I recently picked up a couple of nice vintage S-K items at the Tahoe flea market. First item is an almost complete S-K Lectrolite combination set in the original roll and the other is a partial 3/8" drive set in the box. If anyone has an extra 7/16" S-K Lectrolite combo wrench, I'm looking for one to complete the set.

Got a small bag of 1/4" drive sockets at the flea today and these two were in there. I remember seeing S-K chrome sockets before and these look similar. Anyone know if I'm on the right track?

I think they are None Better which was a brand of New Britain.
Edit, just looked at some of my stuff, not sure if they are none better or new britain. But they have the NB in the circle mark.

You're right. They were in a bag with a couple later New Britain sockets and a few mustang sockets as well. If I remember correctly those are new Britain made too. Thanks for the help.

None Better was a brand name owned by New Britain. Same sockets, different sticker on the box. The NB logo worked for branding both.

Hmm, the knurling must be what I'm thinking of. My CRS syndrome has been really bad lately, my apologies.
No worries I should through my SK stuff again. I have 2 margrine jugs full of SK chrome sockets. I will get them out for a group shot. And I have a rare set that I have only ever seen 1 of.

A local industrial tool store has been blowing out these NOS 1/4" metric deep sets for the last few months. I bought one when I went to my mom's, about a week ago.

They are $22 NOS in the shrink wrap and hammer tone holder at Kitts Industrial on 8 Mile.

They say $39 on the Kitts website, but they had a listing on Craigslist for $22. I do not know if they ship. Google Kitts Industrial Tools.

I think that you might have to go there to get the $22 price.

Here are some rare sockets. I have only ever seen these once and with all the sk floating around here they must be pretty rare. Anyone have some 1/2 8 point knurled bases? I didn't even see them in my catalogs.34b5d5e6bfcca5d9d8009640e4883c58.jpg7ca9aaa8c856a7b7b74be89de10d5f61.jpg

I have a couple of those 8pt sockets in the 1/4" drive size.
Here's the entirety of my pre-war SK Chrome sockets.
one 1/2" drive SK Chrome
6 generic 1/4" drive SK marked only Chrome Alloy. Two 12pt, two 8pt, and 2 6pt

I only have one 1/4" S-K Chrome socket, but I don't look for them since they are pre WW2. I saw an S-K toolbox on eBay that looked ideal for the S-K tools that I've been picking up lately. Here are some pictures of the new box and the items that I am going to try to fit in it.

It came to me like that so I don't know for sure. I assume at some point it had a kit installed since it works like new. It may be a wartime finish like Japanning. It's pretty tough and doesn't seem to chip.

Hmmm... If mine were wood, it would be 'highly figured'. it might have been in a fire, on a boat, or both. Needed a clean and grease, works like new, and Ive been using it a lot.
It looks kind of messed up, but the knurling is in good shape.

Now to see if I can upload today.

Edit; nope

I found a bunch more sockets to add to my new S-K box including a 1/2" drive S-K Chrome (which isn't chrome). Several are S-K Wayne.

You do know that the SK Chrome sockets have chromium in the steel, right? They're not chrome plated, but they are made of metal that contains chrome.

My 1/4" drive S-K Chrome socket is plated and the other examples posted upthread are all chrome plated as well. During WW2 Chrome and other alloys used in the making of steel were restricted so tools that previously were plated had plain steel finishes or other substitutes. I was surprised to see a S-K Chrome socket which I had assumed to be prewar apparently not plated.

Having a zip code puts it after 1963

And since I can post pics again, my recenly mentioned 1/2 drive and a 1/4 I just found at the bottom of a yard sale box.
It was dead stuck, but works as new with a little wd40 and excercise. By the patent its older than the 1/2 yet steangly has 60 teeth compared to 48 or 50 of its bog brother.

Thanks for posting those. I would assume from the lack of plating that those were both made during WW2. They were much more sophisticated than most other contemporary ratchets, in my opinion.

Picked this set up at a barn sale the other day. I did nothing but wipe with a rag.

Some old knurled band sockets in really great shape... Metal box is beat up quite a bit though...

Bought a Facom era NOS SK socket set today at a local industrial tool store.

I have slowly been buying NOS SK in the green metal boxes...

I've been going the opposite direction, continuing my quest to put together correct old sets. Here is the 1/4" drive set I just added a plain finish ratchet to.

About when was the transfer in the lid updated to the metal label?
It should be the transition from the stamping of "SK Chrome" vs just SK on the knurled base sockets.
