that's a C for combination.

interesting fact, the fixed model will have the same 31C casting numbers on it, but manufacture stock/part/catalog number will be 131c for fixed and 31c for swivel.. :headscrat same with the consecutive higher models

Kevin,

As promised, please find the vises I spoke with you about listed below:

Ware Patent Vise - Maker Unknown

**EDIT** I believe I found the original maker of this vise:

Utica-Ware-Yoke-vise.jpg

No markings of any kind:

IMG-20181012-195728.jpg

IMG-20181012-194545.jpg

IMG-6213.jpg

Weight:
IMG-20181012-195635.jpg

Note - Weight of the board is negligible

Jaw Width:
IMG-20181012-194834.jpg

Max Opening:
Option 1- This is where the jaws won't open any more due to the distortion in the square tubing from the u-bend - it's right at 5 1/2" so I tend to think that was by design

IMG-20181012-194643.jpg

Option 2-

IMG-20181012-194818.jpg

+ 1/2" where the vise won't fully close yet:

Weight:

Jaw Width:

IMG-20181012-194213.jpg

Max Opening:
Note - I can't get it open fully right now, so am going to go by the standard length-of-exposed-drawbar technique

English vise "vice" - Unknown Make

Unique feature - "British Make" on side of dynamic jaw.

Pretty sure this one is NOS and/or has never actually been mounted or used.

Note - Faint "Made in England" stamping on static jaw tower:

Weight:

IMG-20181012-202438.jpg

Jaw Width:

IMG-20181012-193807.jpg

Max Opening:

Option 1 - Distance where I think a standard user would routinely use - dynamic jaw is still firmly mounted

IMG-20181012-193934.jpg

Option 2 - Drawbar extension method:

Max Opening:

This one is hard because of the art deco design of this vise, so I just opened it to where the end of the main screw was just at the rear end of the main nut. If you want me to measure it in a different way just let me know.

Sawyer Tool Co. "Oswego" homeowner's vise:

IMG-20181011-190728.jpg

IMG-20181011-190744.jpg

Weight:

Currently unknown - my scale won't measure that low, will try to find another way to measure it and will update. I'd guess around 7lbs. Currently missing a swivel base as well, which I intend to correct with another from a different homeowner's vise.

Jaw Width:

IMG-20181012-193455.jpg

Max Opening:

Option 1: End of drawbar in line with end of vise main body - still very sturdy, not loose at all

IMG-20181012-193655.jpg

Option 2:

It looks there are already photos of others I have a 4.5 Jap craftsman 391, a Starrett 923, a Reed 403, Columbian 03 1/2, and a Littlestown 140 with pipe jaws :)

Is that yours Kevin?

No va, I really have no time to collect vises lately. These vises mostly come from Facebook, there is a couple vise groups on Facebook that has some pretty interesting vises. I have been working on vises, getting them restored and back to work, I'll show those on the Big Vise Thread.

Thanks Mayer for the Portugal vise.

Try the link in the bottom of any one of Kevin's posts, I just clicked on the one right above your post, worked fine.

There isn't a link in his signature when viewing Garage Journal on my phone w/ Tapatalk. I haven't been on GJ on a PC in months.

I do not own a cell phone and can not try it out. I I think I am the only one left in the usa that does not own a Cell Phone) The Spreadsheet is created on Google Doc's. Maybe that is the issue.

No problem Kevin. I'll log in on my PC at some point and peruse the spreadsheet.

By the way, don't count not having a cell phone as a disability. Now we know how you find so much time to work on churning out your awesome vise jaws and vise restorations. In all reality, if I spent as much time working on my vises as I do looking for vises and surfing GJ.......well you get the idea!

Not my vise, I saw these pics and noticed this model is not on the spreadsheet. Record model 100, with 4" jaws shown on the 2nd pic.

Interesting that it is "made in England", but has the open slots for the hold down bolts. So much for the theory that open slot were made in China.
