Have I ever mentioned how much I love power tools?

I started to pull the flat head screws from the deck with a ratchet which was going to take some time. Then I remembered I had an air ratchet. Still took some time but not nearly as much. Before I could remove the screws, I had to dig out the old sealer with a pick. I lent the trailer to a friend who aslo very kindly put some sealer on the deck but flooded the Torx sockets with it. I wish that sealer stuck to the wood as good as it stuck to the screws. Sheeesh!

BTW, I have started to fix the links to the pictures that disappeared earlier in my thread thanks to Photophukit. This will take some time but I will get this done.

Hi Mac, you're right, the pictures don't do it justice. Here's a few that might prove otherwise. BTW, when the temps warm up, these boards will buckle and warp like crazy; a lot more than what you see now.

have you had any more thought about the boot prop? is there some way you could get a short bonnet prop? the small ones that are usually mounted to the back of the bonnet, and fit it to your boot? then it could latch, and fold down and clip in line with the rear of the boot somewhere?

maybe a cantilever or torsion system (similar to 280z hood) may work out as well.

The ones on the 260z are so stiff, the long bonnet is pretty heavy, and i feel like my bonnet wants to bend in half when i try and lower it down.

I have put the boot prop on the back burner for now. I think I have an idea which would need to be machined on the lathe and the mill. Darn!

The trailer is coming along, slowly. I have to travel to California for a few days next week then I will get back to it next weekend.

Time seems to be at a premium these days.

So I got a little more work done on the trailer this past weekend.

Here I test fit a new plank next to the old ****. While I had the new plank in there, it happened to rain the next day. I went out to see and the new plank looked like I had waxed it. The water beaded up quite well. At least I did that right, I think. We'll see come summer.

The new length and drilled holes matched up very well. Now that we have a system, time to remove the rest of the old planks and cut them up for kindling. Some of that wood fell apart in my hands and surprisingly, some were still solid. Weird.

So here we are with the deck removed.

Time to clean it out, sand, prime and paint.

You can’t stop with color matching you need to rout a v notch on the boards for aesthetics and drainage as well as add some E-Track and then a custom storage container up front and maybe a winch....

OK, time for another update.

This weekend was the time to get the trailer painted. So I removed all things used with adhesive (reflectors, danger don't do this labels, etc) sanded the thing down with my DA sander and primed the bare metal spots. My lovely wife and I then proceeded to lay down the color (two coats); which in this case is Rustoleum Regal Red gloss.

For a roller and brush job, I think it turned out pretty good. The roller left a powder coat-like finish.


Now I'm going to let it set for a week so the paint will harden before I set the decking.

On Friday I scored quite a bit of kit for the Bridgeport.

A 12" (30.5cm) rotary table. That thing is H E A V Y! I will be refurbishing this.


In the background you can see another clamp set I got as well.


I also scored a Quill Master adapter for the mill. Back in the day, we used these with small ball cutters to pick out deep corners in steel, among other things.





I also scored a bunch of carbide end mills, assorted taps and dies, carbide cutter inserts and other miscellaneous do-dads.



All of this stuff was headed for the scrap dealer. Cost to me $0.00.

Hi Todd. My wife and I really work well together. Her only problem is she has this knack for coming up with too many options for doing things.

She will have laid out, for arguments sake, three options for painting the trailer. Just as I am about to commit to one, she then says, "well we could do 'this'." At that point I look at her and say, "will you ever stop?" And of course her answer is "no" and comes up with yet another option.

I'm surprised I haven't started twitching. I still love her to death!
