Athol No 1, 1-9/16" wide jaws, opens to 2", has the quick set nut and screw, has a stop on the screw. This appears to be different from the No 1 Kevin posted back on page 5.

454, thanks for posting your vise. I have a #1 too with the Nov 14 1871 Pat date with the quick set Dynamic but my jaws are 1-7/16 wide. maybe I will mark them with 1-1/2 jaw width.
I made a mistake when posting the first # 1, when ever you see a screw under the Static support then that means the 1/2 nut is bolted in place. The one I posted earlier is a quick release to. Note how the text is different on the one listed. I believe ours are older.

Strange, the seller of mine listed it as 1-5/8" jaws, I measured to keep the info here as accurate as possible, definitely 1-9/16". Makes you wonder how many different No. 1 vises they made, especially when you add in your earlier 1" model.

Thanks Tink, recorded, adding the weight and measuring the square slider from the backside of the Static to the end is a safe max opening dimension if you have time. Appreciate your help.

Dunlap 5230. 3-1/2" jaws that opens to 4-1/2" Weights 17lbs. Missing the Metal Former pins and Dies.

The Dunlap 5230 vise was part of the Sears Dunlap Metal Forming Tool No. 9-05230. It was the Sears version of the Swayne Robinson Metl Former.

The MetlFormer used multiple variations of the vise. The final one had a hole in the anvil to fit a drill press attachment - total of seven holes, here and there.

The real mystery is who made the Metl Former and 5230 and Dunlap 5344 vises - Swayne Robinson or someone else?

I'm not positive, but the maker of that last vise might've commonly known of as ridgid rather than ridge. All of my pipe wrenches that were made by the ridge tool company say ridgid on them.

Dunlap 5230. 3-1/2" jaws that opens to 4-1/2" Weights 17lbs. Might have been altered by adding two tapped holes and one precision hole in the Dynamic.

Tool, that is what I thought after posting that vise and we can only assume. I will be keeping my eye out on another Dunlap 5230 and see if they had the hardware like your collection. Very nice vise you have, you did not mention the model number of yours. Thanks for the note.

I just noticed that this Metal Former has the same model number as the Dunlap 5230. This Swayne, Robinson & Co. vise sure looks like the Dunlaps, sure there is a connection there.

Prentiss 256/266 Says old model 518 which is a swivel base model. 6" jaws that open to over 9". Weights 125lbs.

Reed 109, 9" jaws, these were custom made. 9" jaws opens to 13". Vise weights over 290lbs.

Reed 314 Swivel Jaw Coachmakers Vise? 4" jaws opens to 8" and weights 48lbs. This one has serrated jaws so is that a Coachmakers vise Filers vise or just a machinist vise.
