on the back. (I'm currently looking for one)

* DD 35 39
* 99 38
* 4.2000
* 42476

Thanks

Picked up this one a few days ago.
Haven't had a chance to check it out properly.
7.5hp 3 phase and about 125 litre tank.

I have quietly collected a few of these old compressors and sprayers - One of my favorites is this old roebuck compressor on a cart that appears to be original. Looks similar to the one in the pic recently listed by JvvMusme. Has a slide on the side to change PSI that just slips the belt... Was used to fill tires on a car lot in Chicago for a long time according to the owner..

Can anyone help me out with this compressor and its specs? Id like to know cfm and if it can handle a 5 horse motor, or if that would even help with CFM?

I have a Curtis C 90 with a five horse on it. It will work fine. As for CMF... I don't know, my pump only turns 400 rpm, so probably not very high CFM. It is very quiet, and I like that more than performance.

That's the main reason I wanted it was for how quiet these old ones are. How do you figure RPM?

Take the ratio of the or percentage of the motor pulley versus the pump pulley. Then divide the motor rpm (1750) by that ratio.

See post 259 in this thread for my compressor.

I would hydro test that tank before you use it.

Hey guys,
I'm on a roll here. I had earlier posted difficulties with what I think I have (Quincy compressor). In my shed I have another older version compressor which is marked 'DevilBiss'. There don't seem to be any other markings on the motor, however I suspect it's a 220 series. It's mounted on a recent pressure tank and I'm betting does not have a lot of compression as it sits. I'll try to post pics and if any one has any comments as to viability of using this beast please let me know.
Thx,
Bob

IHMO, you will never see an old tank "explode". You will have leaks for a long time that start being bigger leaks to the point that you stop using the compressor before it explodes. The tank will rot out and begin to leak from the most rotted area a little at a time as the rot gets worse and worse.

I had one like this. It was a 5 HP industrial compressor. I have no idea what make. I got it for $300 with a slight pinhole leak on the bottom of the tank. For about 20 years I had it leaking either slightly or not at all because rust would plug the leak. It also had a rod knock on start up for 20 years. It was the best compressor I ever had but when the motor blew considering the tank condition and the rod knock it was time to dump it. :sad:

Sorry these are the only pictures I have of it.

Yes, it's a two stage. Looks like an old Chinook pump. See if it has Made in Italy stamped on it anywhere.

You can rebuild these but they are only a 1hp pump, so don't expect a lot of air. Very well built unit though. Old school tough.

I agree - Chinook pumps are sold here by ABAC/American IMC and used on Belaire and Rolair compressors). I think that only some 'legacy' pumps such as the T39 which are still in production have parts available.

A friend purchased parts for his from this place - the guy who runs it is very knowledgeable and could identify the pump from your picture (as well as telling you if parts are still available):

Hello I'm new to the forum and wanting to identify an old compressor I recently picked up. It is an old two stage Sears and roebuck compressor model 102b.321 the stamp on the tank is from 1950. I believe it looks like an old Kellogg compressor but not sure. When I go Sears parts direct the model number is not there. Any ideas on circa, cfm, etc? I have attack photos of before and after my resto.

Front view and last picture. Any help identifying the compressor would be great. Not very tech savy, I could have probably shrinked file size of the pictures but the this was faster and easier.

Hef - nice job restoring that old compressor - it looks great. There's nothing like those old ones for running quiet and almost forever.

Yep Kellog ...I just fired up it's twin that is sitting in my barn today...have had it like 5 years , and finally just got it wired into my phase converter today. It is amazing how quiet it is, for a 5 hp compressor. I got a pretty good deal on it when I bought it ...350 bucks..was gonna buy a new,homeowner compressor for 500 , and this one fell in my lap, glad it did...now all I need to do is get some isolation pads under the feet, and install some black pipe to plumb it through the shop!

Here are a couple of compressors I pulled out of an abandoned butchers chiller.

Those are refrigeration compressors. IDK how they'll perform as air compressors, but I'd keep the condensers and use them as a cooler in between the compressors and your storage tanks.

