I am not sure what the tab is for. I have a few of those and some of them are bent down flat.

Now you just need some of these. The crossbars are very hard to find.

As I recall, I found adverts in newspapers for Western Giant socket sets as late as July, 1945. I suppose they could have been left-overs but it was in Western Auto store adverts.

I've only done a tiny bit of searching for Western Auto tool advertising so it's not surprising I came up short. Are you aware of any catalogs featuring tools exclusively, or are all their ads generalized?

Got this unmarked beavertail with another set.
Nice find. It is marked with Chrome Alloy which is a line of socket sets that appear to be be pre SK
3/8 drive is hard to come by that far back.

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrenches

Don't believe so. That would be 1970s era if I am not mistaken.

I have one 3/8” socket shown on the right side of the picture below. I think that the Brazil sets were made at the same time as S-K branded tools, sold as a private label or price line. Other than the Chrome Alloy marking it looks exactly like any other early S-K socket.

Can anyone give me info on the “G” marking? Is it military like the Snap-On “G” marking is? Thank you in advance.

I believe that Mick is correct about the Wayne purchase being the demise of Lectrolite marked tools in 1962, although S-K Wayne wrenches continued to be made in the former Lectrolite factory. The G marking is likely just a casting mark with no particular significance just like the U on the pictured combo wrench.

I understood that the Lectrolite brand went away in the SK Wayne era, so no Lectrolite branded tools would have been produced after 1962. This is what AA says, anyway.

http://alloy-artifacts.org/lectrolite-corp.html

Until we figure out their date coding, we can never be sure. I find so many Lectrolite wrenches that I've stopped picking them up. It's hard for me to believe that they are all pre-1962, but surely that's possible.

Here are the S-K and S-K Wayne tools I found at an El Cerrito, CA estate sale yesterday. I think the box is early S-K but the decal is mostly missing.

This has become more of an addiction. But here is my one of store displays with all the sockets including the very hard to find ford and Buick sockets.

And here is a close up of the ford v118 socket and a 21/32 and 31/32 hard to find sockets
935f2b7532ea24b583f92408f340c3b0.jpg

Sorry to bump such and old one, but can someone please tell me more about that v118 ford socket? I have had a 4V118 (more modern, no knurling) for close to 20 years, NOS from a parts store I worked in.... We quit carrying S-K, and I found this under a shelving unit not long after that. Nobody else at work could tell me anything about it, and the boss told me I could keep it. It's never been on a ratchet, even has whats left of a price sticker, and I've never had a clue what the hell it was for. Do tell, guys....

early Ford (V8) connecting rod socket.

half a dozen of them listed on Ebay right now -$29.95 and up.

Indestro equivalent was a 618X

Indestro 618X 1.2 dr 9.16 Ford V8 connecting rod socket - 1972 Indestro catalog pp 13.jpg

didn't sell worth a damn in the 1970s.

See post #868 and up for a discussion about those sockets.

Thank you for the quick turnaround on this question! It was always just weird enough that I have kept it with my specialty sockets, even though I never actually use it. $29.95 you say? Maybe I don't need it THAT badly.....

That seems a little high but a NOS may fetch it. I think I have about a half dozen myself and at least 1 from knurled, Wayne, and dresser era.

I would posit that $29.95 for that unit is wishful thinking. Far too many Ebay sellers believe that simply because a tool is old or has a limited application it's worth a ton of money.
I see crazy asking prices on oddball Ebay all the time on items which have very limited applications in the real world, like a special socket for connecting rod nuts on an early flathead V8 Ford.

3/8 drive set.

I was so focused on the nice condition of the tools that I failed to notice the inside of the box was touched up. I like the socket rack in this type box.

3/8 swivel set

Been in my box a long time and could use a little cleaning up. Thought about getting rid of them because I use other brands and never these, but just couldn’t do it.

They came from a master chest just like lzenglish posted in post #1 of this thread. The sellers wanted too much for the whole box at the time.

WWII meets 2018 upgrade

I recently bought a 15 inch 40170 for $10 at a garage sale and got the DT100 upgrade for it. I have been so impressed with it I bought an old 42470 on ebay that appears to be a well worn black oxide model I was shocked how great the teeth are in for its age. It might be sacrilegious in this thread but this oldie also got the 100 click treatment but know that I took my other short 1/2 drive ratchets (proto and craftsman) out of my box so this old girl is now my primary short-handle fixed-head 1/2" drive ratchet. I really wish I could continue to use the original switch as the machining marks are awesome. Note there what looks like more of an 86 cast where the C-clip is.....any info on that?