I just acquired this old compressor. The tank is a 1956 40 gallon. The model plate says Sears C-102. The pump has a plate with 055 on it. I'd like to know what the pump is. I've read Devilbiss made the pumps for Sears compressors. It runs fine but I found about 400ml of oil in the tank when I drained it. It builds pressure slowly. Took 10 minutes to make 90psi. The guy I got it off of ran it without an air filter. I think it needs a rebuild and I'd like to figure out what I have and get parts. Can anyone help?

99% sure it's a Brunner. The head is a little smoother than usual, but it might be a later model. Heck, it might even be a home-brew cylinder head by a talented DIY'er.They did put out quite a slew of different pumps. Dunham Bush HVAC equipment used Brunner pumps.

This was most definitely not made for Sears. Keep that little metal tag, it's the only hope you have of obtaining the correct parts, if it is the original complete pump model number tag. There is a company called Atmosphair in Markham, Ontario that sells Brunner stuff. I also seem to recall a place called brunnerparts.

Thanks Mac. It seems I'm going to have a hard time getting parts for this thing. I could run it and add oil now and again, but I don't want to have compressor oil going into my air tools. I'll keep looking. Thanks for your help.

If you have the time, you could carefully remove the head to see what it looks like inside - there may be a lot of carbon deposits, and who knows, you may be able to drop the piston down a bit in the cylinder and pour in some Kreen or other solvent and free up the rings (if they are stuck and not just worn down).

Also cleaning up the valves and reinstalling the head (with gasket sealant as needed), who knows, you may bring it back to life. But it sounds more like a conversation piece/antique than a daily driver to me.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to figure out what make model of this 2 stage compressor. I've had it for about 15 years know and I got it from a state trooper here in Michigan. It has a 2 groove drive pulley with a 18 inch 6 spoke diameter. Looks like a number on one of the spokes reads 21213. Stands 18 inches tall and 8 x 12 in body width. The trooper put the whole unit together and had no idea on the make when I bought it from him. It works but struggles on one belt and I would like to swap out the motor pulley to a 2 grove. Its run on a 5hp single phase motor but do feel it takes to long to fill up the 80 gallon tank. 3450 is the motor rpm. Thanks for any of your help you can provide. Chad

Hey Guys,
Just picked up this old girl this afternoon. Dont know much about it except that it runs, and I think its an Ingersoll Rand. Anyone ever seen one of these before? I plan on repainting it, putting a new on-off switch (although not sure what kind but the guy before me has it rigged up with a light switch!) and maybe changing the air out put plumbing. The only thing I could find on the actual unit was a date plate of 1947 and what appears to be a fadded Ingersoll Rand logo on the top of the tank. Havn't had time to clean it up and inspect further yet.

Thanks in advance for any insight you could provide!

Billy

thanks. I should contact Pelton and Crane. Where are you in NC? I have relatives in the Greensboro area.

to date, I have replaced the motor w a 1/2 hp, jumped around the pressure switch and it slowly raised the pressure to 60psi, the limit to my gauge. I took apart the intake air filter. 3 layers of about 1/4 " thick oiled felt, interlayer with an oiled paper. there is a washer reducing the size of the air flow from about 1 1/4 " to about 3/8".

I think the next step is to pull the head on the pump and take a look.

Thanks,

Bernie

I have a compressor that I just purchased, anyone knows that specifications have?, how many hp was the motor, how many rpm to spin?.

Please help, I'm trying to put back together it

I am posting the images
Thank you.

Hello
I'm new to this site and hope someone can help me out with some information on a compressor I purchased recently.
The compressor is a Champion 2 stage, 80 gallon, Tank is stamped 1966 as a build year I believe, and without a motor serial # 175124 Model # TUV55-80. I'm looking to purchase a motor for this and try to get it in usable condition, but Champion or Gardner Denver doesn't want to supply the info and send me to a business for service.
If anyone has one of these or could direct me to where I can find out what the required horsepower, RPM's and the pulley size on the motor are it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance
